Thanks for starting this. Is the last elimination game finished?

    DN: Dr. No's Lair
    DN: Tarantula Room
    DN: M's Office
    DN: Climactic Nuclear Lab
    FRWL: Chess Room
    FRWL: Kerim's Rug Emporium
    GF: Fort Knox
    GF: Rumpus Room
    GF: Laser Room
    TB: SPECTRE Meeting Room
    YOLT: Volcano Lair
    YOLT: Henderson's Apartment
YOLT: Blofeld's Apartment (I suppose one could make the argument that this is part of the “Volcano Lair”
    OHMSS: Piz Gloria
    DAF: Willard Whyte's Penthouse
    DAF: Whyte's Summer House
    LALD: Kananga's Lair.
    TMWTGG: Slanted RMS Queen Elizabeth
    TMWTGG: Scaramanga's Funhouse
    TSWLM: Supertanker
    TSWLM: Atlantis
    MR: Drax's Space Station
    MR: Amazon Control Room
    MR: Venice Glass
    FYEO: St. George's.
    FYEO: St. Cyril's
    OP: Rotating USSR Meeting Room
    OP: Octopussy's Boudoir
    AVTAK: Zorin's Mine
    TLD: Whittaker's Home
    LTK: Sanchez's House
    LTK: Professor Joe's Mediation Base
    GE: Janus' Base
    TLD: Carver's HQ
    TWINE: Warhead Bunker, Kazakhstan
    TWINE: Maiden's Tower
    DAD: Ice Palace Hotel
    CR: The Casino Royale
    CR: Ship and Bond's plums
    CR: Sinking House
    QoS: Opera House
    QoS: Atacama Desert Hotel
    SF: Abandoned City
    SF: Macau Casino
    SF: Skyfall

I know that a few of these are real life buildings.

I think that's all them, but feel free to suggest ones that we may have missed. I've tried to limit my self for three sets per film. I hope that isn't too bloated.
  • That's a pretty good list, although I might suggest substituting the SPECTRE training grounds for the chess room in FRWL and replacing Carver's lair in TND with something else, given that it's a carbon copy of the Supertanker in TSWLM (it's the same set, as a matter of fact).

If we include all of those, please don t start at 30 points, which has been the norm for a while.
  • That's 45 entries, about double the usual number. So start with 15 points? I guess you could go down to 10 if you really wanted to, maybe even up to 20, but 15 is the best choice.

We only have 1 game going at the moment so this one can begin when it's ready.

    OP: Octopussy's Boudoir
    AVTAK: Zorin's Mine
    TLD: Whittaker's Home
    GE: Janus' Base, Cuba

    CR: Sinking House
    QoS: Opera House
    QoS: Atacama Desert Hotel
    SF: Abandoned City
    SF: Macau Casino
    SF: Skyfall

I fear this is too big. I think only 2 sets per film. I have to set aside M's first office, as it's so iconic.

So, with that in mind, here are your runners and riders, to cut this down to size -

    DN: Dr. No's Lair
    DN: Tarantula Room
    DN: Climactic Nuclear Lab

    GF: Fort Knox
    GF: Rumpus Room
    GF: Laser Room

    YOLT: Volcano Lair
    YOLT: Henderson's Apartment
    YOLT: Blofeld's Apartment

    MR: Drax's Space Station
    MR: Amazon Control Room
    MR: Venice Glass

    CR: The Casino Royale
    CR: Ship and Bond's plums
    CR: Sinking House

    SF: Abandoned City
    SF: Macau Casino
    SF: Skyfall

Its a shame that three of the Ken Adam sets have to be whittled down.

Any thoughts? Feel free to change them. I think the majority of voters wins, on this pre-elimination elimanation... ;-)

Whyte s summer house isn t really a designed set, though. And neither is Sanchez s house.

Edited my posts to reflect that neither Whyte's and Sanchez's house are not sets.

This is going to be live come the weekend. Any suggestions?
  • A few thoughts before we go live...

If we're only including sets that were built specifically for the film, weren't both the Opera House and the Eco Hotel in QOS pre-existing buildings? Could be wrong on the Opera House... Also, can anyone verify whether the Maiden's Tower interior from TWINE was pre-existing or built for the film? The submarine set would be a good substitute.

On YOLT, I'd much rather see Blofeld's apartment included than Henderson's (or even Osato's office, which is a stunning work of art from Ken Adam in and of itself).

Similarly, I prefer Skyfall's Macau Casino to either the Abandoned City or Skyfall, but others can weigh in on that.

And, while not a huge deal, I do also prefer Carver's Saigon HQ to his Hamburg HQ. Again, I'll leave that for others to weigh in on.

And it'd be a true shame if that terrific retro-futuristic nuclear lab set from Dr. No's climax isn't included. I would gladly sacrifice, say, FYEO's rather nondescript St. George's set for its inclusion.

A couple other notable sets from GoldenEye include the gas tank room from the PTS and Trevelyan's armored train. Just throwing those suggestions out there.

Considering what a massive list we have, it might not be a bad idea to split this into two games: one for Ken Adam sets and one for non-Ken Adam sets. Because let's face it, Ken Adam's sets are surely going to rise to the top here. Not saying that a handful of the others won't be able to make a decent go at a handful of Adam's, but for the most part I'm sure there will probably be a pretty clear divide. That could also leave open the possibility of a future 3rd elimination game between, say, the top 10 Ken Adam sets and the top 10 non-Ken Adam sets. Just an idea that could allow us to include more of the many deserving sets here while still keeping the game(s) to a manageable size.

Yep, the QOS opera house is a real life existing structure.

For the Eco Hotel in QOS, and Maidens Tower in TWINE, the externals are existing but internals were done at Pinewood. I've eaten at its restaurant/bar in Istanbul so know it's very different!

That is a HUGE list! We should start with less points per candidate than usual. 10, 15 maybe?

Just updating the list with a new idea for a game: Chase scenes! I don't know why it hasn't been suggested already actually, but it is now. A classic Bondian trademark, and it deserves its own game!

Edit: Oops, now I see Car Chases has been suggested already :)) But I'll leave the New suggestion anyway, so the forum can decide if they want a game for 'Car Chases' only or 'Chase scenes' in general.

With the release of the official SPECTRE trailer within the month, I'd like to see official trailers added to the list of nominees. There are HD videos of each one except A View To A Kill and Die Another Day for which I found the best version available. List below:

    2. From Russia With Love (1963)

    3. Goldfinger (1964)

    4. Thunderball (1965)

    5. You Only Live Twice (1967)

    6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)

    7. Diamonds Are Forever (1971)

    8. Live And Let Die (1973)

    9. The Man With The Golden Gun (1974)

    10. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

    Gadgets.
  • Gadgets, let's just get it out of the way.

And if we do trailers, we'd better use the "expecting someone else?" trailer for GoldenEye.

That's one thing I had planned to ask about if it gets voted on. There are some alternative trailers and teasers that are noteworthy, but I'm not sure what criteria should determine inclusion for the game.
