It's what Man With The Golden Gun film should have been really. It's kind of mad that it wasn't about an assassination.

Yes, and I remember someone here (possibly yourself?) mentioning this before and it's hard to refute that this would have ultimately made for a better film. I think the problem with TMWTGG as a film is that it starts off being about Bond being seemingly pursued by Scaramanga, the most dangerous assassin in the world but ends up being about the Solex Agitator MacGuffin. The two seemingly disparate elements of the plot coalesce around the figure of Scaramanga. No doubt the lack of focus in the film is due to the source novel where the threats to the sugar industry in Jamaica etc. were merely discussed by the Hood's Congress and not fully acted upon. It was all rather low-stakes and passive rather than active.

If there's one film which could bear a remake it's that one: Scaramanga is a pretty unique and memorable villain and he's totally thrown away in that plot.

I agree. Scaramanga deserves another run out in a better film.

    Forever Hold Your Peace

The plot would involve a wedding somehow.

EDIT: Don't anybody suggest "Forever Hold Your Piece"

I do really like that one, but the MWTGG line does undermine it quite a lot! :D

I'm not aware of the line.

I'm sure you are, if you think about it. It's one of the most quotable lines in the film.

Ah right. This is not a film I revisit often.

I don't blame you for that. I've not seen it for ages myself and the last time I was about to watch it on Blu-ray I had a power cut! 🙃

    Official Secret Actions.

A play on the Official Secrets Act. It came to me the other day while out for a walk. It might be a bit corny, though.

Shock to the System is quite Flemingesque I think. It's rather like the style of title he used to use. Sounds a bit like the US Perma Books retitled Fleming Bond novels You Asked For It (Casino Royale) and Too Hot to Handle (Moonraker) too.

    STATE OF THE FLAG

Sort of ''Wall'' from Writings On The Wall and The Mask symbol. When in Dutch ''Hoe hangt de vlag erbij ?'' (How hangs the flag ?) is just ask ''How do you do?'' in difficult time or after a long time you haven't seen somebody.

Asking For It is also kinda good, though a little unbalanced for some reason. Too Hot To Handle is good but maybe not for Moonraker imo.

It's got a nice nihilist vibe to it, is the right sort of visual 'shape', and it sounds a bit saucy too. Very Bond! :) Nice work @SecretAgentMan⁰⁰⁷

Thanks guys! I was actually chatting with my cousin and in the chat I was explaining myself, when I said "I was standing next to nothing". So the title came to my mind from there :)

These two come from villain organisation names in the John Gardner Bond continuation novels, namely Scorpius and COLD:

The Meek Ones (The Society of the Meek Ones seems a bit too long).

Children of the Last Days (COLD acronym).

I particularly like the second one, it's mysterious and ominous sounding.

Actually, I like Scorpius, no matter how unlikely they are to use a continuation title. Rather ties in nicely with all past scorpion references.

Yes, and it's one of Gardner’s best Bond novels in my opinion, quite prescient in its focus on suicide bombers and brainwashed religious extremists. It might be too close to the bone though in that respect as Eon wisely try to steer clear of political topics for the most part.

Yes, it's certainly a good one to follow after NTTD.
