I do have to say, after recently rewatching this one, I really do enjoy his performance in this.... the script might have been pretentious at times - but I feel he really tried to show more emotional depth, and a slightly edgier side - especially during the scene when first confront Renard in the bunker, and also the way he coldly dispatches of Elektra (infront of M no less) and cooly says "I never miss" .... i thought his action afterwards towards her corpse were a bit bizarre.... considering she was about to kill him, was never "brainwashed" - and that she in fact was the manipulator, not Renard - and yet, Bond still shows a brief glimpse of sorrow or sadness towards her?... umm - should've put one more round in her, just to be safe - the ol' double tap..... but other than that, I thought this was his best performance outside of Goldeneye.

There are a few for this one. Sophie Marceau is fantastic. Brosnan gives a great performance with a sometimes decent script. But in his one scene, Desmond reminds me why I'm a Bond fan every time I watch it. Gotta give it to him

Maybe Judi Dench? I don't really know to be honest. These last two films are somewhat lacking.

Ok, now what? Who do I give 11/10? Rosamund? Would be the easy way out... and dictated by hormones. ;;) I think I need to go for Peter Lamont. I can't help it. I like the production design of the film.

This one's tough. Maybe The Producers, but purely on a marketing and money-making front. This was up to this point the most financially successful Bond. So I think they really went over the top with branding the Bond character as an international financial money maker this time around. Artistically, Lee Tamahori , but only for location scouting. The scenery does look really nice, from Iceland to the Havana shots done in Spain. I also think the stark grey tones in the the PTS in North Korea really capture the mood of that scene well. Those are the standouts. But obviously I don't need to tell you the big giant flaws, you know them already...

Edit: I would also second DarthDimi's mention of Peter Lamont. The sets if anything do have character in this one and do standout, unlike a great number of Bond films up to this point.

Brosnan gives his best performance. Whenever I think of him as Bond, I think of this film. I'll have to go with him on this one

For now, I'll give it to the target seeking shotguns. Seriously, they have a mind of their own and every time they pop out of the Aston's hood a smile comes to my face.

What deserves an 11/10 in DAD? Ha! Easy:

    The credits.

    The mojito.
  • So I'm supposed to find an 11/10 from Die Another Day, this should be something

    I'm thinking hard

One thing that stands out is the pre credits bit before Ms Ciccone opens her mouth and makes an absolute mess of it. Any Bond teaser after what they put together in The World Is Not Enough was going to be a tall order for anyone but it was a very fun bit and kept my interest

I really can't think of anything else

I'll add Toby Stephens as I remember he did OK, and he is a fine stage performer and actor
  • Know what? I credit Neal Purvis and Robert Wade for coming up with one hell of a intro sequence/opening titles scene. Other than, fuck this piece of junk.

Brosnan. At least he tried to salvage the film. The PTS and the sword fights were actually pretty decent.

there was excellent set design on this film (as hokey as it sometimes was).. everything from the gene therapy clinic to the ice palace - it had a old school retro, larger than life feel........ too bad they flushed the script down the toilet.

11/10 for Brosnan and his beard. First time we get to see Bond truly captured, which gives him some vulnerability. Can't understand all the hate for this film. Sure it's over-the-top and full of CGI, but I like my Bond movies over-the-top - and that's coming from someone who regards FRWL the best Bond film. It's a fun romp, and I never get tired of it TBH.
