Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision nice, title track packing a punch
The brightness has been toned down, seeing more grain and detail. This film looks much more cinematic, far more realistic tones and colors.
It does feel like i am watching a different film, at soma point I will do a side by side comparisons with other versions of the DN.
'I am looking for Mr James Bond' ...one of the most iconic moments in cinema Bond's reveal has never looked or sound better.
With the glare/brightness toned down there is a clearer distention between the different settings/environments which adds a lot to the film.
Connery's Bond was so direct from the start, he nailed it.
Airport scene, Bond is no mug and he always looks like he could kill anyone at any moment.
There is some great detail on the suit the bogus driver is wearing grains of dirt and sweat on his shirt, ruffled suit and dusty cap looks so authentic. This film is in my top five Bond film's for good reason.
Connery was a great subtle actor, in the none dialogue scenes he says so much with his body language you can always see the wheels turning.
Quarrel underestimating Bond.
'I hope he cooks better than he fights'. great line.
Edited: I was mistaken.
Ken Adams sets are stunning, Dent is immediately ruffled by 007 and high tails in daylight to the sinister, calm and collective DR No.
Bond checking if anyone has been in his apartment, Bond not taking any risks opens a second bottle of vodka as a precaution.
The Tarantula effect on the mirror looks better.
Miss Tara permanently looks suspicious.
It's Miss Tara that spits at Bond.
Bond sets the scene to execute Dent, very atmospheric love the sound of the insects and animals in the background.
Setting sail for Crab Key under the cover of night, this looks phenomenal in 4K/
Awaken on paradise beach to the dulcet tones and beauty of Honey, this is in no way depressing. The ocean Honey emerges from looks truly tropical now.
Good attention to detail cloning and drying his Walther PPK after the swamp scene.
The Dolby Atmos sound is an improvement thought the sound is very much in front of you at times which is probably to be expected with film of this age (I will have to try my other two sound systems later to see if they are better, using a Dolby Atmos sound bar at the moment).
Quarrels falls, Bond and Honey taken to DR No's base this film is art, I will take these sets over crappy CGI any day of the week.
DR NO's lair wow, it does feel like I am watching this for the first time.
I love the Bond and Honey builds without being forced they are natural responding to the situation they are in.
The word jousting between DR NO and Bond is some of the best in the series.
Watching this for the first time in 1962 must have been incredible, as soon as SPECTRE is mentioned it opens up a whole new world and elevates the stakes considerably.
I honestly believe Denis could give us a film of this caliber.
Confined Bond gets electrocuted though always uses his wits, in Bonds debut cinematic outing nothing is made easy which is important.
Terence Young is my favorite Bond director, his 3 films are superb.
The miniatures are brilliant they have wear and tear detail that makes it convincing.
DR NO is a great villain in that he likes to project a controlled persona though when he cracks its the opposite.
Honey rescued from drowning.
Felix to the rescue Bond says NO, DR NO and loosens the rope, Honey looking amazing you cant blame Bond lol.
That was an absolute joy to rewatch I could easily watch that again now, its just one of the best films IMO.
Bond being stalked by Grant, Connery does enough with hindsight in his performance to convince you its not Bond, expressions etc obviously aided by make up. Back in 63 the audience for a moment would have been duped for sure.
This is a great scene and brilliant set up for later confrontation..
Title sequence is class, Bond theme is thunderous probably my favorite interpretation of the them..
Dolby Atmos as expected more effective here. The clicking clock during the chess tournament nice.
Again watching this is seeing live art. always loved the Siamese fighting fish analogy. the script and dialogue in the early films is 10/10/
