    The quanity argument does not hold up. Remember we are judging raw directing ability just as much as the sum of each film put together. It is my opinion that Mendes made much more out of the material he had to work with than the other two. And honestly, some subjective opinions has to be allowed in a game like this! If not here, where else?

    I can't fathom how Lewis Gilbert has gone already. Whatever you think of YOLT, TSWLM and MR script/story-wise, they're undeniably well directed movies with many iconic scenes.

    Let's be honest, the Craig era will almost always be over proportionally favoured in such games, this is not about objectivity but subjectivity. It works the other way around too with the Brosnan era who is hated on here.

    I'm surprised QOS didn't rank higher, but then even the most avid Craig fans can't deny that this movie is a clunker direction wise I guess.

    I have made my peace with it and enjoy these games. It's a bit like democracy. You might not agree with the party that wins the election but if you don't vote at all you can't complain.

    It would be nice if more than the usual suspects would participate in those elimination games, especially those who see certain eras with a bit more objectivity, sadly a lot of those members don't seem to play the elimination games.

    That's why the outcome can always be pretty much predicted.

    By the way, wouldn't it be more fair to judge every direction for one particular film? I mean, it's a bit unfair to compare John Glen's 5 films, with so far only 1 film for Peter Hunt. There's not more material to really judge how good a director Peter Hunt was.

    If you really think about it, this is the perfect game to fault the directors, save one, for the Brosnan era. Aside from half of Roger Spottiswoode's film, Brosnan wasn't given many situations to win people over critically.

    It's not blind criticism but an observation I've made over all the games held since June when I first started to read through this forum.

    People "fight" to keep Mendes above Gilbert and Hamilton which is ridiculous.

    Well, I've made my point, I certainly don't expect people to agree and maybe I'm wrong or too touchy but I'm not the only one that has complained in the past.

    Maybe there's a reason why these games have less and less participants. I for one, will skip the next games, and shut up about it in the future.

    PS: I'm not referring especially to this game, I too would rank Tamahori and Apted at the bottom. Spottiswoode should maybe have been over Forster, maybe not. So it's not that I don't agree in this game with it.

    Me too. Campbell understands you have to be a leader and convey your story to your team.

    Although not all Spottiswoode's fault TND's production was notoriously turbulent.

    To the point that @Birdelson made, don't like that Gilbert and Hamilton are going under before the the one-time directors. TSWLM and GF are up there with SF and OHMSS, in my opinion. Do the remaining films bring down Hamilton and Gilbert? No boost at at all? In a head-to-head vote, I like Mendes' work with SF more than Hunt's with OHMSS. But other people think differently. And that's cool. No tears. Vote on.
