    Trump is equally dangerous.

Even more dangerous than Bush and the neocons? Think how many people have died in Middle Eastern wars. How ISIS was armed by the West trying to depose the Syrian leader. The chaos after deposing the Libyan leadership. The ongoing provocation of Russia.

Could Trump be worse? If anything he seems to be against wars and conflict

I'd prefer to live next door to rude harmless man, than a polite serial killer

Yep just as bad as Bush. I wouldn't call Trump harmless. With his temper and ego, He'd probably like to get back at someone in a harsh way. And that's what scares me most.

People call Trump a racist for LOTS of documented stuff, like refusing to rent to blacks back in the '70s. Look it up.

Illegal Immigration is a huge issue with lots of different ramifications that will take everyone involved working together to solve. I live in California and have worked alongside both legal and illegal immigrants since 1971, so I'm not unaware of the situation. But it's going to take a lot more than saying "I WILL build a wall!" to fix it. Trump ain't the guy to do anything more than flap his lips.

    40 years ago.. People change.
In all fairness Hillary let a child rapist walk..

"It all fairness let me slander your candidate." No, thank you quite strongly for your generous offer.

40 years ago Hillary did her job as a lawyer. Would you rather change the system so that public defenders are not assigned for certain types of charges, or so that PDs are instructed to not try their best when defending against those charges? Try again, and this time try to be a little more honest.

The Rude Pundit is uncommonly polite this afternoon. So here he is, totally uncut, italicized, and entirely too sensible:

    10/07/2016

We Are in This Election Because the Right Couldn't Stop Trying to Destroy Clinton (and the Media Loved It)
In the last week or so, both USA Today and the Atlantic magazine have broken with protocol to weigh in on the presidential election, either to say, "Don't vote for Trump" or "Vote for Clinton." Across the country, newspapers that have traditionally endorsed Republicans have endorsed Hillary Clinton because they see Donald Trump as a danger to the nation. There is a real sense of panic out there in media-land as the potential of a Trump presidency sinks in, making its final transition from bad joke to existential threat.

Republican and conservative fears are especially palpable now. Conservative talk radio host Charlie Sykes faced his side of the political battlements and discovered that there was a void there: "You look around and you see how much of the conservative media infrastructure buys into the post-factual, post-truth culture." It is a void that he understands that he himself helped to create. Sykes was one of the loudest on-air voices talking about fake "voter fraud" in 2008, something that became a rallying cry for people who ignore facts. Sykes is now retiring, perhaps to go work off some of his on-air sins for, as he said, "I am feeling, to a certain extent, that we are reaping the whirlwind at that. And I have to look in the mirror and ask myself, ‘To what extent did I contribute?'"

It's very easy to see how we got to this point where Donald Trump has become the nominee of the Republican Party and where, while he's falling behind further every day, there is still a possibility he can win. And the blame falls on so many of the voices of the right who are now waving their arms frantically, trying to tell the nation to get off the tracks before the Trump train runs them over.

We don't get here without the 25 years of right-wing demonization of Hillary Clinton. We don't get here without every fruitless investigation into something Clinton-related, all political retribution for Bill Clinton daring to be elected president and his wife daring to step out of the prescribed social role of First Lady. On NPR, the genuinely evil Michael Chertoff, who had various roles in the Bush II administration, said he was supporting Clinton this year. And while that is cause for alarm itself, here is what he said about how those investigations affected the safety of the country: "In looking back on that I realized that in the '90s we spent an enormous amount of time pursuing issues involving the Clintons' associations back in Arkansas in the '80s, Whitewater and other things, and we didn't spend nearly the same amount of time on what bin Laden was up to and others were up to in the region." This is the guy who led the probe into the Whitewater land deal, one of the earliest and longest-lasting fake Clinton scandals. He says that Clinton derangement syndrome diverted attention away from real threats.

Without those unending congressional and special prosecutor investigations, as close to a witch hunt as we've gotten in the last few decades, Hillary Clinton would be a respected former cabinet member and senator, not the icon for every bad thing happening around the world because of her innate vileness. And the complicity of the media, in an incredibly general sense, is a factor.

