Hey friends, I'm just quickly back for this fantafabulistic thread. Well done @Master_Dahark

As a principle I cannot compare movies like, for example, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List (both 1993) the entertainment movie would always win as it has more re-watchability I guess.

So I decided to list two movies from some point on. And of course there would be more, some years like 1995 were simply incredible.

Sorry for stepping out of line with this, but that's me :))

1974 Agatha Christie's Murder On The Orient Express
    1975 Funny Lady
    1976 Logan's Run
    1977 Star Wars
    1978 The Wild Geese
    1979 Moonraker
    1980 Shining
1981 Raiders Of The Lost Ark
1982 Star Trek The Wrath Of Khan
    1983 Octopussy

1984 Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
    1985 The Goonies
    1986 Aliens
    1987 The Living Daylights
1988 Die Hard / Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
1989 Batman / Driving Miss Daisy
    1990 Die Hard 2 / Edward Scissorhands
1991 Star Trek The Undiscovered Country / Fried Green Tomatoes
    1992 Disney's Aladdin / Howard's End
1993 Jurassic Parc / Remains Of The Day

1994 Clear And Present Danger / Four Weddings And A Funeral
1995 GoldenEye / The Englishmen Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain
1996 Star Trek First Contact / Evita
1997 Tomorrow Never Dies / As Good As It Gets
1998 Ronin / Saving Private Ryan
1999 Matrix / The Sixth Sense
2000 Pitch Black / Erin Brockovich
2001 Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring / The Royal Tenenbaums
2002 Star Wars II: Attack Of The Clones
2003 Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King / Love Actually

2004 Shaun Of The Dead / The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
2005 Batman Begins / Brokeback Mountain
2006 Casino Royale / Flags Of Our Fathers
    2007 300 / Death At A Funeral
    2008 Twilight / Gran Torino
2009 Star Trek / The Lovely Bones
    2010 Tron Legacy / The King's Speech
2011 Captain America / The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
2012 Prometheus / Life Of Pi

1989 Batman / Driving Miss Daisy

Bloody hell this was tough. Not necessarily the best movie in any given year but rather favourites that I've watched again and again. Some years I just couldn't choose only one, while others it was a struggle to pick a worthy contender (e.g. mid/late 80's)

And I decided on a 'No Bond' rule as difficult for me to gauge my love of all things Bond against other films :P

1966: A Man For All Seasons/Funeral in Berlin
    1967: Bonnie and Clyde
    1968: 2001/Planet of the Apes
1969: The Italian Job/Army of Shadows

    1970: Performance/Le Cercle Rouge
    1971: Get Carter/A Clockwork Orange
    1972: The Godfather
    1973: Westworld
    1974: The Godfather (Part II)
1975: Barry Lyndon/Jaws/The Man Who Would Be King
1976: The Man Who Fell to Earth
1977: Close Encounters of the Third Kind
    1978: Halloween
    1979: Alien/Apocalypse Now

    1980: The Shining
1981: Raiders of the Lost Ark
    1982: Bladerunner/The Thing
1983: The Dead Zone (this year was a struggle!)
    1984: The Terminator (another stinker!)
    1985: Brazil
    1986: Manhunter
    1987: Robocop/Withnail & I
1988: Mississippi Burning (at a push, slim pickings again)
1989: Field of Dreams/Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

    1990: Goodfellas
    1991: Silence of the Lambs/T2
    1992: Reservoir Dogs/Glengarry Glen Ross
    1993: Falling Down
    1994: Shawshank Redemption/Pulp Fiction
    1995: The Usual Suspects/Se7en
    1996: Fargo/Trainspotting
    1997: L.A. Confidential/Donny Brasco
    1998: The Big Lebowski
    1999: Fight Club

    2000: Gladiator
    2001: The Royal Tenenbaums
    2002: LOTR:TT
2003: Kill Bill vol.1/Master and Commander
2004: Shaun of the Dead/The Incredibles
    2005: Goodnight and Good Luck
    2006: Pan's Labyrinth/Children of Men/Apocalypto
2007: Zodiac/No Country For Old Men/The Assassination of Jesse James
    2008: The Dark Knight
    2009: Inglorious Basterds

    2010: Inception
2011: Drive/Rise of the Planet of the Apes
    2012: Zero Dark Thirty/The Avengers
    2013: Her/Wolf of Wall Street
    2014: The Grand Budapest Hotel

    1973: Westworld

Awesome choice! If it weren't for Bruce Lee that would have been mine.

