come on - it has the best line ever "His name is Jaws, and he kills people." lol.
Yes, that is a very good line and Roger delivers it without missing a beat.

honestly I don't mind it - In a film full of outlandish moments i find the least annoying, because it could be worse, like the Venice gondola chase sequence.
I actually don't think that chase gets awful until Bond's boat turns into a hovercraft lol...but yes, once he is driving around on land, I'm usually looking outside my TV screen until the scene is over.

  • You Only Live Twice
    - Ken Adam's amazing sense of design is showcased again in this film. Osato's office and Blofelds apartment just oozes good taste.
    - Helga Brandt. Although her idea of freeing 007, to just try and kill him again is very confusing, she has a great presence on screen. "Mr Osato believes in a healthy chest" is a classic Bond line.
    - Japan. Almost a character in its own right, not many other locations have made such an impact in the Bond films.

    Diamonds Are Forever
    - Shirley Bassey and John Barry are both in top form.
    ... I can't think of much else.

The Man With The Golden Gun
    - Christopher Lee as Scaramanga! What perfect casting.
    - Miss Anders, poor Maud getting killed off like that, at least she got to make a come back a few years later.
    - Roger Moore's slightly darker nature.

    Moonraker
    - Ken Adam again. He is sorely missed after this film.
    - Holly Goodhead makes a very competent ally for Bond.
    - The free-falling sequence is just amazing!

    Die Another Day
    - Miranda Frost is the best thing about the film.
    - Opening titles by Daniel Kleinman.

    18. Octopussy
    - Orlov reveals his plans to the Presidium and later to Bond
    - Bond's final fight with Mishka and Grishka
    - Bond's first encounter with Octopussy

    19. Diamonds Are Forever

    - Elevator fight with Franks
    - Mountaineering outside the Whyte House and finding Blofeld
    - Bond meets Tiffany

    20. The World Is Not Enough

    - PTS (best in Brosnan's tenure)
    - Any scene with Bond and Elektra- great chemistry
    - Elektra taunting M at the Maiden's Tower

    21. Moonraker

    - Death Of Corrine
    - Centrifuge scene
    - Bond spying in the Drax castle

    22. Die Another Day

    - Opening credits and torture scene
    - Bond smoking cigars with Falco
    - Sword fight

  • If I was to include OP in this, a film I genuinely enjoy for the most part, I would most certainly pick the chase through the streets with Bond and Kamal's men, 'thank god for hard currency' , ' get off my bed', and 'you'd better stick this back yourself' etc , that was a really fun and energetic sequence and genuinely amusing

I don't hate Moonraker, it's just so damn absurd and inplausible every time I see it, but there is a lot of fun to be had, suppose I went with, the g-force simulator, teaser in the sky, and M and Frederick Gray with 007 when they visit the labs in Venice only to find Drax has moved it all out and they come in with gas masks and look awkward

actually - i recently just rewatched Moonraker - and i noticed something really annoying that didn't catch my attention until now... almost every chase scene or fight is ruined by the ending... i'm not saying that the scenes themselves are bad - but when they decide to end it, it's like they threw in a dumb joke or humor - like they had no clue how to properly end it... for example...

    - the PTS..... it's great - never understood what biting Bond's leg would've done, unless Jaw's teeth are now coated in venom - but nevertheless, it's good... but when Jaws starts flapping his arms like a buffoon, it takes a great moment, and turns it into silly nonsense.

    - the boat chase in Venice... actually was a fun little chase, typical Bond stuff - but turning the boat into a hovercraft? double taking pigeon, curious dog, guy getting drink spilled on him.. really?

    - the cable car fight with Jaws, another decent sequence (save for Goodhead's mannequin acting lol).. but how does this one end? - Jaws falling in love.

    - the boat chase down the amazon... another great chase sequence - ended by Jaws yanking the wheel too hard, and again - looking like a big dumb idiot as he goes sailing over the falls..

i dont know - just something i picked up on,,,

Actually, I think you're pretty spot on. Apart from me finding all of the cable car fight rubbish, I can for sure agree with that trend in Moonraker.
  • Moonraker was probably, at the time, the boldest move EON made in terms of story - I mean, imagine the world's most famous agent in space, in a whole new universe. I think that Albert probably saw this as a different and fun film - almost as if he's trying to make this less mature and action but more dramatic and high-end visually. That was why there was such a break in character with Jaws and the overall plot - He didn't care if it was unreasonable or outlandish - he just wanted to try to portray the excitement of space in general.

Moonraker came out as it did - to cash in on the success of Star Wars, which opened the door of possibilities with it's amazing special effects - EON and Cubby sought to take advantage of this, and decided to push FYEO to the back burner and do MR instead...

i cannot comment on what the critics of the time said about the film - whether it got praise, or got panned - i do not know - and not sure if that had anything to do with the drastic change in tone between MR and FYEO... all i know is that it made A LOT of money, and was the record holder for a good number of years...