Every time a newspaper or magazine or news organization gave space to fan the flames of every false -gate or every outlandish accusation against Clinton, they were laying the foundation for Trump. Every time a story that started in right-wing media Siberia was picked up by an allegedly more respectable outlet, Trump was closer to rising out of the ooze to bring about a plague on our electoral system. Every time CNN or the New York Times interviewed someone about how terrible Hillary Clinton had hidden law firm documents or travel files, Trump was given form and energy. And every time the GOP or the media exploited ignorant people and pretended that their stupidity was wisdom, Trump lurched ever forward.

Trump doesn't exist as a candidate with a following of millions of people just because Republicans are terrible. He is here because of years and years of denigrating Clinton for illegitimate reasons. And now that there is an actual chance that he would be elected, those same politicians, pundits, and publications are attempting to mitigate their role as accomplices.

In other words, you can endorse Clinton all you want, however hard that is for you. But you just brought this on yourselves.

    ******

That was Lee Papa aka The Rude Pundit. We now return you to the standard thread.

Lol you can slander my candidate but I can't slander yours? Typical. I guess your opinion is the only thing that counts huh? Donald was on a reality show for a long time didn't give a crap what people thought. All these politicians cheat on their wives and hook up with prostitues but they are politicians they cover their tracks.

Trump has never been a politician.
People hate him because they said oh what an idiot he will never be the nominee.. He's the nominee and he has been the leading the polls off and on. I don't really care if you like Hillary. I don't really care if Donald Trump said the "N" word 50 years ago..

Hillary has already been in the White House twice and both times it was a disaster it's time for change.

LOL, 'disaster'? Bad, yes, but 'disaster'? 'Disaster' would be Reagan/Bush(s). You seem to need some control of your hyperbole, sir.

I've been polite to you thus far, @CASINO. Don't give me reason to change that policy. I haven't been slandering your candidate, although I have been ridiculing him from time to time. There's a difference. I recommend you learn it.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own facts. The two-term tenure of Bill Clinton was far from a disaster. The economy during Bill's tenure was very good; America was not involved in any overseas wars. It was only with the Presidency of Bush II that the disaster began.

And as far as polls are concerned: www.fivethirtyeight.com is currently giving Hillary 85-15 odds over Trump. Enjoy the debacle...

Trump is a politician in everything but title. I'm sick of people trying to make it out that he's any different than the worst of the government types we've seen. He's very reminiscent of Nixon, in that he views himself as teflon and completely in the right for doing or saying things others people do as well.

It's a folly to generalize politicians, however, as many are out to incite real change, not the childish and rather bogus definition of the term many of Trump's supporters are willing to risk America undergoing with the big orange buffoon in the king's chair. I bet Trump would just love to sit in a gold plated throne, drinking the tears of the working class for sustenance.

Trump's successes prove us more the fool than him, but only just. Of course, in a reality television world run amok where so many of the populace are willing to lap up any bullshit entertainment that gets shoved in front of them, a man who is the face of a reality show program appeals to them more than anything. We've gotten so used to being tricked by slight of hand and have lost so much grasp over true reality-the real world bleeding and crying out from a dark corner-that we even accept our own lies as truths. We are growing stupider and stupider than ever before, and America is running out of jokes to be the punchline of at this point.

Obviously a quote but I don't know from where. Please enlighten us?

  • And just to reassure the jittery: after the release of the newest Trump "galore-grabbing" video, Slate.com's daily Trump Apocalypse Watch has been reduced to an unprecedented one-quarter of one horseman. It may be a bit early to say for sure, but get out your forks, folks -- Trump could finally be done...

But still, the story is becoming.....rapidly big. And not in a good way:

  • I was kidding, @Gustav. It was a reference to @CASINO'S...oh, never mind. If you have to explain a joke it wasn't very funny.

If this is what it takes to finally put a silver bullet into the shambling corpse that is Donald Trump's candidacy then fine, I'll take it. I don't understand why a decade-old crudity is the wooden stake through his semblance of a heart when he's been spouting so many of them this past year, but -- okay. Bye-bye, Donald. Still want to bring up Monica Lewinsky on Sunday night? I'd recommend against it...

Just fyi on the latest scandal. But why this would shock people, I don't know. I'm not even surprised.

This doesn't even get into Trump's bigotry of several ethnic groups or unstable ideas concerning nuclear weapons. Or .... oh so many things. These are not small things.

