Floating off into the great beyond.

    The conference looks very cinematic

Bond just got the very best duck.

    Score sounds incredible.

One of the most romantic themes.

    R.I.P OO7

    Great underwater photography as always.

    Special delivery... Commander Bond.

You Only Live Twice first time watch 4K remaster... lets go!!!

UA logo I grew up with followed by a very high pitched gun barrel theme.

This pre title sequence always captured my imagination as a kid, amazing score as the pod is in space. The various shots blend together better with HDR.

    Chills.

The speed of the models in space are what sells this scene.

Feeling compelled to constantly rewind scenes.

Two of my favorite Barry musical pieces are in YOLT: "Capsule In Space" and "Mountains And Sunsets." Sublime.

Yeah, Connery had kinda checked out by this point (though still quite good IMO), but there are so many good things about YOLT (i.e., Freddie Young's camera work, Ken Adam's sets, etc..), that I tend to forget that and just lose myself in the film.

Plus, what other film in the series has Bond training in a place that GODZILLA destroyed just a few short years before! :))

    Enjoy.

Bond got the password Moneypenny lol

Fantastic external shots in this film.

Sumo scene looks very sharp, Aki meets Bond.

I probably should have watched this first in 4K and do a comments on my second watch, I am getting engrossed.

True Connery had checked out compared to his other films, still very good though. Definitely one of Barry's best Bond scores, most of them are top tier, the two tracks you mentioned I played on repeat as a kid and still do.

Henderson asks Stirred not shaken is that right? Bond reply's Yes, I have always liked that attention to detail and etiquette.

Henderson may have ended up being one of Bond's best allies.

The fight in Osato's offices is intense, Bond's weapon of choice a sofa.

The screenplay for this film is excellent what I would do for a script of this quality today.

YOLT has always been a mixed bag for me some scenes with the reprojection look rough some scenes are astonishingly cinematic and stunning to look at.

Kobe docks is fun, this film still feels very fresh even though its probably the most ripped off film in the series.

Never trust a red head Bond.

The scenes on Tanaka's island are some of the best shot in the series, the 4K remaster is breath taking. The remastered sound in Dolby Atmos is picking up so much detail on the island wildlife etc. The fight choreography is superb in this film light years ahead of TMWTGG, Tanaka's island out does SPECTRE island, Tigers Q lab looks amazing also..

Little Nellie aerial shots wow, everybody buy this 4K remaster now. lol

Aki and Bond have great chemistry.

Aki's death very atmospheric and a well played out scene, the lighting and music is perfection.

Bond's disguise fails with two immediate attempts on his life.

Connery still looks the part in this film until he wears the disguise which does him no favor's though I go along with it.

Bond to get married, i recall the back story with the actress which I won't type here.

The ceremony is heaven on earth amazing views, I am in awe of the cinematography.

The volcano set is inspired, watching this on the big screen must have been mind blowing.

I have not commented much on what is going on, I am too engrossed in how the film looks and sounds.

No 4K, but your YOLT comments make we want to re-watch the film soon @Fire_and_Ice_Returns. Thanks.

As for the actresses' backstory; it's been fairly well-documented. What I don't recall ever reading, however, is how Akiko Wakabayashi and Mie Hama were originally cast for YOLT. Not complaining, but I've always been curious about that process. Did the audition? What other actresses were looked at (if any)?

Given the timeframe and knowing a bit about how the studio system worked in Japan at that time, I can make some educated guesses, but nothing solid. Somewhere on these discussion threads I recall posting a 2017 NY Times interview with Ms. Hama. If you want, I can re-post it here.

Until then: "Tell him to come below and report!"

    Belter of a theme song!
I remember my older brother hearing it and saying that lines in bad taste, "Dance into the fire!"
He was a football fan, and this film coincided with the tragic Bradford city stadium fire!

B.J. Worth did this parachute jump, took a lot of planning, and authorisation!
One jealous stuntman got miffed, and did the stunt himself without the knowledge of the filmmakers.

I recall reading about the actresses for YOLT a very long time ago, I have probably forgotten more about bond than i can remember now, old age lol

Watching YOLT on Blu-ray as a comparison the Tiger island scenes look stunning in this format though the 4K remaster has made it even better the image just looks so much more natural its difficult to explain.
