Silent generation: Connery, Lazeneby, Moore
Boomer: Dalton, Brosnan
Gen X'er: Craig
Depends on who the next Bond is. I suspect they'll be in their mid 30s though, so I guess a millennial. Not that it matters at any rate. Bond isn't a generational character in that way. He can be a 'younger' or 'older' Bond but I don't think we'll get a 'Gen z' or 'Gen x' Bond etc. in the same way.
I know him from The OA. I think he’s good, but I never really considered him for Bond. The game makes him look more rugged and a bit taller (not to mention giving him dark hair). I’ve not seen Dexter: Original Sin, so maybe he’s more obviously Bond material in that, but I still think deciding he should be one of the favourites based on an idealised computer rendering of him is perhaps jumping the gun (obviously if you’ve seen him in live-action shows and still think he’s ideal then my point is irrelevant).
No, and I did look up his height after posting and yeah 5 9 is a bit hard to see as Bond. A shame, because he has it in quite a few other areas.
He certainly shows there are candidates out there we haven't spotted before, but I think it kind of makes him certain not to be the film 007 to be honest; there's no kind of big announcement of excitement when the new 007 gets launched if he's already played Bond kind of but-not-really. And no drive to go to the cinema to see what the new Bond is like if we've already had him in our homes.
They'll want to pick their Bond, not someone else's.
I guess he does show again that someone who isn't British can play Bond. Accent sounds flawless to me so far.
Good point, although not everyone's a gamer I suppose.
Irish actors normally can do English accents. I’m not sure we’ve ever questioned an Irish actor’s candidacy based on their nationality - I believe Aidan Turner is a name that has been mentioned more than once on these forums, and he is also Irish.
Thankfully I’m not alone.
But I’m also not a gamer. I don’t understand gaming. I’m not a boomer, but in this medium I guess I’m boomer-adjacent.
I can see the effort that went into this project.
I liked hearing the background story.
But Bond seemed like a wise ass who is more akin to the character in Carry On, or Young Kirk in JJ’s first Star Trek…
But then again, this wasn’t made for a person who doesn’t play these games.
Still, I wouldn't mind seeing Bond's parents die on screen, and young Bond being there and involved. It's a clever way to work Fleming into the story. If his parents performed some heroic act to save him, it could be a reason why he is so devil-may-care with his own stunts.
I also love the OP short story (I think it's Fleming's best) and hate the way it was bastardized for SP. I think it can be adapted better.
If I were Amazon and I were thinking about a younger Bond, I'd think long and hard incorporating the little bit of background that Fleming gave Bond into Bond 26. I wouldn't mind a true origin story as opposed to the made-up SF one.
Patrick Gibson was born in 1995, which puts him near the tail end of Millennials (1981-1996)
Exactly. That's why I don't care what club I belong to -- Millennials or whatever -- nor what generation this or that Bond are a part of. I simply want an actor whom I feel does a good job as Bond, and so far, I've had no reason to complain. ;-)
But Bond in the game is 26, which makes him Gen Z.
It depends on the game really. As mentioned, Goldeneye really is just a mindless shoot em up game (fun though) but other titles like NightFire (an original story) allow you to take a more stealth-based approach to your objectives if you choose. You can sneak up behind enemies and force them to surrender - incapacitate enemies (and civilians if you so choose) using gadgets from Bond's arsenal - plus excellent driving sections as well.
It saddens me that James Bond 007 never got released for N64 or PS1.
I’m not sure. I honestly haven’t played the game! That’s why I wished for it to be on bigger consoles.
In the Sahara level, you have a 'satellite relay' device that shows your location on a grid and where you have to go (military base), and you have to figure out how to get there by moving from screen to screen (up/down/left or right). The catch is you have only enough water in your canteen bottle to move a few screens before dying of thirst, and there are scorpions too! You can fill up your canteen at an oasis - the canteen given to you by a traveler on camel back.
