    Newman is the man! Similar to SF? Absolutely! And why change what was so successful, last time? I don't mean repeat it, but he does not need to do a 180 either.

    And there is still 95 minutes to go!

    I'd be intrigued to know the thought process behind the 'Grand Bazaar' cue. I wonder if they used it as a guide track in the edit and decided that it worked so well it didn't need too much trimming. Either that, or perhaps it was decided it would serve as the automotive theme of the Mendes era.

    That bit with the choir is so good, I hope there's more of it.

    I've listened to it about 10 times now with breaks.

    It's not bad......not offensive.....not intrusive....should support the accompanying scene well. My favourite part is the way it ends. There's a 60's spy movie aspect to that ending. The choir element is somewhat 'Batman Danny Elfman' or 'Zimmer' to my ears, but maybe I'll change my view on repeated listens.

    Having said that, it's somewhat generic & run of the mill compared to the franchise's storied past. I guess I'll have to rely on the slower cues to provide some melodic elements.

    I was thinking 'Spiderman Danny Elfman', but I don't mind it all. Bit different for Bond and not as generic as the intro.

    I mentioned in the other thread that I can hear some CR cues in Backfire. However, to my ears there are certain aspects that are more reminiscent of parts of African Rundown and Miami International from that film.

    I wonder if this was intentional....to sort of tie the DC era together.

    I'm really starting to like it. I respect Newman's ideology that the music has to co-exist with the action. We won't know until we see the film, but in this case I think it works.

    Just heard Backfire and loved it. The choir in it was fantastic and it gives me a nice idea of the pacing of the scene in question.

    Let's wait for the full soundtrack. 2 tracks down, 24 more to go. I'm considerably excited to hear which track could have the gunbarrel music....and I have a feeling "Snow Plane" could be a masterpiece.

    I think EON should keep an eye on Henry Jackman and Daniel Pemberton (NOT David Arnold or Joe Kraemer). But here I go as well! Thomas Newman is the composer. Accept it. And if you don't instantly like it, then please let it grow to you....listen to it more often. 'Growers' in music also have a certain beauty.

    I'm judging both tracks on their own merrits. one is good and the other is a mess. Bond music is somthing that's very important to me. I listened to it many times and still don't like Backfire. Legitimate criticism isn't disrespect, I was expecting something different and got more of the same. As I said, I enjoyed Donna Lucia, but not a fan of backfire. I'm not dismissing the whole score. But when it is released I shall be buying it and reviewing it track by track. I'm entitled to my opinions too you know.

    You're right actually. The more I listen to it, the Spidey parallel comes to mind for the choir bit.

    I never cared for the Skyfall soundtrack. Newman is the master of lullaby with Skyfall.
    Nothing memorable, the only exception that Grand Bazaar Istanbul track.

    Especially if you know Newman's body of work, Skyfall disappoints immensely imo.

    In that regard he is like Mendes. Both belong to the best of their craft but with Bond (Skyfall) they couldn't provide their masterpiece or one of them.
    IMHO of course, but I really rank almost all other movies from Mendes clearly over Skyfall and the same applies to Newman. He has done some unforgettable masterpieces.

    I will listen to the Spectre soundtrack with an open mind though (of course!).
    I know what the man is capable of and I hope Spectre will be his finest hour.

    Listened to both tracks and I have to say that I'm sincerely impressed; it's sounding much better than what we received for Skyfall, but then again, there are still 22 tracks left to unveil. I may listen to one or two more when they make it online before the film's release, but I want to save a majority of them for my first viewing.

    Now Now...let's be nice. Comparing a legendary musical artist like Barry to Newman is like comparing Die Another Day to Casino Royale.
    I personally enjoyed the track and am VERY eager to see how it accompanies, what is sure to be, an epic scene in the film.