I like certainly enjoy WESTWORLD, but that year was too damned strong for me to consider putting as my pick.

The early 70's is one of my favourite movie eras. 1973 was quite tough, also considered Serpico, The Day of The Jackal and Badlands. I just love the premises of Westworld though and can't wait to see what HBO do with it.

    And Shamus!
    ;)

The HBO series might be interesting, but Westworld's greatest strength was the casting IMO. This one one will be all skin & CGI. I have zero interest in it myself.
The blu ray of Westworld is pretty great, btw.

Had to look up Shamus, never heard of it lol. Still think HBO could do a good job, been a few decent films recently exploring the possible dangerous implications of AI (Her, Ex Machina) and I'd trust them to continue in this vein. Like you say though, they'll have to go some way to match Yule Brenner as the Gunslinger, genius piece of casting.

I am never too thrilled with something done well the first time being remade. I've probably seen that work (for me, of course) less than a handful of times (INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS in the '70s was very good, though still not up to the original).
Exactly. Think of the wasted money... Day The Earth Stood Still, Poseidon, Halloween, etc.
Only I Am Legend was worthy of being made IMO, and even then ONLY the alternate version (the theatrical sucked).

Varying adaptations of a source book doesn't really bother me, either (unless (GONE WITH THE WIND, WIZARD OF OZ (1939), etc. an adaptation itself becomes a classic, then leave it alone).

Doesn't matter if you go from action one year to comedy the next- just go with your favorite from each year you've been alive.
This was hard to pick... Especially tough getting through the 80's!

    2014: Guardians of the Galaxy
2015: Creed (but will probably end up being The Force Awakens, let's be honest)

Only 3 Bond movies- I surprised myself!

    Shall we begin adding 2016?
BTW I changed 2015 to The Force Awakens, as predicted, lol

2016: Batman V Superman (so far- haven't seen Civil War yet)

Probably why it seemed to come out of nowhere when it was released in the UK!

I remember it got some really good reviews from British publications and that's what gave me the urge to see it. I loved it and immediately wanted to read the novel.

The film was released on VHS in the wake of The Silence Of The Lambs success. (in my opinion far inferior to Manhunter) and had something of a resurgence and lots of ignorant viewers wondering where this strange bedfellow to Silence Of The Lambs had appeared from.

I never tire of watching Manhunter.

Born in 1982, this is my list. For some years (especially 1994 and 2004) it was impossible to chose just one film:

    1982 – Blade Runner
    1983 – Rumble Fish / Scarface
1984 – Amadeus / Once Upon a Time in America

Somewhat off topic, but...Here are the weirdest films I have ever seen. And by weird, I don't mean in a David Lynch sort of way; I mean films that have an odd combination of cast, plot, music that makes the whole thing feel disjointed and/or uneasy. Most of these are early 90s films...an era of the bizarre, imho.

    The Warriors (1979)
    Sharky's Machine (1981)
    Risky Business (1983)
The Falcon and the Snowman (1985)
    Tequila Sunrise (1988)
    The Bodyguard (1992)
    Final Analysis (1992)
    Jennifer 8 (1992)
Rising Sun (1993) (Is this not Connery playing old man Bond in a weird YOLT sequel???)
    Intersection (1994)
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997)
    Random Hearts (1999)
    Spy Game (2001)
    The Recruit (2003)

If I catch any of these films on TV, especially late at night, I'm usually in a funk afterward. LOL

Love Sharky's Machine! Can't get the damn thing on DVD though!

@LeonardPine , you are far from the oldest one on here, go scan the first page of this thread. We even have people on these boards born pre-CR novel.

Well that's a relief, especially when you see that some members film list starts in the 90's!!!

By the way how do you post a link to someone's user name when replying to them like you have done with mine? Can't get the hang of it!!!
