It is always possible that some of his court dealings could become problematic and force that issue. I think all things being equal, though, they'd rather have an uninformed puppet in office that they can mold any way they see fit. Pence will play ball, as his political career was dead before Trump had 18 other people refuse the VP job ahead of him, but he might be a bit more difficult to control because he does have some knowledge about how Washington works.
I knew Paul Simon had been one of the co-writers of this song (big radio hit in the mid-sixties for the Cyrkle) but I had no idea Simon & Garfunkle had performed it. Until now.
one of the highlights of this year...

Wait, you forgot to connect it to something you've said relating to politics.
These democrats are like a bunch of zombies. They didn't see Trump coming.
Lotsa pretty girls in this one, Jason. I think you'll like it.
And with that, I promise to try to leave this thread for what it is.

What's so difficult? It doesn't make Trump a better man, if that is your concern. He remains what he is in your eyes, so...

I'm sure what Trump has said about Hilary and co has some truth in it. In fact, I'm not, by any means, a fan of Hilary. But she is the lesser of two evils in my opinion, whose understanding of the world and of politics far exceeds that of Trump. She, at least, could have been a competent president, no matter what dirt can be dug up about her. A great leader needs not be someone with a clean record for me; he or she needs to be capable first and foremost. So it's perfectly possible that what Trump told us about her is mostly true or even 100 % true, but that still doesn't necessarily mean he's the better candidate in my opinion.
Look, I can't change things so let Trump be president. "Democracy" - and I've never thought of democracy as perfect - has done its job, even if it is in a twisted and mathematically curious way. We're stuck with him and I include us both in the "we" since his presidency may influence our lives just as well. I sincerely hope he can make things better. I wouldn't want to see the man fail just to prove a point.
But it's a binary thing:
- either he strikes hard and with fury, as he promised during his campaign, and then he's going to be an obnoxious, fascist leader who will damage the entire planet once more, just like the Bushes;
- or he sheds his wolf's skin and turns out surprisingly decent, in which case he lied his way into office and Americans might just as well have voted for Clinton, since she always was the calmer, more modest and more realistic of them both.
People seem to think this is a tiebreaker, the historical moment when the people take back power, with Trump as a capitalist who suddenly turned into a Robin Hood for the middle class, who will successfully defend America against foreign treads and clean it up domestically as well. I fail to see where this naive enthusiasm comes from. He steamrolled through his campaign, using Medieval logic, approaching his target demographic like an arrogant pontiff, and now that he has somewhat lowered his voice, I should simply assume that he will be the first politician ever to actually do as he claimed and listen to the people rather than to the few who are really in charge? Clinton may not be without faults, she may have been one of the weakest candidates the democrats have had in decades. But she understands that in this day and age, sudden decisions, impulsive decisions, are worth nothing. Long-term solutions typically cause short-term friction. Short-term solutions typically result in long-term problems. What's good for the economy is typically damaging to the environment. What's good for our planet is typically bad for the economy. Military ambitions may provoke retaliations; military immobility may result in protests and domestic problems... The world has become impossibly complicated. It takes someone who's not afraid of nuance and compromises to allow a nation to survive in the best possible way under his or her leadership. Trump has never shown any nuance. He thinks in black and white, in absolutes and simple terms. Hilary may have dirt on her hands, I'm not going to claim she hasn't, but in my humble opinion she understands the complexity of the world far better than Trump does. If Trump's campaign suggest anything about how he's going to deal with things, some will profit but many will lose. You can never please an entire nation, let alone the entire world, but you can, at the very least, try to minimize the negative impact of your decisions. Trump simply stigmatised groups of people Hitler style. He ignorantly reduced Brussels to a 'failed state', totally infected by terrorism, simply because he doesn't know what he's talking about yet this is precisely the kind of simple, moronic truths he needed to appeal to the masses, who swallowed this down like doughnuts.
One last time: what if all the things he revealed about Hilary are true? I will concede she's far from flawless. The moment Hilary got elected as the presidential candidate for the democrats, I called it a day and hoped for the best, because I knew that a mistake with historical consequences was made. Despite all that, she remained the lesser of these two evils in my opinion.
Hopefully I have answered your question, GL. :) Look, it's fine. We don't see things the same way. I'm not going to battle it out any longer. We're peripherally involved anyway, you and I. I guess time will tell - and time WILL tell. Granted, change is needed in many respects. My only fear is, the kind of change Trump may or may not introduce, may not be the kind we need.
Signing off from this thread now. :-) Good luck to America.
Still - I don't get, how anyone can believe to an extend those accusations and still think, she is the lesser evil. She prooved, she is evil, Trump - so far - with all his corrupte business politics doesn't even come close to that. Give him a chane, for **** sake.
Personally I think those around him will strive to insulate Trump from actual decision making on many issues. We have seen U turns on a few subjects thus far and the manner to which the tone of his presidency will be set might just have already manifested itself in his speech made during the night of his win. A speech which will have been written for him. He could have chosen to ignore that speech but went with it knowing the text contradicted the manner of his campaign up to that point. He will have been advised heaily every inch of the way since winning - his meeting with Obama and even his words about the demonstrators are perhaps other indicators of just how much he will be steered by unseen hands.
After only two days of Trump:
Syrian President Assad calls for cooperation with th United States
Putin says Russia ready to restore postive relations with the USA, preventing the second Cold War to start
Canada and Mexico agree to cooperate with Trump on renegotiating or scrapping NAFTA
White House plans to abandon TPP and TTIP

They are just using their democratic rights before they are taken away by people that disagree with.

How was I supposed to know
That something wasn't right here?
Oh, baby, baby
I shouldn't have let you go
And now you're out of sight, yeah
Show me how you want it to be
Tell me, baby,
'Cause I need to know now, oh, because...
My loneliness is killing me (and I)
I must confess, I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me, baby, one more time
