Robert brownjohn deserves wider recognition for his work. I think it was the right idea to go with this version of FRWL in the opening rather than Matt Munro's version. The way it breaks into the bond theme and then reverts to FRWL horn blasts is great.

I'm in New Zealand - around 3 in the afternoon here. You're in the US?

Kronsteen is one of my favourite henchman villains. He does very little but this opening in the chess match is brilliant. Says so much with no words.

The matte painting roof is great and the shot of Kronsteen walking out is grand,

My favourite representation of Blofeld (along with TB). The unseen Blofeld is so strong.

My first Bond movie at the cinema was TLD - seen everyone on the big screen after that. Would love to have seen TSWLM on the big screen. Bet that was an experience!

I'm with you on that, by far. I'd follow with Telly.

Agreed! Telly grew on me to be my favourite on screen one as well.

What's impressive is how imposing Klebb is on everyone else. She commands respect, yet she is clearly shaken whenever talking to Blofeld.

Daniella Bianchi has a sweet naïveté about her. She seems quite confident in her scene with Klebb though. Love Grant peering around the corner as she arrives to see Klebb.

    Have you read the novel?

Yes I have - it's actually my favourite bond novel too. I read the novels in the 80s but I didn't know the novel order so I read them in movie order. It meant FRWL was my second 007 novel. Have you read all the books?

Tatiana is very pretty, no doubt, but I find her to be the least sexy/attractive of '60s Bond Girls.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one! ;-)

I do like the Sylvia Trench call back. "Last time you said that you went to Jamaica!" And the way she claps her hands lightly together looking pleased with herself when Bond says on the phone 'I'll be there in an hour. Make that an hour and a half."

Several times. I was asking because the Klebb/Tatiana scene is a bit more intense in the novel.

Yes Fleming really paints an ugly picture of Klebb in that scene! She's quite repulsive and lecherous. i prefer lenya's subtely.

I'm always reminded of the James Bonding podcast talking about Q's hand size when he's giving the case to Bond. The start of the gadget trend in 007 films.

I love Connery seeing the photo of Tatiana and saying "well I don't have much on at the moment."

I think Kerim will always be my favorite Bond ally. Armendariz has such a great report with Connery

Grant racks up a decent kill count in this film.

He's pretty ruthless. It's so good how he's always there in the background.

Has anyone done a kill count by villain to see the most effective henchman or villain?

I looooove when Bond checks for bugs in his hotel room. Was LALD the last time that he did this? Would love a return to some of those subtleties, even if it was like Craig checking the train carriage he and Madeline was in.

The old bug reader placed under the phone! Quite a chunky device.

Like the shot of the dead Bulgarian as his head drops out.

Beautiful shot of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque I believe it is.

We need to use "Back to the salt mines" more in our daily conversation...

Dream Bond location for me, definitely in my top 5 of must visits that I haven't been to. This scene underground in the canoe through the underground canals is so cool.