... but so did DAD, so - whatever lol

I love both scenes, they're great but many think the Tanker chase with it's action and stunts tops the lot.

MR - the PTS sky dive, the cable car fight with Jaws.
Oh, man, you like that fight??? I'm embarrassed every time I watch it; that fight scene is so bizarre to me (not in a good way) :-))

Let me get this right? You liked that cable car fight ? I agree with the previous post that scene was so corney looking and the blue screen so fake. At least the PTS was a REAL STUNT and performed by REAL MEN

Sorry, Sam, just noticed this, so shall now respond...

My problem with the tanker chase - and, to some extent, LTK in general - is that it lacks the glamour and real cinematic Bond x-factor that so many of the other climaxes do. It's a well orchestrated sequence, but feels, like the rest of the film, it should be in an '80s American action movie - it's like something out of a violent, early draft of the script for Convoy... ;)

DAD: Sword fight scene, Q scene (just ignore the invisible car), Frost is OK.
QoS: Matthis (before he dies), Camille
Spectre: Scenes in L'Americain, Mr White scene, first half of the whole crater scene
DAF: Everything in Amsterdam is great
    TND: Kaufmann scene
MR: PTS, flight to the space station (the music is so good)

    QoS

The plane chase is pretty good, especially when you know the aircraft technical-info behind it.
(This is well worth reading; https://www.quora.com/In-Quantum-of-Solace-during-the-plane-chase-scene-what-exactly-does-Bond-do-to-foil-the-fighter-jet)

The ending scene is by far the best moment in the film. I particularly like the music that plays after Bond says, "I never left."

Barry Nelson getting his toenails pulled out in CLIMAX: Casino Royale was pretty cool.
David Niven meeting the Frankenstein Monster ( a pre-Darth Vader Dave Prowse) was cool in the 67 CR.

I'll admit this..........even though it's a bit embarrassing. This is for members' eyes only- need to know basis............

I actually really LIKE the gunbarrel in Die Another Day. The bullet is, meh, a bit cheesy, but Arnold's score makes up for it. It's the only time in the Brosnan films the Bond theme here sounded triumphant and confident. John Barry of the Connery eras would be proud.

Least favourite Bond film is QoS.

Best part is the witty interplay between Bond, M and Tanner. I also like following Leiter and moustache guy in their escapades around the world.

    Die another day

It is a tie between the sword fight and the Q scene.

I would describe LTK as "strong coffee". Some people don't like strong coffee.

Fair point. Bond does though.....he likes very black coffee. LTK is a strong Flemingesque entry. I love it.

After years of Moore's type of Bond film, I don't think the cinema audience was ready
For the Fleming inspired, harder edged Dalton. ...... But I loved it.
( I also love the Moore Bonds, as well)

I can never resist arguing this point, about audiences not being ready for a harder edged Bond.

I remember quite clearly that every fan was ready for a harder edged Bond, and desperate for Moore to retire (much loved he was, but by 1985 much much much too old). We so wanted a serious Bond film. I was delighted with TLD, it was perfect. An exciting Bond film, a genuinely touching relationship with the leading lady, and without a trace of stupid humour. Terrific!

However when the dust settled there were questions about Dalton's ability to carry a big budget film. Then LTK came along, and there were serious issues. Getting rid of silly jokes is one thing, but getting rid of humour altogether is quite another thing. And Dalton still seemed to lack charisma.

As such, it was good to get the series away from being a bit 'nudge nudge wink wink', but it was important that you could relax and enjoy the films. TLD did it well enough, LTK simply didn't.

However, the tanker chase was a corker, and is one of my favourite sequences in any Bond film.

I can agree with many of your points but really do think it was an amalgamation of
Several elements, which led to it's lack of success. A crap marketing campaign,
Going up a certification, all helped to get less money coming in.
Incidentally I find many bits of humour in LTK, very cruel yes, but in keeping with
    The books.
Much as I love Dalton as Bond I do concede, that for whatever reason, the public didn't
Warm to him. Then again following Moore would have been tough for anyone.

I agree with some of that, the certificate didn't help. There is humour of course, Robert Davi has some moments, and of course M features more than usual. It does lack truly witty and memorable dialogue however.

My least favorite Bond film, QoS, features one of my favorite Bond Moments, ironically.
It's the exchange between Fields and Bond about the Hotel rooms "Shoot me, i rather stay in the morgue" & "We are teachers on sabbatical, and we just won the Lottery."

SF: The cinematography (nothing more needs to be said), the 'Skyfall' track is top notch (as is the 'Skyfall' theme song by Adele), the acting is great, Silva's speech is phenomenal, it's hard to get cooler than Bond tearing open a train, jumping in, and adjusting his cufflinks, and while it sounds like something a young teenager would love, there's something I really like about hearing M cuss (the only time the f-word is used in the series) while she awaits Silva's arrival at Skyfall: that one line perfectly sums up the culmination of all of her actions and decisions throughout the whole movie.
