The actual age of the Bond actors during production

By AVTAK Moore looked closer to 70 than 60, his cosmetic surgery I remember being a bit of a jolt when I first watched the movie at the cinema. It did not help Moore surrounding him with a cast of elderly people, it was probably an attempt to make Moore look younger though seemed to make him look even older.

I think on the one hand they had him with older people (Macnee, Robert Brown). On the other they put him with people completely unsuitable for him (Tanya Roberts, Grace Jones etc).

I think the problem was they never attempted to acknowledge his age in the film. Bond is supposed to be the same sprightly figure from the previous films, nonetheless, we as the audience can see that Moore is well past it. So when we see Bond doing these supposed daring feats it's painfully obvious that it's not Moore and no matter how many 20-something girls he screws he looks more like their father (which is beyond creepy). Moore is badly cast as Bond in AVTAK.

It's a really embarrassing film and Moore is one of the weakest links of it. His face looks awful, in OP he looks fine but it's obvious he's had some work done inbetween. His hair looks an artificial sandy colour, his blue contact lenses are creepy and his face looks stapled behind his ears. So embarrassing.

Look at these comparison shots, in OP he looks older but still himself but by AVTAK he looks a little too plastic and odd.

Sean also looked dodgy in his last film, mainly because he had put on a some weight and his wig was styled differently. I'm not totally against the look but he didn't look quite like James Bond.

The 2010's-circa Roger Moore looks better than he did in AVTAK.

But I just remembered that Moore did 'North Sea Hijack' in... 1980? He looked much younger in that film than in MR or FYEO. Must be the beard or something...

When Bond and Tibit are fighting big Ron from EastEnders in the stables its embarrassing, then Bond miraculously becomes super agile and athletic and jumps onto a bridge. They certainly missed something not playing Rogers Bond more to his age, under Glen this was never going to happen he liked his stunts (as do I ;) ) Roger Moore's pain noise illustrated how farcical it had become.
  • One possible solution to said fight is having Moore simply shoot them both and hide the bodies.

It's also funny to realize Tom Cruise is now as old as Moore in FYEO. Very true, Cruise's wardrobe helps immensely, as it certainly would have Moore

Christ, we all know he was too old for the role at that point but he doesn't look that bad.

Interesting how the producers never really seemed to take actor age & their potential longevity into account before the casting of Daniel Craig.

Connery was cast quite late in the process after he convinced Cubby & Saltzman in an intense interview, but he had his mature looks on his side - for a then 30/31 year old he was remarkably 'vintage', and was chosen ahead of the other, much older candidates at the time.
Bond was clearly not 30 years of age in any of Flemings novels, but Connery was mature beyond his years and (obviously) pulled it off effortlessly. He made you believe that he was older and had been around quite a bit.
That was Lazenby's weakness, he was much younger (28/29, if I remember correctly) than the character was supposed to be and it showed in his performance.

Moore was cast at 45/46 and it must have been quite obvious that he would not last into the mid 80's (let's face it - he should have called it a day after FYEO and gone out on a high (not an 'all time high'...)

Dalton and Brosnan were pretty much the same age (41 ish) when they started and had at least 5-6 films in them each.

Craig looked somewhat youthful when he started at 37/38 but he's not aged particularly well, I think we can agree...?

Craig did look bloated at times certainly in the face in Skyfall, though perhaps down to his training and diet. He was also pale during certain scenes which I felt made him look older.

Connery was the same age in DN as Ben Whishaw was in SF, eh? Connery looks considerably older, more world-weary and mature.

Everyone was old before. That is why they call it the good old days.

Personally I find it hard to believe I'm the same age now that Laz was when he did OHMSS (28) and a few years younger than Connery was when he did DN (31-32).

Seeing that Creasy is 47, I always surmised that you were 123?

Moore was 45 during LALD but I swear he looked 35!
He was 50 by the time of MR and after this fourth adventure he was starting to feel he was getting too old. He looked pretty good in MR but by the time he did FYEO and OP he was going downhill fast.
His age really showed in AVTAK

As far as creepy goes, the girl who had the largest age difference with ol' Rog was Caroline Bouquet in FYEO. I think there was something like 30 years difference.

    Now that's really sick.

Being 69 yourself, you would not mind a 39 year old, would you?

But their romance was a bit more believable. Carole Bouquet looked classy and not like some pin-up model.

And BAIN123 would love a 93 year old lass.

You are spot on. I made that observation about Bouquet and Moore's age but I have to concede your point: the romance seemed so much more believable.

The first close up of Moore when he's in the iceburg sub thing in AVTAK is pretty dreadful - especially as he's with the least likely Mi6 agent around who's looking far too glamorous considering her surroundings.

Hmmm...BAIN123 is to Moore what Getafix is to Brosnan it seems.

Bond getting it on with George Best's then model partner in the iceburg submarine is very awkward to watch.

I like Moore but he's definitely hit and miss when it comes to Bond.

I just don't really believe Moore is 007 in AVTAK sadly. He's himself.

    Yep. Unlike Brosnan. ;))

I'd still place Brosnan ahead of lesser Moore.

    Different strokes for different folks.

Said Brosnan as he pissed all over Bond.

    Fair enough,

Anyway, talking about older Bond, part of this article in the Daily Mail made me laugh. I love how it uses a photo from AVTAK:

On a more serious note it seems that poor Rog has been through the mill in recent months.

Talk about beating a dead horse RE Moore's age in AVTAK...

Anyway; Daniel Craig looks well at the moment (aside from that dreadful suit and glasses he wore not so long back) and he looks in good shape for 24.

But I think they should have kept the ageing theme for Bond25 (if Craig is to stay for it) as I think it would be more appropriate.

AVTAK, as someone once said here, was very much a 'old vs new' Bond movie. The entire MI6 staff had a bigger combined age than Doctor Who's age, compared with all the Bond conquests girls and Zorin looked much younger. Plus the entire plot about Sillicon Valley, microships and stuff made Bond, M, Moneypenny, Tidbit look out of their league.

What I find so positively shocking is the fact that TLD was written in the belief that Moore could be lured into doing another--HE WOULD HAVE BEEN 60 AT THE PREMIERE
