Without the frilly shirt and the cape, but yes, there's a definite influence. Which is good, for me at least. After all, Pertwee was my first Doctor (when BBC Prime started reairing his episodes in the 1990s). Maybe a return of venusian ju-jitsu is in order ?

I think it really suits him and I like how they've toned it down a bit from what Smith wore.

I think it'd look better if he undid the button on his coat and undid his top button.

I thought Gene Wilder in particular would have made a fantastic Doctor.

But,as with Bond,i dont think an non-British actor would be accepted to play the Doctor.

I love the thought of Vincent Price as the (3rd) Doctor. Irrespective of Price's nationality, I think he would have made a superb Doctor.

There are one or two really good choices on that list.

(There are also some hideous ones mind you).

There are, I agree. Along with Price, Goldblum and Shaloub also could have made interesting Doctors.

Tony Shaloub would be an inspired choice. Great thinking Willy.

I am quite sure that a US version would suck majorly, anytime they have a decent scifi show they are able to muck it up.

    Latest rumour...
Smith is coming back in a cameo at some point in series 8. Furthermore, he will be sporting his original tweed jacket.

Don't get me wrong, I think Smith was a fantastic Doctor, but it's a bit soon to bring any doctor back, even in a cameo.

If this is the recorded dialogue, I have no problem with it. As for a cameo, I'm not sure what to think. I'd rather him come back now as opposed to later, if I'm honest.

I signed it, as I find the 8th Doctor brilliant and he needs some more televised airtime

I would not mind seeing McGann again at some point, but for the time being, I'd rather Moffat put all his DW focus onto getting the Capaldi era up and running.
  • I reckon if there is a Matt Smith cameo, it will be in the first episode. I think the new doctor will take Clara back to before the christmas episode, so she can say a proper good bye to him.

Samuel Anderson is new recurring character Danny Pink:

    p01ssb4r.jpg

Samuel Anderson (The History Boys, Gavin & Stacey, Emmerdale) is set to join the cast of Doctor Who as a recurring character in series 8, which will also introduce Peter Capaldi as the Doctor to millions of viewers for the first time. Anderson will play Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) also teaches.

On joining the show Samuel Anderson said: ‘I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!’

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, added: ‘For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who!’

Filming recently began on episode 4 of the new series which will co-star Robert Goodman (Gangs of New York, Game of Thrones) and episode 5, co-starring Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch, Groove High), and Pippa Bennett-Warner (The Smoke, Death in Paradise).
  • Bet he'll be Clara's boyfriend.

    I don't.

It has already been done - many times.

True but they could do it differently. With Noel Clarke and Rory it was "he's going out with the girl but she fancies the doctor, not him" (although they did change this with Rory). I doubt they'd take that approach again now since Jenna Coleman is in her 20s and Capaldi is pushing 60.

The soundtrack for "An Adventure in Space and Time" is just out today, and of course, I bought it on iTunes. Here's an extract :
