The Spy Who Loved Me, I guess!!!! That's the only film I remember her in....even though I'll take your word for it, Dimi ;-)
  • We're getting to a point now where the roles are so insignificant that they're barely noticable. I think this thread's end is drawing near. It was a great run. My vote goes to TSWLM basically by default.

We still have Dalton, Craig and Caroline Bliss to go.

Besides, I think recurring faces may get a bit of attention as well as recurring icons. ;;)

True but each of them only have 2 appearances. Atleast for now in terms of Craig's performances. I hope he does 5 all together. But atleast 4.

And Bliss has such a small role in LTK it barely registers. But I'll save that for later.

Come on, friend, don't take this too seriously. It's not like the films have altogether 100 or more recurring characters. We'll hardly get to 30. How will I decide who to exclude and who to keep in? There's always a grey zone. At first I wasn't going to do the 2-timers. But then I thought it unwise to leave out the likes of Jaws and Pepper, yet go with the Man with Bottle. I might have left him out too, of course, but other members might have requested his presence anyway. So, understanding that we wouldn't be voting endlessly for hundreds of characters and simultaneously accepting that our members often have clear preferences even for one of only two appearances made by a certain actor/character, I decided to approach the concept of this thread very mathematically: every actor or actress, recurring at least once in a particular role, gets a vote. If I have counted correctly, we'll end up with a list of 26 (but I might need a recount in a few days. ;;) ). So let us please not start debating over the conditions for making the list and have some fun with it for as long is it lasts. :)

Other than Robinson, Tanner and John Cleese's Q from the Brosnan years, who else is left?

    The Spy who loved me.

Also we do have Mr white from the Casino Royale and Quantum of solace (white in QOS ) wins) and the actor who played Professor Dent I think he played Blofeld in From Russia with love and thunderball (my vote goes for thunderball) and we don't know who might return in Bond 23 from Quantum of solace so if we keep this going till November we may have one or 2 new characters to discuss (or re discus if Wright returns as Leiter or if Dench blows us away in Bond 23)

    and Mathis!

and if we really want to have fun Maude Adams played octopussy in octopussy and she showed up in A view to a kill but has no dialogue might be playing the same character ...

Dalton's Bond, Craig's Bond, Mathis, Bliss' MP, Mr White, Robinson, Tanner, R's Q.

    Looks like I miscounted. ;;)

I won't take this one because he wasn't voiced by the same man. Wiseman spoke in TB.

That might be stretching things beyond fun. ;;)

That would be a bit ridiculous as hardly anyone has ever been able to find her in those scenes, let alone judge her 'performance'. :P

CR. His much too early death in QOS negates his 2nd performance. He should have been a regular for the Craig era.

A tough one because he was prominent in both, but i do like the talk he gave Bond on the plane and the chat at his villa in QOS.

    QOS i think - just.

Now that's more like it- someone we've heard of! lol

Mathis- that's a tough one, since his performance is equally outstanding in both films. I suppose I'd give the edge to QOS because in this one he's definitely a friend and not just a colleague. Shame to see him go, and I felt bad for how Craig had to leave him, but that's the life of a OO agent sometimes! Life isn't fair :)

Yeah, someone we have heard of!

I think he was great in both CR and QOS but I'd give the edge to QOS because of the deep conversation on the plane, his help in Bolivia, and his death scene.

QoS narrowly, only because of "Callate. Caaaallate. CALLATE POR FAVOR!"

Agreed. Also, Fleming never killed him off and it would've been nice for the series to keep as many Fleming remnants as possible. I vote for Casino Royale.

But I don't approve his early death.

I loved Mathis in both CR and QoS. I am edging slightly towards CR as my favorite. Mathis is much more central in the plot, and helps Bond out of it in more ways than one. His use of the bodies of Obanno and his men, the blackmailing of Le Chiffre's associate, and Bond's trust of Mathis is always there until he has reason to question it. I do understand now Bond's suspicion about the note to Vesper from "Mathis" in CR after reading the novel. Bond knew that Mathis would never write a note to meet and share information. He would always meet up directly. Bond still thinks Mathis is involved at the end though, so I think he wavered again in his thinking when Le Chiffre said "your friend Mathis is also my friend Mathis." Back on track here. While QoS is great with Mathis comforting Bond, and telling him to forgive Vesper, it is a tough choice. It would seem like the nail in the coffin would be Mathis's death scene, but it isn't. I'm with @DC007 on this one. He didn't have the magic of CR, and he should have definitely been kept on for future films. Such a great character went to waste so quickly. Why couldn't Bond had slightly opened the back of the van, seen it was Mathis, catch the cops off guard, disarm them and knock them out. Then he could get Mathis to the hospital and he and Camille would continue on, with QoS ending with Bond with Mathis in the hospital. That would've worked fine. Any thoughts?? Bond 23 will hurt from his absence that's for sure.

I'll give it to Casino Royale, I really like his conversation between him and Bond when the chief of police is arrested.

"I think your odds are improving, Mr. Bond."
