EDIT: As Bond.
Nice theory, but no one knows what Bond is or going to be.
that doesn’t me he doesn’t know…
No idea who it'll be. As I've said I think they'll go a bit more established than unknown, but at the same time I'm prepared for any curveball. I personally like Callum Turner as well and think he'd be a really good Bond.
Agreed they must have some kind of list, but, I truly think the script won’t be written for any one actor at the moment. I have a feeling it will be executed first and foremost on the tone that has been agreed upon by the creatives.
Establish the tone— which they’ve obviously done and DV’s pitch has hit the mark.
The script is developed with this tone running through every line, ever piece of dialogue, every motive of all of the characters.
Then cast the actor that best suits this tone.
Rewrites after casting will continue to sculpt the script for the chosen man.
I suppose you get situations where writers/directors claim they had at least the 'idea' of a specific actor. I'm thinking of Matt Reeves envisioning a sort of Kurt Cobain type Batman as Robert Pattinson, so being drawn to him for the part when writing it. Doesn't mean that example or Bond 26 was/is being written for any specific actor (ultimately casting is casting, and an actor will be found even if it’s not that specific actor the writer may have envisioned). So yeah, I agree, at this stage it's more important to get that script and characterisation of Bond rather than tailoring too specifically for any actor.
I would also say don't forget about Josh O'Connor, I think he's a distinct possibility. Dickinson, Turner and O'Connor are the ones right up there to my mind. I guess Hoult remains a possibility too.
Anyway, I’m just waiting for any surprise (or anti climax). Part of me gets a weird feeling it’ll end up being ATJ, although another part says it definitely won’t!
I would really be surprised if ATJ gets it.
So far the choices Amazon have made are elite.
ATJ just doesn’t scream elite talent. Not even close. His name/CV/ talent seemingly isn’t the piece of the puzzle that fits the rest of the creative team.
I have no idea who it could be, but ATJ doesn’t have the pedigree of the producers and director and writer. All seem to play in the gritty and commercial sandboxes and ATJ isn’t gritty, nor does he have that charisma and charm of a leading man. Craig may’ve played in smaller films, but he always seemingly had the talent of a character actor, with the charisma of a leading man. ATJ, as has been said, is usually exceptional at being forgettable. I’ve never seen him light the screen up, and he’s been plenty of years in this business!
I could be wrong on him but when I look at what we have thus far, Pascal makes sense, as does Heyman, and combined they make an incredible creative duo. DV makes sense, and combined with his producers, it really is an envious team. And now Knight has been added. It really is mind blowing.
Does ATJ make sense with the team that’s already been assembled? I don’t think so. And maybe one day soon, I’ll hafta eat my words, but I just don’t see it. Not after all these years of seeing this actor quickly fade from memory.
I can see Theo James too.
I think it's a question of whether the actor can star in a Villeneuve film. I mean, the right level of fame and talent.
Huh?
Honestly, I agree. Although I do think despite his shortcomings I have an easier time seeing ATJ getting it than other lower profile actors. But ultimately it just comes down to that suspicious voice at the back of my head telling me it’s not impossible, however unlikely!
But I’m curious. Would you see any of the so called candidates with this directorial/writing/producing team?
@Univex I could definitely see Elordi or Harris Dickinson in a DV vehicle; I like Callum Turner a lot! (shout out to @Denbigh ), but I can’t see him as easily in a DV film.Dunno why.
Saying that, I am, and have, happily resigned and willingly submit to this creative team on who they will eventually choose... They’re doing a damn fine job thus far, and I have no reason to believe that the casting will be any different!
I’m in the same state of mind, my friend. Full trust in this team. And very happy for it. Elated, really. Good to be on the same page, as always ;)
Norton portrayed one of the great villains of British television in Happy Valley’s Tommy Lee Royce. The character he helped create – charming, psychopathic, but in glimpses vulnerable, too – is what he does perfectly. His roles often strike a nerve because they wrestle with the pressures and flaws of modern masculinity.
And then there's this, about his role in upcoming Netflix drama House of Guinness:
These days, he thinks he has acquired the age and experience to perform a darkly magnetic character such as Rafferty. “And it felt great,” he says. “Because it taps into that alter ego of who you’d love to be. He’s violent, but he’s romantic, too. There’s a thug in all of us.”
Imagine him bringing a little of that to Bond...
Oh, and House of Guinness just so happens to be written by Steven Knight...
Bit tired of the thug Bond, though. Tired of thugs in general. Not a fan of the “bruit in a suit” approach to Bond. I’d rather have the gentleman spy who can do some jujitsu.
