I feel like there going for a Dan Stevens/Jack Lowden take on Bond. Not my preference but as long as the movies don't follow suit I'll take it.

WOW, Looks great! Still getting Craig films vibes from the trailer, but way lighter in tone. Young Bond. Gameplay looks like mix of stealth, 3rd person shooting, and driving sections.

I think this is press release; Bond is 26 years old in this one and a Royal Navy air crewman, which is a change. Sounds like the 00 section is being started up again and he's entered into the training programme, rather than it being a 'two kills and you're a Double 0' thing.

    https://www.gamespress.com/en-US/IO-INTERACTIVE-AND-AMAZON-MGM-STUDIOS-ANNOUNCE-THE-RETURN-OF-JAMES-BON
IO Interactive, the award-winning developer and publisher behind the globally-acclaimed HITMAN franchise, and Amazon MGM Studios today officially unveiled 007 First Light, a story-driven action-adventure game featuring a standalone original, re-imagined origin story of a young James Bond. Coming in 2026, 007 First Light will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on Steam and the Epic Game Store.

This unique, standalone original story has been created by the passionate development team at IO Interactive. In 007 First Light, players will step into the shoes of a young Bond, a promising yet rebellious Royal Navy air crewman who is recruited into MI6. His sharp instincts and heroism in combat propel him into the agency’s rigorous training program for the once revered, and newly resurrected, elite 00 section.

For the first time ever, fans will be able to experience Bond’s ascent at MI6 from a young 26-year-old recruit into a full-fledged spy – immersing them in the exotic and dangerous world of espionage captured in the films. Bond’s adventures will take players all around the globe, coming face to face with allies and foes (or in some cases, both), while choosing how they overcome obstacles and challenges, whether it be with brute force, cunning guile, or charming wit.

"With 25 years of experience in creating captivating action-adventure games with the HITMAN franchise, our studio has been energized with this monumental opportunity in harnessing that expertise in bringing 007 back to video games,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive. “We’re pouring our energy and passion for the franchise into creating a cinematic adventure that pushes the boundaries of what a James Bond game can be, while telling a fresh, new story. We can’t wait for players and fans to discover an experience tailor-made for them.”

007 First Light is a third-person action-adventure game that blends IO Interactive’s signature stealth and action gameplay mechanics with the world of Bond and MI6. Players will choose how to utilize Bond’s unique set of skills in combat, relationships, as well as the latest in Q’s technological gadgetry in his ascent to becoming 007. Along the way, they will meet familiar faces like M, Q, and Moneypenny, and be introduced to new characters including Bond’s mentor John Greenway, the mysterious Isola, as well as a whole new cast of villains.

007 First Light was revealed today during Sony’s PlayStation State of Play, with a trailer that can be viewed HERE. The game is available to wishlist now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and for PC on Steam and Epic Games Store and Amazon.com. Players who sign up for an IOI account now (HERE) will receive an exclusive in-game item for 007 First Light at the game’s launch, along with additional rewards in the future. It kinda looks like a mix of Craig era and GoldenEye, which i'm good with.

The plot about a rogue 00 Agent is certainly a callback to Goldeneye.

Did anyone else notice Bond wearing a Nehru Jacket and a shirt similar to the one he was wearing during the Parkour Chase in Casino Royale?

Also only one, very brief, dinner jacket moment in the trailer, and a white jacket at that.
They're going for a younger feel to Bond. It's an interesting idea.

Is it Patrick Gibson? Seems a pretty good call.

Yeah…I’m hyped. There are some wonderful easter eggs and callbacks and carried over motifs from the movies. I’d love to watch this Bond grow and mature and harden over the next (hopefully) few games. This feels fresh yet familiar, modern and exotic—playful in all the best ways the best Bond films do.

Just had a search and a leaker on 4chan apparently (hence the focus on skin colour!) revealed a number of points about this game, including that Bond is played by Gibson, which all turned out to be right- the only other one is the adversary is an AI company:

I love how they write “lots of women and dark skinned characters” as if it’s some point of contention.

As if we don’t live in a timeline where we had MI6 represented by Judi Dench and Colin Salmon back in the bloody 90s. These dorks must have been living under a rock.

Exactly but nostalgia is a powerful drug and if you bring that up to those people they’ll grasp at straws for some sort of counter argument. I’ve waited too long for this game so I’m not about to let a bunch of bigoted assholes (pardon my language) ruin the experience for me. Nothing will be stopping me from picking this up on release day.

Anyone recognise the lady playing M? She's not ringing any bells for me. Lennie James is the only one I recognised straight away.

The funny thing is that Bond is still white and they would still find a way to whine.

There’s no pleasing them. They always need to feel like they’re indignant about something.

Anyway, I do wonder if setting this as an origin story means the plan is to follow this Bond through multiple games. I hope so.

I think I read the producer was hoping it would be a trilogy.

I guess that depends. This actually looks like they put some real care and effort into it as a true main event game, rather than something they can churn out every other year. After GE64 many games suffered from being rush jobs, with LEGENDS being the biggest blunder. As long as IO gets to do their thing without MGM forcing them to rush it in time for a movie release I assume it’ll be fine.

Loved everything about that trailer. Precisely the shot in the arm I've been feeling we (and the franchise) desperately needed. A modern reinvention that clearly knows and respects how much it owes Bond's past -- but doesn't seem afraid to take fresh risks.

    A few specific observations:
    • Love the origin story spin here. Parents died to save him, trauma left him with authority issues, and we're seeing the 00-program as "relic reactivated" (metaphor a bit on the nose there ;) ) as opposed to the two-kills idea.
    • Chasing a rogue 00-agent is a wonderful nod to GoldenEye, given that this game is a bit of a spiritual successor (introducing a new era, fresh start, etc.). But just different enough in that it seems to be a known chase where they'll have more chances to go head to head. All the more interesting if our man James isn't a fully-fledged 00 yet and needs to #EarnTheNumber by taking one down.
    • Music floored me, in the best way. Wonderful integration of digital electronic sampling and classic Bond. I soared with the OHMSS theme.
    • Extremely visible high-end product placement with partners who've appeared in recent films. Omega, Jaguar, etc. IOI even tagged them all directly in a follow-up Tweet to the trailer's announcement post, I believe. This may be the highest 'production value' we've ever seen in a Bond game.
    • I do wonder if this tells us something about who will be cast as the cinematic Bond. Not suggesting it will be Gibson himself, BUT I would assume Amazon/MGM/the powers that be will want to achieve a certain degree of brand synergy across games and films going forward. Could be irrelevant if this is a separate universe, but it might indicate the Bond they're planning to cast (or have already) will in fact be Caucasian, light brown hair, similar build, etc. Though I question whether the cheek scar (which is a wonderful touch here) would survive to the big-screen iteration of 007.

I think First Light has the potential to be the best of all the Bond games - I can’t think of a better developer suited to Bond than IO and with any luck we’ll get more games from them if this one is a huge hit. I think the days of GE64 being the Gold Standard for Bond games are about to end…

It would be wild if they select Gibson for the films based on this.

He has the face type, age range and voice tone of a Dan Stevens or Jack Lowden.

I saw a young Jason Isaacs there and I liked it. IO couldn’t screw this up if they tried. Incredible trailer - it’s as if EA never happened

Hope not. We're long overdue for a POC Bond. I had a vague hope this game would pull the trigger on that, but I'm not surprised it didn't.
