minor detail... in the scene on the train, i really hope they stick with Bond wearing the white dinner jacket - hopefully with a black tie as well... haven't seen that since Roger in AVTAK... *fingers crossed* i hope it stays, always liked that look on Bond :)

    Still in there I believe

I know you love the writing on the mirror JWPepper but it seems that has been rewritten as well. Q isn't being taken as captive which I think is a positive. His capture led to a buddy movie with him and Bond trying to escape peril. Now it's Bond using his own instincts and abilities. He is now paired up with Madeleine. Much more appropriate sidekick ;)

Yeah that whole first meeting with Oberhauser has been very much streamlined (for the better)

Is the December 3th script a draft or the final shooting script? Or, are they still writing as we speak.

It's a revision of the shooting script, the second since the original Oct 17 shooting script that is widely spread around now. It's probably still going through minor revisions whole shooting but plot wise I bet that Dec 1 version is the closest we get.

Shooting scripts can go through multiple revisions while shooting so the final version is essentially the latest revision,

Is this version online? If so where and how final does it make Bond's exit at the end? I'm so worried this will be Craig's last.

Craig is signed on for Bond 25, and nothing has been said to claim otherwise... so unless something changes, he will be back at least 1 more time...

The exterior scenes of the London finale are gonna be hard to film without a lot of media attention especially if Waltz and Seydoux are on set.

Also how comes no-ones talking about Oberhauser's actual scheme?

Does anyone know for sure what
    his scheme is?
The final script has not been released, has it?

you dont need spoiler tags in this thread - it's a spoiler laden thread already...

Oberhauser's scheme is to unify and control the intelligence community through MI5 and the Nine Eyes organization, and also shut down the 00 program - with his puppet Denbigh in charge of it all.... there is no specific threat that is to occur once this happens - but it's the idea of a terrorist organization secretly in charge and in control of the world's intelligence - and with Spectre, they could cause global panic and hysteria.. a very Tammany Hall-like situation, just with global intelligence implications

I really like this. Not only is it on a larger scale compared to other schemes we've had recently but it also connects the two parallel storylines that happen during the film (Bond out in the field, M dealing with Denbigh and Nine Eye). They all start off separately and conclude at the end.

On a separate note, now that Irma has been cut, I'm really hoping we get a proper female villain/ henchwoman in Bond 25.

What is hammered into the movie is the fact that everyone is being monitored (you can expect half a dozen of close-ups onto surveillance cameras in this movie if they follow the leaked screenplays). And well, SPECTRE shows the monitoring can be used by the bad guys, even if it was put in place by the good guys. This is blockbuster subtlety, some wants "depth" in a Bond movie instead of a straightforward mission, well I guess this kind of depth is enough for them - even if it's toying dangerously with the conspiracy crowd ideas ! TND may remain the most "subtle" Bond story on such themes IMO in the end... :)

The fact Ernst knew everything about Bond's location and health in real-time thanks to the nano-blood was even a major plothole IMO in the early scripts, when he left Bond to die in the furnace - and suddenly he stopped looking at Bond's health data ! How convenient, Bond could then escape and "surprise" him later because Ernst "thought" he was dead because he left him to suffer and die but had to leave ! Wow.. months of writing for that ? The nano-blood is still in the later script, but it is far less used - in the earlier script, Ernst would torture Bond and see his pulse rate increase on his tablet, or he would use the tablet with Bond's data to try to guess if Bond was bluffing, etc.. - it is even a kind of oddity now IMO, it's here rather as something that survives from earlier scripts.

Relates directly to M's "who do trust" speech is Skyfall. Bond films are always topical, so what real life events is this scene an allegory for?

The whole surveillance aspect, Bond still hasn't touched upon that. Cap 2 handles this pretty well.
  • If this has already been mention, my apologies but I have a theory on the ending with Q. Bond goes and gets the DB5 from Q's lab right? Well, Q is there, not sitting home unemployed as was mentioned in the shooting script earlier in the movie, so shouldn't that mean back to work, business as usual for MI6 after Nine Eyes fails? Bond and Q probably have a small little conversation that lets everyone know that Mi6 and Bond are going to be back.

The surveillance/monitoring theme is a good one to focus on because at the end of the day it is happening to all of us already via our electronic handheld devices with GPS, with our cars & with the upcoming & soon to be prevalent 'internet of things'. Paranoia about this kind of thing is only going to increase in the future so this movie may end up being more relevant down the road when people look back on it.

