Interesting that you note an improvement in Masters, @ClarkDevlin. The reason I initially asked who drew that LALD-esque panel above was because it did look different than stuff I'd seen in VARGR pages, so much so that I thought at first it was from something outside of Ellis' arcs. Now, that may be down to how different a black and white image and a full color page look from one another, but I do see how Masters is evolving over time as he draws these books.

And, speaking as someone who does draw on a daily basis, the more you draw anything, you get a better sense of the elements of what you're drawing from, whether it's anatomy and proportion, how to lay out space and show depth, or how to compose panels to catch the readers' eyes and guide them along the page. I think the art will only get better as Masters is constantly faced with bringing these stories alive, and he's got more practice in drawing Bond and his supporting cast, as well as this crazy world of intrigue they've crafted together.

Well put, Brady. I couldn't have said it better myself. His art in the Eidolon story arc is indeed very well composed and he's definitely got the outlines of every person intact whereas VARGR showed its flaws, despite my enjoyment of it. Well, he's a newcomer, so I suspect he has long way to come into, if you know what I mean.

I personally draw myself but not on daily basis. Just a hobbyist. Practice indeed makes perfect as I have been experiencing in that field over the course of two years as I've been doing character sketches. My first effort, let's say, is a kindergarten kid's push of a pencil in comparison to my latest. Now, let's see what's the next issue has for us, which, if they don't happen to delay, comes out at the end of this month. Literally. My expectations are quite high since this arc, with two issues alone, have proved to be strongly built with excitement and adventure. And I'm not talking about the fascinating storytelling skills of Warren Ellis.

It appears we'll be getting a little bit of Live And Let Die look from Jason Masters in Bond. ;)

The gun look like a cowboy gun but the movie a stainless steel S&W 44 magnum which was famous by Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry. That time Magnum force. Clint Eastwood use A Walther pistol is couple of his movies. Talking about Dirty Harry. They Dynamite comic should do with the figure of Clint Eastwood only.

You look like Clive Owen? Awesome!!

..sorry, just kidding. Regardless Bond does tend to stand out in a crowd, doesn't he? And the other apparently less fortunate fellow.

Where do you think that is? The Tube? Looks like symbol on wall. I couldn't place the parachute sequence either.

I wish I could look half as manly as Clive Owen! If I do, I'd be grateful! :))

    No worries, mate. :D

He was looking like a celebrity yesterday, but now I don't know who does the injured man look like. Closest I could think of is Vincent Cassel, who'd make a very decent Bond villain, if you ask me, that is.

I think the parachute/assault sequence is merely a pre-titles type of an adventure. An opening, I could say. This one perhaps is just a random image that captures the spirit of the whole arc. That also said, it reminds me of the train sequence from Skyfall where Bond chases Silva.

That's what I thought too. The Silva part that is.

I'm more of a minor villain type kinda like Elvis but less hair.

Here's an interesting yet brief interview with Andy Diggle talking about the upcoming Hammerhead.

So a villain that's not really a villain and what he believes sorta makes sense but he tries to achieve that by any means necessary.

Sounds like the writer knows his job. We need more villains like that in the movies as well.

    @mcdonbb, @00Agent: Hello chaps! Been a while!

Just finished reading #9 and I have to say, there are many things that I found enjoyable. Especially the art in the third act.

Cover, and sollicitation for "Hammerhead" # 2 :

    SEP161566.jpg

" Assigned to hunt down and eliminate a terrorist threatening Britain's nuclear deterrent, 007 shadows the nation's leading defense contractor at the Dubai Arms Fair. As a lethal trap is sprung around him, Bond finds an unexpected ally in glamorous arms company executive Victoria Hunt."

Thanks for the review @ClarkDevlin. Deferred gratification is in my favor since I have yet to purchase #8. I'm catching up this weekend.

And thanks @Gerard for posting Hammerhead #2 cover and synopsis. Yay more globetrotting... Dubai was a wasted location in Carte Blanche. (Never finished that book nor even started Solo. )

Thanks @ClarkDevlin, i enjoyed this issue as well. can't believe we are only halfway through Eidolon. This felt almost like the big finale

Is it just me or did the issue just suddenly stop. I know comics go in for cliffhanger endings but this just felt awfully abrupt to me unless there was an error in my printing...

@TR007, is the last panel showing Bond looking backwards to an assailant in the dark?

Regarding the poster for Hammerhead #2, seen it while on vacation in Italy. Can't say much about the outlines, but I love how the water was coloured in the first place. Good to see they're bringing back the sharks... Just not with "friggin laser beams attached to their heads". ;)

@00Agent, I have a feeling at where Bond is now, this might very well be the big finale location.
  • Yes. It did just suddenly stop. I suspect another case of writing for the trade paperback compilation, rather than for the issue-by-issue reading experience. Having the Hammerhead promo follow hard on the heels of our actual story-in-progress only made the problem more pronounced...

It didn't feel that problematic with me, though. It's not like the previous issues didn't cut the story mid-action. They should have advertised Hammerhead in the next issue, though. Because, it doesn't come out until October.

I still haven't read #8 or #9 but an abrupt ending is just that an abrupt ending to an issue.

Doesn't or I don't think the abrupt ending will bother me at all in the scope of the entire story. Might be better for the story than an arbitrary cliffhanger just to fit the format.

It's not like we need a hook to buy #10 anyway. :P

And from the synopsis I think the action changes to a safe house. If so I imagine the conclusion might end there.

One more point how many think Eidolon might end with a bit of a cliffhanger? Seems like the arc might be a transitional story reintroducing SPECTRE and setting up for future stories.

And I know Ellis said no Blofeld. But Fleming's Blofeld was strangled.. wouldn't be the first fictional character to survive that.

    Just saying.

But considering EoN's reintroduction of Blofeld and EoN's litigious history they may well enough leave it alone.

Eidolon is a six-issue story arc. We only have three down so far.

I felt the same way. I was expecting the issue to conclude after the preview, but there were only ads. You'd think there'd be a "to be continued..." at the bottom of the last page!

I've been checking the newest coverage on Dynamite's official website. They released the November Solicitations and even went to place James Bond: Hammerhead #2 on the list, yet there's no sign of a sixth issue regarding the Eidolon storyline. Am I mistaken somewhere to have assumed it's a six-issue arc rather than five or something?

Despite the November post, no sign of Casino Royale, yet.
