What Directors Should Helm A Bond Film?

    I've said before I don't think Wright is mature or experienced enough when not doing his zany 'Cornetto trilogy' thing.

    At any rate, I think there are plenty of directors out there who could do it.

    Limiting themselves to only eyeing 2-3 directors also runs the risk of putting too many eggs in the same basket should those choices fall through for whatever reason. Best to keep the options very open and keep the list of candidates long, so that if talks with one potential choice do break down or something else comes up that prevents them from taking it, there’s someone else they can turn to right behind them.

    Amazon might as well hire Nolan. He'll be available after his new film The Odyssey is out next year. It's the ideal opportunity. Bond 1 the new era. Nolan can have free reign to do what he wants (assuming Amazon agree). He hasn't got to worry about Eon telling him want to do.

    My money is on Nolan directing, maybe cowriting Bond 1/26 out in 2028.

    A lot of this I suspect will come down to stuff we'll never know about - ie. can the potential director pitch a vision for the film that Amazon and the producers can get on board with? (It's possible for a director to have an interesting set of ideas for a Bond film, but that's not to say it'll work when put in tandem with what the studio want to do or what they feel is needed for this particular film. I'm sure if Nolan started pitching a period piece Bond 26 faithfully adapting a Fleming novel even Amazon would be sceptical of that).

    No one's guaranteed to direct this film in that sense.

    I'm still a bit upset Cuaron won't be involved, I thought he had the ability to do something new and bold with the series, but not lose sight of the roots. I'm worried that we could be going down the Jurassic World/Force Awakens road of a big, safe blockbuster. Remember the dispute with Barbara was over using a more algorithmic approach.

    There are a few things that don't quite add up in this World Of Reel story. First, it was never known from another source whether Cuaron was actually considered. Second, it is not clear how involved the Broccoli's are currently in key decisions, especially after the entrance of Amazon. And third, this same news - in almost the exact same words - was already published in December 2024.

    Cuaron’s name has been floating around for two months with zero confirmation from the trades. That silence says a lot. At this point, it’s more likely he was either just a rumour or talks fell through. If it were happening, we’d probably have heard by now. He’s giving a talk in Mexico on May 30 - maybe we’ll get clarity then. Anyone planning on attending or can keep an eye on this?

    I'm going to assume he did not reveal he's directing the next Bond film ;)

    Anyway, I suspect when big news comes along about the next Bond film, it'll be its own thing.

    Brad Bird is only going to write and produce incredibles 3, not direct. Does this mean he could still direct Bond 26? :-?

    He has Ray Gunn and 1906 in development, so sadly he’s going to be unavailable for Bond 26.

    John Lee Hancock could make a good Bond film as well, I think.
