I sincerely hope so. TBH, one of my concerns is Amazon structuring the film like a DC or Marvel film rather than Bond. No gunbarrel or Binder style title sequence. Instead the title and all credits saved for the end with a post credits scene teasing the next film. No traditional title song either. Most movies today don't really do that.
I do believe without the Broccoli family at the helm, Amazon's series could do things differently. The general movie public probably wouldn't be bothered by this. They're used to modern franchise films. In addition, it's been so long since we got new Bond films regularly, most of the younger audiences wouldn't have experienced a traditional Bond in the cinema.
My feeling is if they do go for a young Navy Bond origin story, for instance I'm not counting on an Eon structured Bond film with Amazon. I think it will play more like MAN OF STEEL or BATMAN BEGINS.
I also think audiences will be perfectly fine with that. But will I?
I think Amazon will keep everything that reminds us of James Bond. They know what Bond fans think of them and they know they have to win us over. So I think at this point, our concern should be...the call-backs shouldn't be much. But it's still a good concern to have, than the film not looking like a Bond film.
That was the trap the Craig films fell into, once they introduced continuity they were sort of stuck with it, and ended up painting themselves into a corner.
And if they are sticking with a heavy continuity, why even have a gunbarrel or Title sequence at that point? Aren't they a bit redundant, as the stories aren't really much like a traditional Bond adventure.
Theoretically, if the first film would end with Bond entering the 00 program the following, which would probably be three years later, would pick up as an agent, in the field and could be a relatively stand alone story, much as was Dr. No.
Or whatever you care to call it 🙄 Lol
I just want to see Bond in his prime again. Daniel is my favourite Bond, but I felt like we spent most of his era seeing him either become Bond or reclaim his status.
I want to see Bond #7 at his best from film one
I completely agree. I love Craig's era, I grew up with it but it'll be 20 years since Casino Royale next year. Which to its credit, he gets his 00-licence after a short PTS that very efficiently sets it up. For the new era let's just hit the ground running.
We would call it ‘the 00 programme’ :D
You could also say you don't pay a billion for something you're not going to use.
My guess is that we'll get the trad elements, just given a new spin.
Who actually runs James Bond now?
And I do mean who, not what (Amazon MGM).
For the last 30 years it has definitively been Broccoli and Wilson. And if there are any issues, the buck stops with them. They can't just walk away and let someone else deal with it. They owned it. It was their responsibility, and they were the final backstop.
Under Amazon, that now becomes a lot less clear.
Is there a 'Head of James Bond IP' at Amazon MGM that we are unaware of? A person, or set of people, that have ultimate control and steer over where this goes?
Pascal and Heyman are responsible for the next film. But they're only hired in help. If they have major disagreements, either or both can leave the project with no real responsibility towards having to fix it, unlike Broccoli and Wilson. Villeneuve and Knight - they're all hired in, though as director and writer respectively, so their position is slightly different in that they can be replaced if need be (and under EoN, such replacement has happened before).
If Bond 26 is a huge success... do Pascal and Heyman stay on? If it fails... do they get moved on and others try? Who makes these decisions. Presumably there is someone... it cant be just the Head of the Studio, James Bond is too much of an IP to be handled in that way.
Not that I want any of this to all fall apart or fail... but if it does... who picks up the responsibility for it and to resolve it?
Yeah, true. They will retain those things and give it their own spin. Maybe the title sequence/theme song immediately opens the film, then the gunbarrel closes the film. Although, Amazon might play it safe and do it the traditional way...as they don't have EON's luxury yet...because fans are still waiting to be won over, by Amazon's James Bond.
Trump announces 100% tariff on foreign-made movies
He did promise earlier, that James Bond has nothing to worry about...because Sean Connery was a friend of his, that used his star power to secure him his golf course in Scotland or something like that.
Whether it happens or not, the threat of it is too big to ignore.
Well, as so often with these things, the question of whether it will actually happen is almost secondary to the question whether the threat of it will have manifest consequences even when it doesn't go through in the end.
What I mean by that is that everyone in the business of producing films no matter whether they believe this may become reality or not will have a sitdown and think about what would happen if it would, what their exposure is and how they can potentially reduce that.
Many will probably say the likelihood that they'll ever have to pay tariffs on films is so low, we aren't going to do anything, but in reality someone will think "well, if it's between London and Atlanta, let's just go with Atlanta to be on the safe side here". That's how these threats work.
However, I can't see the Bond26 team buckling to that.
If anything Amazon would welcome this, as they have to wait for Denis anyway, so if anything they will be happy knowing their hands are tied anyway.
Plus I suspect they are waiting for Dickinson to be done filming The Beatles, so it's likely production won't happen until 2027 anyway.
I don't really follow the logic there. I can't imagine they want uncertainty at all, no company wants that.
