Just purchased two of director Robert Bressons films. 'Pickpocket' and 'A Man Escaped' on a recommendation from a friend!

An excellent pickup @R1s1ngs0n. Criterion is having one of their 24-hour "flash sale" as I type this.

Excellent choice! Such an incredible film.

I'm always ultra broke when these flash sales and B&N 50% off sales happen. Maybe one day.

I’ve always thought that the reason why NIGHT OF THE HUNTER flopped upon its’ 1955 release was that audiences didn’t really know what to make of the film since it has so many elements. Part film noir, part children’s fairytale turned nightmare, it is brilliantly surreal in places (i.e., the children’s boat ride, among others). And who can forget the image of Willa Harper (Shelley Winters) drowned; her hair flowing like some abstract painting. Chills man, chills!

Feel free to add any thoughts over at the NOIR thread.
Question: who would win in a fight between Mathilde’s “Dou Dou” and Pearl Harper’s doll? 😊

Yes, my favourite shot in the film!
Mitchum is absolutely terrifying in this film! A crying shame, Director Charles Laughton was so dismayed at the reception of the film, he never directed again!

Chilling through and through, and as you say, a very curious and unique combination of elements, genres and styles. It's perfect. The children sailing down the river as Pearl sings Once Upon a Time There Was a Pretty Fly is incredibly hypnotic. Wonderful usage of music in the film.

And those reused/unused bits from Morricone's work on The Thing are wonderfully atmospheric.

It is. I liked the first one, but not sure I want more of that.

Yeah, one seems like enough but what do I know.

I wonder if people had a similar sentiment in 1962... "I heard that Doctor No is getting a sequel? I think maybe one was enough..." ;)

    Sequels are overrated.

PS: But to stick to the subject, "The latest movie I bought" is "Le Trio Infernal", starring Romy Schneider and Michel Piccoli. Still, I haven't watched it yet. But I'm looking forward to it.
