Incorrect @Escalus5 :
Many passes on LW1 the most notable being by Jeffrey Boam (dialogue and action).
The long Kiss Goodnight was revised/doctored by Carrie Fischer (yes, her), and Renny Harlin.
However, you are correct about KKBB; but there were still producer notes that Shane Black basically took and worked himself as his own script doctor using these notes. This is a little unique as this wasn’t a tent pole film (which you’ll see I was talking about above), and it was a smaller budget created by the writer/director.
So as I said, tentpole films in the last 60 years, including ones written by Shane Black, have been doctored by many writers. These are how large tent pole films have been made, and it isn’t going away any time soon.
Take a look my friend:
I don’t know that I would frame what was described as “butting heads”, but language is fluid and, at times, imprecise. I’m not surprised or worried that two creatives with strong visions and styles and opinions spend hours disagreeing or debating or advocating or tweaking each other’s work. That’s the process. That’s what it’s like working with a writing partner. The benefit being that each pushes the other to go deeper or wider or make things simpler or make things more complex.
I’d be worried if two incredibly talented and capable creatives didn’t have disagreements on how to interpret a popular character that’s been around for seventy years. I’m sure there are things they like, dislike and always wanted to see.
This is the first post-Broccoli Bond film. There’s every opportunity to make this the definitive Bond film for a new era in the franchise. If it doesn’t work, they’ll own all of it. That’s an incredible amount of pressure. But Bond, to me, is worth it. And, I believe, they think so too.
THIS.
Agreed, friend. I hardly think one (or either) of them would have landed the gig if there was a core disagreement about the overall vision for the film.
My best guess is that the producers + Amazon have a vision for the 'type' of Bond film they want to reinvigorate the franchise, Denis agreed with that and came up with a more specific pitch within those parameters which earned him the Directing job, and then Stephen Knight said "Yeah, I like all of this, I can work with it" before signing on as a writer to work on a first draft script.
I think we're even lucky Amazon are announcing things. They could easily have waited for Villeneuve to finish Dune, before announcing him and Knight.
We have competent producers, a director and a writer working on it.
You're really forcing the negativity.
@Mendes4Lyfe are you seriously expecting weekly updates as to the progress of Bond 26?
We're a way off from that. That sort of thing happens when filming is underway.
You're quoting @peter here, and his guess as to what might be happening behind closed doors. So what if it's been 7 months of Amazon having control.
We have a writer and director. I can never understand how or why you think that there is a pattern to how these films should work, or that there is a timetable as to where we should be according to your crystal ball.
If by next week we have the Bond actor announced, you'll be posting that it's full steam ahead, if it's crickets, you'll be posting that it going to be one long road ahead, buckle up.
You need to take a breath, calm yourself. Things will happen when they happen. Wanting them to, expecting them to and most of all looking for patterns in the past to make things happen in your head are not helping. You or anyone else.
Well said ! YES to both sets of ideas !
