2. Daniel Craig

2. Sean Connery
3. Pierce Brosnan
4. Timothy Dalton/George Lazenby (only because they have had less films, therefore less chance to 'grow into the role'

2. George Lazenby 2.5 out of 5
3. Roger Moore 3 out of 5
4. Tim Dalton 3 out of 5
5. Pierce Bronson 4 out of 5
6. Daniel Craig 4 out of 5
Lazenby 3.5 - Decent one and only appearance for the australian
Moore 3 - Good Bond but over emphasis on humor more often than not simply weighed him down
Dalton 4.5 - Two appearances, Two superlative performances. Apart from Connery in From Russia With Love, as close to Flemings original character that you will find
Brosnan 2.5 - Maybe as far detached from the James Bond character than any other. Good actor all round, but it didn't quite work for 007 for me
Craig 3.5 - It's a choice between him and Connery for second place but the Scot gets it. Became less agressive last year and more humor evident than before, but he has done well
1) Dalton (5/5. Nailed it from day one. Closest to the literary Bond and brilliant as a cold blooded killer with a caring, emotional side, but he also had all the usual film Bond staples, humour, gadgets, etc).
2) Moore (5/5, played his Bond perfectly, I just prefer Daltons)
3) Connery/Brosnan (4.5/5. Connery was the original and could handle humour, brutality, anything. Brosnan bought suave to a whole new level and his cocky, cool action hero Bond was always great fun to watch. Can't choose between them)
4) Craig (4/5. Fantastic actor and brings some emotion to the part but I think his performances have been a bit inconsistent. In SF there was some great humour but he'd lost his brutality and the casino fight in particular felt too comedic for his Bond)
5) Lazenby (3.5/5. Did well for a first time actor and was brilliant in the final scene, he also bought an everyman quality that no other Bond has had and was probably the best fighter of the lot, but some of his lines felt flat and wooden)

I recently realized that if you have this ranking, all the "he's the 2nd best Bond" talk with each actor is actually accurate at the time (if not long lasting).
2. Roger Moore
3. Timothy Dalton
4. Sean Connery
5. Daniel Craig
6. George Lazenby
1. Connery
2. Moore
3. Pierce Brosnan
4. Daniel Craig

6. Timothy Dalton
2. Connery
3. Dalton
4. Lazenby
5. Moore
6. Brosnan (lacked the balls for Bond)
I think Daniel Craig is a great actor. He has many years ahead of him to do some fine work, but to say that he has coolness that even Sean Connery lacks...well to quote a line from Goldfinger and now Skyfall..."You must be joking."
2. ROGER MOORE who could infuse more humour elements made almost feel us nearer to Connery's depiction of Bond in his The Spy Who Loved Me
3. GEORGE LAZENBY who spoiled his own career by misguidence, otherwise by physique he could have proved as an alternative to Connery
4. Timothy Dalton of course for bringing back Connery's seriousness if not the charm
5. Pierce Brosnan though confused of whether to follow Connery for toughness or Moore for his elite looks and humor
6. Daniel Craig suffers from his limitations of height and stature for a Bond actor. However, above hip he enacts Bond but the sentiments and his dramatized acting with over emotions and reactions makes one feel that the Bond character is getting eroded. He can be either a Jason Bond or a James Bourne!
1. Craig-Modern
2.Brosnan-Less Modern
3.Dalton-Slightly modern
4.Moore-Did to many films
5.Connery-The first Bond
6.Lazenby-Had no acting experience and only did one film if he did like 4 he would be higher.
Here goes:
1. Connery
2. Dalton
3. Craig
4. Moore
5. Brosnan
6. Lazenby
2: Craig = Lazenby (though if pressed I would likely place Craig above Lazenby)
3: Connery
4: Moore
5: Austin Powers
6: Brosnan
Dalton
Connery
Brosnan
Moore
Lazenby
My new criteria is Bond gravitas. Who is most convincing in the role. Or who measures up best to Sean.
1. King Sean
2. Craig
3. Laz
4. Moore
5. Dalts
6. Broz
I have elevated Craig ahead of even Laz, because he does bring a gravitas. He doesn't quite look the part but he still finds the character and with gravitas.
Laz is just a notch below due to a little less gravitas.
Moore I rank ahead of Dalts, as I thought Dalts overplayed Bond's human side somewhat. I prefer Rog's more unflappable approach.
1. Timothy Dalton
2. Daniel Craig
3. Sean Connery
4. George Lazenby
5. Pierce Brosnan
6. Roger Moore
2. Craig
3. Dalton
4. Moore
5. Lazenby
6. Brosnan
Ranking aside, I can find something to like about each of these actors. It's part of what makes this such a great series!
1. King Sean; the gold standard
2. Laz, the very worthy stand-in
3. The unflappable Rog
4. The engaging Dalts
5. The earnest Broz
6. the blue snuggers
Sorry, I am not a Craig fan. :-<
1. Brosnan (me fave/childhood Bond)/Connery (the best)
2. Dalton
3. Moore
4. Craig
5. Lazenby
I'll go into each actors rankings another time......
2. Connery - The most well rounded Bond. I think he possesses all the characteristics of the cinematic Bond. His first 4 films are pure gold.
3. Dalton - I love darker side of Bond and Dalton's intensity. A refreshing new take on Bond after Moore's era of camp.
4. Brosnan - Brosnan embodies the suave, charming, good looking Bond better than anyone else. Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, his tenure was sullied by the quality of his films.
5. Lazenby - If he wasn't part of such a great film, he probably would be overlooked more than he is now.
6. Moore - Most of what I dislike about the Bond franchise occurred during Moore's tenure. His 12 years as Bond are really just a blur to me.
Black marks for GOLDFINGER and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE you say..."You must be joking." We can separate DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER from the other two for now, as that film is an entirely different conversation. Maybe you can explain yourself a little better, so I can get an idea of where you are coming from. Cheers! :)>-
Sean Connery
Daniel Craig
Roger Moore
Timothy Dalton
Pierce Brosnan*
George Lazenby
* :( I don't want to put him this low but upon reflection, while he did get me into Bond and had some cool moments, his films (bar GE) are fairly forgettable and range from average to terrible.

Never heard of them before, but apparently they are one of the "most accurate" polling companies (I'll take it with a pinch of salt, unless someone can verify this).
Their rankings are -
1st Connery - 62%
2nd Moore - 14%
3rd Brosnan - 8%
4th Craig - 6%
5th Dalton - 2%
6th Lazenby - 0%
Not sure - 8%
I'm not a ranker (ho ho) as some of you may know, but I'm always interested in these kind of polls, more so than the skewed film magazine/web polls. Interesting to note Brozzer in third and happy to see Roger in second.