What I find interesting is that they initially were planning to have M as the mole. That plays into the comments directly from EON in 2011 when Fiennes was cast, and they said his role would be 'darkly complex'. As I've said, there was nothing 'darkly complex' about Fiennes' role in SF. It seems to suggest that they may have always wanted him as a turncoat baddie in the back of their mind when they cast him for the role of M, and when B25 was meant to be a one-two from B24. Fiennes declining to be a bad guy in SP meant they had to contrive the Denbeigh workaround to have a suitable inside man to blame. I wonder how much screen time that took away from other plot points and characters, including Blofeld as a result and what delays it cost.

For anyone interested in the mechanics of script drafting and development, this is really, really interesting stuff, just started reading through the script and you cant help tweaking it in your head to improve it (I am sure many of us are doing this) for example, Bond reveals that he received an envelope from M, 9 months ago in his mail box. That struck me as clumsy both in terms of lack of security and also it meant Bond had access to the info before anything happened to M, it also means that there was a process that took place that we did not see and hints of the writers back tracking. The china bulldog was used as both a symbol of Britishness and a sign of the warmth that M felt for Bond. It appears in the new script in his flat so it could have had a USB stick rattling inside with a cryptic clue that only Bond would have understood (a reference to a previous movie perhaps?) for a decryption password. That way, M ensures that Bond only got access to the info on her death, the data is encrypted (not just sitting in a mail box) and the fact it was in her will and this was revealed at the end of Skyfall implies that possibly the writers had planned that sequence in advance of a way of M passing over secure info to Bond (it also gives new significance to that scene when watching Skyfall again in that Moneypenny is inadvertently launching us into the next episode as she passes it over whilst on the roof)), a small thing but, like many of us, I like looking at these small things.

Yeah! That's a simple but great idea! Better than the e-mail for sure.

I got your new copy Aaron but couldn't open it. Do you need a Dropbox account. I opened one but still can't access the link.

At the same time would negate the usual PG13 rating;)
  • I don't have the script, so can anyone comment on the violence? Are the deaths gory?

I think there was an interview with Craig a while ago where he said that Casino Royale was maybe too much, and that these are family movies, which means the violence would be toned down.

Well from the timing, it looks a lot like it was because of Fiennes' refusal that they had to call Purvis and Wade... The mail about Sam Mendes "freaking out" they could not convince Fiennes to play the bad guy is within 1 or 2 weeks of the P&W announcement IIRC.
  • Enjoyed the story more when Q was taken.
  • The Fiennes thing is another reason I think this could be the last Craig film. If that had happened as originally planned, would they really have ended up introducing another new M after this? What would be the point? Unless of course it was the last film in this universe so they wouldn't need to give Craig another new boss afterwards.

Them originally planning to have Mallory as a traitor is another sign that this could be Craig's last imo.

Blood splatters are mentioned in certain deaths but I don't know how that will pay off on screen.

One of reasons I don't want this to have Craig ending his timeline is I can't see another reboot so soon doing any good for the series.

If it is Craig's last I hope it's not the end of his Bond universe and just him passing the role over to the next actor but in the same timeline. I don't think it will Craig's last but I also hope that after Bond 25 that we get a continuation with the new 007 and not a full stop, I really don't think rebooting so soon after the series was relaunched is very healthy at all.

I'm just saying I'd prefer no more reboots for sometime yet please!

I'm glad Ralph stood fast and refused to play the villain, what a waste of what could become a real impressive run for him in the role, if this was Logan's plan then I'm glad they dropped him and bought P&W back to rescue the script. I'm beginning to believe the best aspects of Skyfall might have come from them and not Logan, something I've been suspicious of for a while when concerning Haggis on CR & QOS.
  • I don't really want it to be the last Craig film either but I think it will be. Although that's because I like Craig as Bond. I don't think another reboot will necessarily do any harm. Something in the vein of GE (doesn't have to be a similar film at all, what I mean is similar to GE in the sense that it's clearly a fresh new era but it doesn't retread the origin story, and we already have M, Q, MP, etc) would work fine imo.

I've just been sent the December script (thanks again @aaron). I'll read the full thing later but I took a peak at the ending and I think it's still clear Bond is retiring. When he throws his gun away he says to Madeline it's because "he doesn't need it anymore".

Whether it's Craig's last or not, he definetely seems to quit MI6 at the end so I'm really curious about Bond 25. My guess is that SP is the last Craig film and we'll get a soft reboot for Bond 25 but I could be wrong. If they don't do that, and bring Craig back, then I'll be interested to see jow they follow this.
