    They’ve done Thunderball twice, though (and I think the best version is the novel). Maybe they could purchase the rights to Deighton’s Horse Under Water? It would take some adapting, but I don’t think a Harry Palmer adaptation would get the budget to film underwater in today’s market, but a Bond film…

    I'll just say that MI just did a great underwater scene, and even that _almost_ got on my nerves considering what happens at the end of the sequence. I want the squid fight from Dr. No, so if we're going water, let's go where MI never would. I've heard the daylight scenes of the T-Rex attacking a boat in the latest Jurassic World movie is exceptionally well done, so we could get a squid fight methinks. I also have this daydream of an action sequence involving a yacht with a helicopter that I might save for later.

    I don’t mean I want a literal remake of Thunderball, just some echoes of it. It would be a perfect chance to use some of the unused Fleming water setpieces like Bond’s scuba infiltration of Big’s island from LALD, or even the Dr. No squid battle (which I actually think Villeneuve could pull off and make it a credibly harrowing setpiece, especially if he keeps the squid largely obscured in murky water) He even has some experience with rendering eerie squid things in Arrival…

    I did think that the submarine bit in Mission Impossible felt a bit like a modern updating of stuff Fleming would do like the LALD barracuda bit, in that it's a fairly straightforward physical trial for the hero, he's on his own with no baddies to fight, but it's just about his willpower to stay alive in a very tough environment. If MI can do it then it might be good to see Bond doing that.

    I think Bond did that in TND...sort of. Albeit not a very tough underwater situation. But he did it first...so yeah, he can do it again.

    Yeah it's funny, the MI scene is not dissimilar at all to the TND scene: right down to the tumbling missiles and even method of escape (oh, and the wreck is moving too!) but the TND bit pales in comparison quite a lot and never feels like a Flemingy physical test like MI does.
    In fact to be honest I often skip the diving bit when I'm watching TND- it's not a massively interesting scene to me! :D

    I may be alone in this but I don't mind the Italian locations in the Craig films. All of them were cinematic gold for me.

    Oh, yeah. I get that. I do love it, though. Arnold's score helps the scene :)

    Even if Jonathan Nolan isn't directing, I'd be happy to have him write or co-write the screenplay. I imagine his brother would give him some ideas. The only screenwriter that I want back is Phoebe Waller-Bridge, as she is working with Amazon. Even if she isn't the sole writer of the script.

    That's right, and in a perfect world Bond's driving the snowcat van from the TND video game which has an almost ice blue snow camouflage. A chase with several of these, combined with the lights would make for a magical and memorable scene and something I can see a director like Villeneuve really bringing to life.

    Love the Aurora idea. I fear the snow cat is a bit too cumbersome. Shades of SPECTRE's plane without wings vs. cars chase.

    A potentially neat idea for a snow chase that gets Bond back on some skis without feeling like too much of a rehash is maybe Bond could be on skis while the bad guys are on vehicles and he could have some sort of grappling gadget that would allow him to “water ski” behind them and propel himself around with the faster vehicles.
