This is really stretching it. So it's third out of seven in series? And it's released sixth. Would that mean that if someone's favourite Roger Moore Bond film is The Spy Who Loved Me it outshone the original Bond film - Live and Let Die?

    Spider-Man 2 vs Spider-Man 1.
Both are classic superhero films, and rightly so. However, the sequel feels a lot less dated than its predecessor, even for '02.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Episodes 1-3 are their own distinct trilogy, in a different era.

Each to their own I guess. In fitting with the OP's criteria I consider Episode three a follow up film to Episodes four, five and six - especially seeing as it's directed and written by the same guy who wrote and directed the original and contains many of the same characters some played by the same people and even has interlinking storylines.

Er, no it wasn't. Lucas didn't direct episodes 5 or 6.

While I would still give the edge to the original for its superior story, I do enjoy Reloaded quite a lot. The action sequences are absolutely top-notch (they're significantly better than those in the original and remain among the best of all-time imho). Where Reloaded is let down is with its structure and its story—and some of its more pretentious dialogue as well. Still though, the action in this film cannot be beat. Where the really sharp drop-off in this trilogy occurs is not between 1 & 2, but between 2 & 3.

Actually, come to think of it, I do think The Animatrix is a better film than the original. I'm sure many will disagree with that, however, and I can see valid arguments on both sides.

I said he wrote and directed the original.

    Only to name a few.

Back to the Future 3 over the original? There's expressing personal taste and then there is just plain violent provocation!

It's funny it used to be my least favorite but there is just something special about it. Instead of being devoted strictly to Marty this is a story about Doc who I think is a little more interesting and compelling than Marty. I do need to revisit the series again soon.

If remakes are allowed too, I'd say Gone in Sixty Seconds. Couldn't really watch the orginal. Boring as hell, and ugly cars too...

Because there is no sequel involved, they are both have the same source material and should be the same story. Which happens not to be the case.

I agree, Spider-Man 2 is one of the benchmarks of the superhero movie. However, Mary-Jane is one of the worst characters I’ve ever seen and put up with. There’s nothing likable about her. Whine, b*tch, scream and whore around was her entire character.

Meanwhile, Clerks 2 was a comedy sequel done right.

Just watched 'Paddington 2' with my daughter.
We both agree its much better than the first one.
Hugh Grant and Brendan Gleeson are both hilarious in it!

Agree, agree, agree. Love that film. My children and I rewatch that regularly.
I would throw Superman 2 into the ring.