In the UK this would be it, any person said anything like this would be finished. That being said although my country is far from perfect I have enough faith that such a man would never get within a mile of political office.

Defending this man is pointless now, it was pointless before but some of you continued to carry on but at this point despite it being 10 years old and coming as no surprise coming out of this man's mouth any of you thinking this is fine convinces me you share his point of view or think it's fine to think of women this way.

Trumps actions during his campaign show no sign that he has changed since these comments in fact his behaviour throughout only goes to strengthen he changed not one iota from the man who spouted this vile garbage.

You can't really argue with that one I'm afraid but please try it will be fun to watch.

Fully agree. And I do up this proves to be a bit of a wake-up call. Even saying that from the worst candidates in history, Trump still is the better one, comes across as being in complete denial. There were some 'evangelicals' who actually dared to say yesterday (CNN's 360) that God forgives...and that it was a wonderful thing that Trump actually apoligized. My God, this man is a self-declared mysoginist and narcissist.

Who knows, perhaps deep down Trump may be happy about this video leak. He may have realized he's not presidential material, he fluked his way to get this far into the race, and if these comments ruin his chances so be it. He can reinvent himself again and go back to reality tv.

I personally don't get the sudden hoopla over these comments. Why now, after all the mean and vile shit he's said in the past, are people now suddenly deciding it's too much? I just don't understand why now, just 40 or so days from voting, people are now saying he's gone to far, after his comments about Mexico, and Miss America, and all the people he's mocked and bullied over and over and over. Why?

    God we're idiots.

You know the proverb? Only one drop more can destroy the balance and empty the bucket :-). That's what this is about. The GOP swallowed a lot -IMO way too much- and this recent news item sells it.

If it has taken these comedic comments of Trump (made in 2005!) to finally put him into trouble then it's just sad.
What about everything he said before, some of it is much more troubling.

Furthermore what he said is probably what half of the Republicans think of women anyway and 100% of all Tea Party members anyway.

So we simply continue belittling women? We simply accept it? This is sexism and mysogyny.

Moreover, does Trump get away with such stuff and Bill Cosby not? At times I think we're applying double standards here. Just....imagine if you have a guy like Trump around you constantly being disrespectful of you as a woman.

@Gustav_Graves, if you've got the influence of a Trump or Cosby, yeah, you do get away with it. The world steamrolls over everyone but the elite, the rich and the "famous," usually because they are the ones in the driver's seat. I don't need to tell you this, though.

What I think @BondJasonBond006 is saying is that we've endured similar blanket statements about minorities from Trump, heard his disrespectful comments about war veterans and the medals they risk their lives saving others to garner, and his outlandish shouts of "Bomb them" when it comes to ISIS and other terrorist cells or nations, that these surfaced comments just feel, well, unsurprising and they befit the picture we've had of him from jump.

You can spout your proverbs all you want, but proverbs are proverbs and humans are humans. We need to be better than this, and it shouldn't take this long to see what is right in front of our noses.

I know. But I think there's a difference. And it's actually explained here:

    http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/our-live-elections-podcast-reacts-to-donald-trumps-lewd-comments/

Yes, it's all typical Trump. But I do think this particular language is much worse, because it catches up with Trump while he's simply at work, and not on a campaign trail. He's apparently talking like that casually as well. I think that's a pivotal difference. It's also the wording he's using. It's more directly aggressive then his previous descriptive demagoguery.

And on top of that "Crooked Hillary" or "Miss Piggy" simply doesn't sound as bad as "You just grab them by the pussy". You know, what fears me most is the fact that people not only start getting used to such faul incorrect language anymore. People also slowly loose the ability to actually grade faul language, to make a distinction between what's bad, and what's much worse. I mean, what's next? "You just grab this black woman by the pussy, because they already are prostitutes"?

Sorry man, Trump crossed the line here. You say we need to be better than this. Well, then let THIS be a moment for goodness sake. And hypocritical or not, I'm at least glad that some politicians see the light now.

One test for you and others out here: Ask yourself if your dad has said that kind of stuff to women. Ask yourself that! This......man is supposed to be some kind of role model for God sake. And still....still I read people's remarks that 'they have heard stuff much worse'. It's wrong to get used to people talking in such faul language. Especially for the sake of our kids.
