A Thunderball lover. A brilliant film and fairly faithful to Fleming’s novel.

Can't argue with that last one. My only real issue with your list is the low rankings of TMWTGG and YOLT.

@Birdleson I love the first half of YOLT. The second half not so much. The climax is pretty good though. The first 45 minutes of TMWTGG are great and I like the climax as well. The scenes in Bangkok really drag it down for me though.

Me too. Despite the lack of gunbarrel (which is enfuriating) QoS has one of the best Pre-title sequences in the whole series.

+1. The car chase by the lake was filmed like 20 minutes from my place. Remembering how exciting was back in 2008, and thankfully the scene turned out amazing.

I really dislike the super fast editing. It's too much. Along with the shaky cam.
I'm also not a fan of the overall story, I don't really enjoy the opera scene. Tosca's not for everyone ;)
The cast is actually pretty good, and it moves quickly. It's a film I realise works for many, but it's the only film in the series that doesn't feel like a Bond film too me.
You could take the character of James Bond out of the movie and it's a generic action film with Matt Damon...Keanu Reeves...whoever. Just my feeling on it.

For me it's SF that doesn't feel like a Bond movie.
QOS does though, the characters are excellent, (Greene, Mathis, Fields, Camille, and Greg Beam) and Craig is superb
The editing is no longer a problem for me.
That car chase is stunning, and love the fight on the scaffolding. Great setting for the finale too, and the final sequence confronting Vespers lover is a great ending

All great moments in QoS. Agreed.
  • Since Bond 25 is nearly a year away, and considering I’ve never done a ranking on this forum before, I thought I would post my rankings. Next year before B25 comes out I’ll probably re-rank them as I’m planning on doing a Bond-athon in the lead up.

    24. Moonraker
    23. Die Another Day
    22. A View to a Kill
    21. The Man with the Golden Gun
    20. You Only Live Twice
    19. Diamonds are Forever
    18. Quantum of Solace
    17. Live and Let Die
    16. Octopussy
    15. Dr No
    14. Licence to Kill
    13. For Your Eyes Only

    05. From Russia with Love
    04. GoldenEye
    03. Skyfall
    02. Casino Royale
    01. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

I only dislike two films, and the top four I think are a class above the rest and occasionally flip flop a lot.

Rating might have something to do with pic related. Absolutely bizarre.

I always felt Roger really sells that scene. The intensity as the bomb is being defused was superb.

One critical element that may have been overlooked, though: Bond's ability to change into the clown suit at such a super speed. Well, Christopher Reeves was on the set that day visiting and maybe Supes gave Bond a hand with his costume change?

  • ^ I could see that @Birdleson . I think I could make an objective list for which films I think are the best, or a list that I get the most enjoyment out of.

for example, LALD is my favourite , one of my first Bonds. However, I admit that films like Casino Royale, FRWL, and OHMSS are better 007 films.

So, I suppose I have to just make a list of my favourite films and just be as honest as possible, lol.

Exactly. That's why Octopussy has been as high as #2 on my list. Field agents must use every means at their disposal to complete their objective...

Being chased by police, trying to blend in the circus to diffuse a bomb, a clown outfit is the perfect disguise. More absurd things have happened in the franchise

    Absolutely @w2bond.
If you're a spy who needs access to a circus and you're being pursued by armed guards and local police, then what better way is there than to disguise yourself as a clown.
I love that Bond finds himself in the same costume as 009 had on as well.
