Truth be told I've had my reservations for him ever since I saw his avatar and name. It was all to familiar.
  • Not Reveal true form... this is my real name. I am a national and play rugby and insider on Eon production. but keeping positive, plenty off Bond news coming up. YOu are among freinds here chap...

I think, when it comes down to creating a new Bond title, the creative team always have the first and final say over it. I don't believe marketeers and Sony are waiting for Michael's and Bab's head to be chopped off when they come up with a title full of, uhmm, "inuendo". Did Pickert and UA/MGM called Cubby back when they decided to use soft porn title "Octopussy"? Nah, don't worry guys, this process is save within all these brainstorm sessions of the creative team (Babs, Michael, Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and the scriptwriters).

Don't forget Licence Revoked was changed well into production due to the studio getting market research feedback that large numbers of Americans, when asked, didn't know what "revoked" meant.

I remember the day we were told the title would be changed. No one on the actual production was very happy about it, but even Barbara an Michael could not sway the studio decision. I think the title change really messed up the planned - and quite inspired - marketing campaign - artwork/posters etc - they were preparing with Licence Revoked as the title.

Thanks for that reminder, ColonelSun. It is too bad that name change necessitated so many other changes. I'd really love to see an original poster they had ready with the first planned name, Licence Revoked.

U can see the planned poster campaign, very stylish artwork of a brooding Dalton, and teaser posters in last issue of Mi6 Confidential - if they have any copies left.

Insider at EON? Poor at grammar? Troll posts? I'm entirely unconvinced.

Why are we not focusing on the tweet from the MI6-HQ twitter account? "Big news tomorrow! Tune in for an announcement that has been a long time coming"

Is this about 24? @JamesPage please give us a hint!

What's there to focus on? Possible title? That's what is being discussed.

How about we just ban it altogether, so they don't waster our time.

  • Reading through the posts from last night is disheartening. For a second it looked like StoneShi was some bullshit merchant but considering this news comes from Mi6 I suspect something big may indeed be coming tomorrow.

Something that 'has been a long time coming'....Could it be the announcement of Blofeld's return?

is the 'something big' coming today or tomorrow? I believe the tweet was from yesterday. So that makes today, right?

He posted it well after MI6 had already posted on their twitter feed.

Precisely. It should be today as the post was made late afternoon/early evening yesterday.

I'm still skeptical of Stoneshi. The tweet came yesterday at 5.15pm as I guess news could be forthcoming any second now......However, we shouldn't get our hopes up there is no indication that this news has anything to do with Bond 24. The only thing that does is StoneShi's comments. If he's right then 'Death Leaves An Echo' is a pretty great title.

Well, he's been banned, so skepticism is warranted.
I just like the title so much that I hope that bit is correct. :)

Am I the only one who thinks that "Death Leaves An Echo" sounds like a teen-fan-boy title? For good reasons Fleming decided against it.

Oh some others may agree with you, sure. I just think it's cool and appropriate. It doesn't sound fanboyish to me at all.

No, I agree with you. There's just somethong about it that makes it feel... uninspired.

Wasn't DLAE unused title for FYEO shortstory? I'm sure someone already said that. Far better than Property of a Lady .. sounds too Lifetime channel and whimpy.

No one is saying the studio create the title, that is down to the creative team, but the studio can veto titles. So what might be the producers first choice, ends up being binned in favour of the studios preferred title.

And that has never happened before. Will not happen in the future. And how do you know what the exact contract details are between MGM/Sony and Sony Pictures? Prove me if Sony/MGM really have that right.

I think this kind of vetos are really more vital when it comes down to picking an actor....or a new James Bond. Common sense between MGM/SONY and EON will always be present when choosing a title.

Pussy Galore and Octopussy must have initially kept a few studio heads up at night.

As per my Licence Revoked post earlier, studios and distribution/international sales companies are always debating a film's title (it is a hugely important decision) - and they can and will insist on a title change if they feel it won't market well, or it needs to be adjusted for certain markets. Example, The Avengers (huge studio pic) was called Avengers Assemble in the UK because of concerns the British audiences would mix it up with the cult 60's Brit tv show The Avengers.

Licence Revoked was changed just as post-production got underway.
