Just saying: Novels only makes sense if everyone who takes part also has read all the novels and remembers enough about why he/she liked it or not. That would be tough, I have read maybe 4 or 5, and that was 20 years ago...

I think novels would be interesting as well, but as zebafish points out it could potentially exclude quite a lot of people... One should have read all of them to take part, otherwise it wouldn't be much fair...

Novels will exclude less people than video games. There are always two games running, something to please anyone. If this gets enough votes, it is not too exclusive, is it?
  • By my count, the tally is:

    Villain Deaths: II
    Gadgets: III
    Video games: I
    Novels: III

I could take part in an elimination game for the novels now; I have a very clear ranking in my mind from the last time I read them. However, I'm definitely due to reread the series, and I'm sure my opinions would change for at least three or four of them. (Time tends to do that.)

What I think would be really interesting—yet even more exclusionary—would be an elimination game for the John Gardner novels. But I'm sure there are even fewer here who have read all of Gardner's than those who have read all of Fleming's. Personally, the only two I haven't read are his novelizations for Licence to Kill and GoldenEye. And I would definitely need to reread many of them since they started to become a bit samey eventually.

I'd say start with the Fleming stories and have continuation novels at a future point.

Though would we include stories like Risico, Octopussy, QoS etc separately or include them in their anthology (For Your Eyes Only & Octopussy and the Living Daylights)?

Novels is novels. The anthologies are not novels. And stick to Fleming.

    No I want all novels
  • But has anyone here read all of the novels?? How many people would actually be able to partake in such a game (without voting for or against entries they haven't even read)?

For my own part, I haven't read Devil May Care and the novelizations of The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, Licence to Kill, GoldenEye, and Die Another Day—and to my shame, Colonel Sun, though I look forward to the day I get my hands on a copy.

If we are doing novels, we stick to Fleming of course! It would be ridiculous to force people to read all of the questionable stuff that came after...

Novels gets mye vote in the end. We can sort out the issue of who (does not) partake(s) later if necessary...

Very true. I've read a lot of the continuation novels but not all. There would be too many members who haven't read all the novels to make it viable.
All Fleming novels should be fine though.

    Time to call it.

@StirredNotShaken was the one to nominate novels. He has not been here for the last week, but does it matter who sets up the game? What say you, oh sithmaster @DarthDimi?

  • Are we just doing novels or novels and short stories?
I'd say include short stories to make up the numbers, plus the short stories are strong in their own right, I think Octopussy and QoS are both strong Bond stories, however short.
  • That seems like the best option, but I never read the novels so take that with a large grain of salt.
