@LeonardPine, just put the @ in front of the username and it sends a ping notification to the person when the message is posted. I'm assuming that's what you're asking.

We have some overlaps, and of course some great disagreements. I go back to '62.

The list could have looked quite different. For nearly every year there are at least a couple others that could have made it.

    Years (since my birth in 1991) that I really enjoy the film @Birdleson picked: 1991, 1992, 1994, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 (Batman Begins), 2006, 2008 (both), 2015.
  • I'm a big fan of many of your favorite films, @Birdleson: Night of the Living Dead, Annie Hall, Apocalypse Now, Raiders, Blade Runner, Grave of the Fireflies, The Remains of the Day, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Batman Begins. And think very highly of many more: The Wild Bunch, Jaws, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, Fargo, Unbreakable, City of God, In Bruges, several more. Yet you persist in maintaining that The Empire Strikes Back debuted in 1983! Or do you just not want to publicly admit your admiration for Return of the Jedi? ;)

And yes, 2007 was an astonishingly poor year for film. I might put No Country For Old Men, Eastern Promises or even the delightful and very easily palatable Ratatouille there myself, but Lust Caution is a very solid choice, too. I recall when the gorgeous Tang Wei was rumored for a part in Skyfall. Surely she must have auditioned for Severine before it was decided to go for more of a Eurasian-looking actress who could be made to look either European or Asian at the right moments to appease China with respect to the character's brutal death.
  • And yes, 2007 was an astonishingly poor year for film.

LoL I actually had to go back to page 1 just to see what I even wrote for 2007.
    Freaking Rob Zombie's Halloween! :-\"

Not a bad horror movie, but if that was the best I could come up with 2007 must have been lackluster!
My favorites from 2007 include There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, Zodiac, I Am Legend, Stardust, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Bob Ford. Not too bad.

I had trouble with 2004.... what a dire year.
But that year's 'The assasination of Richard Nixon' with the ever spellbinding Sean Penn remains one of the most overlooked & underrated films from the previous decade...

A year ago I did this already but here it goes again.

As a principle I cannot compare movies like, for example, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List (both 1993) the entertainment movie would always win as it has more re-watchability I guess.
So I decided to list two movies from some point on.

1974 Agatha Christie's Murder On The Orient Express
    1975 Funny Lady
    1976 Logan's Run
    1977 Star Wars
    1978 The Wild Geese
    1979 Moonraker
    1980 Shining
1981 Raiders Of The Lost Ark
1982 Star Trek The Wrath Of Khan
    1983 Octopussy

1984 Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
    1985 The Goonies
    1986 Aliens
    1987 The Living Daylights
1988 Die Hard / Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
1989 Batman / Driving Miss Daisy
    1990 Die Hard 2 / Edward Scissorhands
1991 Star Trek The Undiscovered Country / Fried Green Tomatoes
    1992 Disney's Aladdin / Howard's End
1993 Jurassic Parc / Remains Of The Day

1994 Clear And Present Danger / Four Weddings And A Funeral
1995 GoldenEye / The Englishmen Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain
1996 Star Trek First Contact / Evita
1997 Tomorrow Never Dies / Fierce Creatures
1998 Ronin / Saving Private Ryan
1999 Sleepy Hollow / The Sixth Sense
2000 Pitch Black / Erin Brockovich
2001 The Royal Tenenbaums / Y tu mamá también
2002 Star Wars II: Attack Of The Clones
2003 Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King / Love Actually

2004 Shaun Of The Dead / The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
2005 Batman Begins / Brokeback Mountain
2006 Casino Royale / Flags Of Our Fathers
    2007 300 / Death At A Funeral
    2008 Twilight / Gran Torino
2009 Star Trek / The Lovely Bones
    2010 Tron Legacy / The King's Speech
2011 Captain America / The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
2012 Prometheus / Life Of Pi
2013 Star Trek Into Darkness / The Butler

2014 Guardians Of The Galaxy / The Water Diviner
    2015 Spectre / Creed

    2016:
    Star Trek Beyond
, as a die hard Trekkie I have no choice, because the film is simply awesome.
But other than Trek, it would be ROGUE ONE or FANTASTIC BEASTS or CIVIL WAR, one of those it will be, but it's just too early to tell as I have seen them only once.

This is no fun for me as I only go as far back as the late nineties and most of my favourite films were released between 1930 and 1993. I'll give it a go at some point as it will take some thinking over, but I'm thinking of doing a list of my favourite film of each year since the dawn of cinema (it's debatable what that starting part is, but I'm sure we can come to an agreement).

My favorite pre-1930's film is the Edison footage of the sneeze, full-stop. Classic cinema.
