We will 2026 we be the year of amazon bond news!
Let's hope so! I'm feeling a Bond drought lately. We need our hero back. :)
With 27 films to entertain us, I don’t feel that Bond is ever far away.
If you’re waiting for News, then it’s a long way off.
If you’re not waiting for news, it could be just around the corner.
Wanting something to happen isn’t going to make it happen any sooner.
Logically speaking, I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t learn more in 2026.
Bingo. Amazon are being very deliberate. It doesn't seem like they are moving onto the next step before the previously one has been completed. They have all the money in the world, there's no need to rush this.
Very well said, @Benny. Couldn't have said it any better.
And if 2026 brings no news, what then? Concern, or relief? My early worry was that Amazon might try to squeeze the franchise for all it’s worth with a flood of series, spin-offs, and hastily assembled films built from familiar clichés and Bondian formulas. They may still choose that route, but for now they’re proving those fears unfounded. Perhaps this slower pace is a sign that they truly care about quality over sheer output. That's my hope, at least.
It's not worth being too panicky over any of this though. We know we're getting Bond related stuff in 2026, at least if you're a gamer. A Bond film is in the works whatever way, but we know it's not going magically crop up in 2026. Most rumours have been saying since early this year it'll be a 2028 release anyway. I don't see any reason as of now that that's unlikely, but of course we'll know at some point whatever way when we'll get this film.
Yes. You can’t have top talent waiting around on pay or play deals forever (this is expensive and there are drop dead dates baked into these contracts). From the producers to the writer and director, they have already lined up their next few projects.
We will certainly hear things in the new year. Who knows when (I guesstimate spring to early summer, giving Knight almost a calendar year to get the script in fighting shape before he hands it off for auditions (there’ll be more rewrites, but once the main guy is cast)…
Funnier things have happened, but I don’t think there’s much of a chance 2026 comes and goes without significant movement (unless Amazon decides to shelve the project and start from scratch; but if it’s Knight, Villeneuve, Heyman and Pascal, there will forward progress as this isn’t the only one big project each has in development; they have to get a move-on).
This seems reasonable and plausible… 🤞🏻
I agree.
Erik Messerschmidt has been hired as cinematographer on Matt Reeves' The Batman: Part 2. Replacing Greig Fraser, who shot the first film and is currently shooting Sam Mendes' Beatles films, likely until (at least) late next year. Fraser also lensed the first two Dune films...
The Beatles film seems like the obvious conflict that prevented GF from returning to Batman, but given that he's worked with DV on high-profile studio projects and he doesn't have anything else scheduled after this (that we're aware of), could it be possible that Villeneuve will bring him onto Bond when it eventually shoots?
That makes complete sense for The Batman Part 2. Messerschmidt has worked for David Fincher a few times on Mindhunter, The Killer, and Mank so I can see him doing an admirable job of emulating the first film's aesthetic. Tough act to follow though. The cinematography of The Batman is excellent.
As for Bond, I can easily imagine the return of Linus Sandgren, but I don't know how Fraser's schedule would look. If he could do it I'd be excited.
Likely to prevent clashing with Avengers: Doomsday.
2026, you mean.
According to Jeff Sneider, Callum Turner is “director Denis Villeneuve’s top choice” to play the part of James Bond. He notes that no offer has actually been made to Turner, but signs are pointing in his direction in a more concrete way than any of the other rumored actors.
I'm not against Turner. I actually think him, Elordi and Dickinson would all have a very similar take on Bond. The only apprehension about him is that - out of those three - he is the weakest actor. Undeniably, he has as great look. He looks like a movie star from the 1940s and I can immediately see James Bond in him. I am sure @Denbigh is excited about this development.
Also, he looks so hot in his new movie, Eternity - which incidentally, I hear great things about.
Definitely seems a good choice. I would be happy with that.
The usual 'Craig hating' suspects are having a meltdown on social media about him. Which also encourages me to really hope he gets it! :D
"I'll just be at my desk cleaning my gun and pouring whisky from my decanter."
"Sorry Elliot, I tuned out there for a moment."
"So you want me to be half monk, half hitman?"
"TANNER!"
I suppose someone will now say that he looks like Connery because of his big ears. ;)
Right now I think it does seem to be his to lose. I think it might have been @Denbigh who first championed him on here...?
That's the one thing a lot of them were focussing on with some cruel comments.
They seem to want a Brosnan/Cavill clone as Bond. As long as he 'looks the part' acting ability seems unimportant to these dimwits...
Yeah I find it really frustrating that some folks out there just want to cast a photograph as Bond.
There is absolutely nothing wrong, or " dimwitted" with wanting an actor who " looks the part.
Obviously whether he does or doesn't depends on personal preferences.
I've said in the past he's one of the more likely choices and would be one of my guesses for who'd be Bond. I think he could be very good too and has what it takes. I also think as much as it wouldn't be a surprise on these forums, his casting would be intriguing for general audiences, so I don't buy this idea that he's not an exciting choice. As much as Dickinson and Elordi are excellent actors, my instinct is Turner would suit Bond better and has much more that I associate with the character - the right confidence/charisma, sense of masculinity, physicality etc. He's got the right level of experience and is established as an actor without being tied to any other big character/franchise. Moreover he's a good actor with the potential to bring something different to Bond. Offscreen/as a representative of the franchise he seems likeable. I have a much easier time seeing him in the role than many other names.
But I think it's all early days stuff. Villeneuve may have his picks, the producers their own choices, and executives at Amazon may well have names they've brought up. I'm sure the process will give us the right man whatever way, but I'd be very happy with Turner.
Yes, but it'll be the preference of those casting the role in this case ;)
Anyway, I'm sure we'll get the typical nonsense about his looks online if he were cast. Any actor will get that frankly. I don't see an issue with him. He's a good looking guy (a model in fact) with that sense of ruggedness that comes with age.
Blimey, if those are big ears then we're all doomed! :D
