The Most Loved Bond Endings

  • Thunderball was the first Bond film I ever saw as a young kid, and that ending when Bond and Domino flew away via the balloon was the coolest thing I'd ever seen up to that point. Then Star Wars came out, lol.

To be truthful it was the stupidest thing I'd seen, (hitherto seen in the early releases) although Connery once again, did appear ridiculous with the jet-pack in the pre title sequence (which was maybe more absurd). Maybe all I can recognize Connery for was his sometimes immaculate portrayal of the character and the no-nonsense of his first two adventures, but once he emerged from the water with the duck on head early in Goldfinger, things started to fall away a little..

Most favorited Bond endings while we're dropping by

    #5 Casino Royale

I'm halfway in between here, yeah it was kinda cool, but also a bit strange... Bond, okay, but Domino? Can you say whiplash? And unlike flying with Superman, I can't imagine it would be warm enough for any reason... :))

I like to think Bird One was under them about to swallow them from under the sea. :))

No way anything could ever top CR and OHMSS
Also, am I the only one who loves the sinking house?

No I Ioved the sinking house too. After years of excessive Brosnan "Bond vs. a Private Army" climaxes I really enjoyed a more small scale and personal final battle. They obviously couldn't do an exact replica of the book's ending due to audience expectations but I think they found a perfect medium.

exactly! i even dare to say it's better than Vesper's literary demise. Since Vesper is the one who makes Bond into the cold bastard he is, and in the book we just wake up to find her dead. In the movie, however, I like that they make it more traumatic for Bond.

Very true. Bond simply walking in on a dead Vesper and reading a note might work on the written page but cinematically it seriously lacks punch and would stand as very anti-climactic. They chose the right ending. Bond actually having to watch Vesper die goes alot further in explaining his cold-blooded attitude towards his job and women.
  • If we're talking about the ending scenes only: (OHMSS honorable mention)
    #6: Diamonds Are Forever
Uncle Sean's final scene and it's cliche and perfect.

    #5: Skyfall
After a ton of "atypical" shit Skyfall's ending gives me goosebumps at the prospect to truly returning to form.

    #4: The Living Daylights
Touching and perfect. This could be bias as I love Kara and Bond together.

    #3: Live and Let Die
Perfect. An awesome fight with Tee Hee, Bond gets cozy with the lady, and McCartney's theme fires up as Samedi laughs.

    #2: From Russia With Love
Munro's song really seals this last scene for me. This is one of my favorite scenes in any Bond film ever. It just feels SO Bond.

    #1: Casino Royale
Self-explanatory. Best Bond ending ever for me. Period. This'll never be topped.

I agree. They didn't give him very best duck.

Funniest thing I have read all day. That was the one stupid thing in an otherwise perfect PTS.

I absolutely loved the Casino Royale ending. White takes a bullet into the knee, the music strikes up as he crawls up the steps, closely followed by a pair of shoes belonging to you know who!!! And then DC utters the immortal line for the first time! And then cue end credits and music! Brilliant! Always gets me every time! :-bd
  • I love the ohmss end car scene - so funny

Also, am I the only one who loves the sinking house?

Don't love it, but don't work myself into a lather of rage about it the way so many do.

Yet another reason GF is way oversold. Almost as silly as the Tarzan Yell, the Slide Whistle in Gun, and California Girls in AVTAK.

I think I'm the only one who loved the duck. It's a perfect espionage tool. In the video game Metal Gear Solid 3, you have to sneak into a Russian compound and one of the items you can get is a crocodile cap. You can swim right up to the enemy and they wouldn't be able to tell. Much like the croc sub in Octopussy. It might be silly in a movie, But if your sneaking around in the water, It's pretty useful.

I think people get too worked up about the duck head. It was a silly gag that lasted for only a few seconds. It doesn't ruin the entire PTS.

Definitely. It's a bit silly, but it makes sense (unlike the Tarzan yell or the bondola) and it's part of the greatest PTS in the series, which is the pure distillation of James Bond. Surely we can forgive a duck hat when later in the scene Bond goes from a wetsuit to a tuxedo without missing a beat.

    Some I like:

    CR
    SF
    OHMSS
    TSWLM
    FRWL
    TWINE
    QOS
    LALD

I think that SF ended perfectly. With the classic office and all.
  • 1) DN The first Bond film I saw in 1962 having read the novel in 1958 2) FRWL, the second Bond film I saw in 1963.

LALD: Weird, funny and a bit wicked
    CR: Open and cocky
OHMSS: Lazenby just parted ways with the series, and Bond can't be married. It would be... THE END. Fortunately, it wasn't.
    TSWLM: Pure fun
FYEO: Stupid, but I love it for reasons that go beyond cinematic issues.

    My Top (00)7 Bond Endings:
    #1: Casino Royale
So well done. First it's all so bleak with Vesper's death and the feeling of little having been accomplished as Bond speaks to M. Then the music becomes suspenseful and ominous, as Bond discovers the shady Mr. White's number. Then the beautiful scenery of Mr. White admiring his estate, the call from Bond, the shot to the leg, and the perfectly timed 'Bond... James Bond...' from Craig to solidify himself as 007. Unbelievably great.
#2: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
The saddest ending of them all. It was bold and unique to have Bond not getting the girl, and much more since he loses his only true love. Lazenby's acting in the scene is terrific, from his blissfulness to being with Tracy to the utter heartbreak and denial of Bond's character. Truly one of the most impacting and important scenes of the series.
    #3: Skyfall
Right before the last scene, we get a great, final emotional scene from Judi Dench's M. Which was perfect because the ending goes from bitter to bittersweet, kind of like CR. Ralph Fiennes established as M was the icing on the cake after an awesome, throwback office scene. Great way to end a great Bond film that culminates 50 years of the franchise.
    #4: Quantum of Solace
This whole film is underrated, but the ending does get respect from most. Bond finally gets a Quantum member in custody, and the audience is satisfied to hear Greene is killed as well (Bond's sly "Wish I could help" fit so well too). Both the confrontation between Bond and Yusef and the final talk between Bond and M were very well done. The line "I never left" followed by dropping the necklace in the snow was spectacular; I just love the entire last 25-30 minutes of the film a lot.
    #5: Live and Let Die
Just when you thought it was over, Bond has to do battle with Tee Hee once more. Since Tee Hee was my favorite villain from the film it was excellent; how could you go wrong with a train fight in Bond anyway? Tee Hee's arm being his downfall was great; the whole sequence was a fun, fitting way to end Moore's first Bond film. And how could we forget the grin-inducing, final laugh of Baron on the train?
    #6: Diamonds Are Forever
DAF was Connery's weakest film, but the end was possibly the best part. Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd finally get their just desserts by getting blown up and catching on fire. I just love it; almost all the Connery films simply end with Bond with the girl after all the conflict, but DAF snuck in a hilarious, awesome last action scene. Despite it not being one of the better Bond films, the last scene of it is still worthy of Mr. Connery.
    #7: GoldenEye
Just very satisfying and fun; terrific way to cap of Brosnan's great Bond film. "For England, James?" "No. For me." I just love that; Alec's death and Bond jumping to the helicopter to escape gives me chills every time. Also got to love Boris's last scene.
