Sorry if that offends anyone. But the thread had become completely derailed from its actual intent.

Did you like Talisa Soto, also?

James Bond had a space ship swallowing another spaceship 10 years before STARS WARS, wacky antics featuring a comedy sheriff 4 years before Smokey and the Bandit, and a feast involving strange and bizarre foods 1 year before Temple of Doom. B-)

If you listen closely, when Roger is snooping around the stables and Zorin and Maydays martial arts is interrupted Zorin says "we must find him" and he has a slight German accent. Never noticed that.

Bond's painting of Queen Elizabeth in OHMSS appears in Moneypenny's office in TMWTGG, and then again in AVTAK.

In OHMSS the casino scene takes place in Portugal, yet they are playing for francs instead of escudos...
In the novel it's in France, I guess when they changed locations for the movie they didn't think about changing the currency...

Maybe just playing the foreign currency?

    Good spot.

I always associated baccarat with James Bond. In reality he only plays it in just a few films, and was last seen playing it in GE.
Moreover, while casinos are featured in TWINE and SF, the only time since GE that he played a card game was in CR.

    Bond plays baccarat in:
    - DN
    - TB
    - OHMSS
    - FYEO
    - GE

Bond plays another casino game in:
    - DAF
    - TMWTGG
    - OP
    - LTK
    - CR
    - (NSNA, if you want to count both the film as well as the 'Domination' game)

Bond enters a casino but we don't see him play, happens in:
    - TWINE
    - SF

Doesn't he play in SF? I thought he puts something on the table.

Related: In the 1998 video game you can play baccarat.

Oh wow, could be of course, I may have missed that then, one of my least rewatched entries, to be perfectly honest.

Really? I don't remember which game that was... :( I know of black jack in the TWINE game though...

Pretty sure he places something on the table while talking to Severine. Assuming some chips.

Yeah, that was the awesome Game Boy game 'James Bond 007' (wish it had a distinct name), but you could play baccarat, blackjack and red dog.

I may suggest that Bond is seeing playing Chemin De Fer in most of the films you are citing. Chemin De Fer is when the banker role is assumed by a player at the table and rotates. Baccarat is when the casino is the banker and players play against them.

Also the game of backgammon is not a casino game, but a game of chance that can involve money. Similar to Gin or Gin Rummy in that it is a game of chance that can involve betting. As seen in GF.

I do find it interesting that Bond and gaming are strongly tied and yet less than half the films feature a casino scene. Might be caused by the fact the first films with Sean heavily feature casinos and so it was in the DNA.

Well then I stand corrected ;) I always thought chemin de fer (which means "iron road" in French, btw) was a synonym for baccarat, thanks for explaining the difference (I always wanted to know :) )

It is a type of baccarat, yes.

    Chemin de Fer
    • The players take turns being the "banker" — it's a rotating role.
    • Players bet against each other, not the house.
    • Popular in France and in old-school casino scenes (James Bond plays it in Casino Royale).
    • It’s slightly more interactive, with player decisions affecting the game, unlike most modern baccarat.

Punto Banco (most common today, especially in North America)
    • The house is always the banker.
    • Players bet on either the Player, Banker, or Tie, but make no decisions — it’s purely chance-based.
    • Fast, simple, and dealer-run.

    Baccarat Banque
    • Similar to Chemin de Fer, but the banker role is held longer, not rotated each round.
    • Also more common in Europe.

Sounds like you'd be hard pressed to find a place where you'd be able chemin de fer these days. Which is odd, since it appears to be more than just luck, I would expect that would be more fun to play (although I'm far from an expert).

I know that EON thought it wasn't modern to have CR feature Chemin De Fer so they went with poker. Which was also growing in popularity at the time of the film.

People often say that The Man With The Golden Gun put in Martial Arts because of Bruce Lee, and moonraker copied STAR WARS, but also the bus chase from LALD was ripping off On The Buses (the movie), even used the same stuntman to perform it.

There’s a podcaster I love whose favourite fact is that the On The Buses movie took more at the U.K. box office in 1971 than Diamonds Are Forever did. Which I’m sure is true, but Buses was released in the summer, whereas DAF was released on something like the 30th of December: it was only open a few days in 1971 so probably couldn’t take as much as a film which was open for weeks!
