It's not a spin though, it's a fact.
Expecting the ratings to stay the same as they were 20 years ago when no programmes (other than Christmas flukes) are getting those sort of figures now is the negative spin and makes no sense.
1988
2005 (after being dyed black)
I just saw this fun post on Reddit pulling out various online reactions to the show from ten years ago in 2015, and, guess what- they were complaining how 'woke' it had become and they thought the awful liberal agenda had taken it over then too. As indeed they were complaining ten years before that (when the phrase 'gay agenda' popped up over and over again).
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Seen it all before.
Looking back, the McCoy era was really quite modern.
The McCoy period was quite modern, it might look old hat today, but something like Survival is pretty sophisticated from a TV production point of view compared to a Davison like Castrovalva maybe, and they're only seven years apart.
DW looks great today, but compared to Whittaker's first series, also seven years ago, it's not wildly different. Better TARDIS, of course.
David Tennant says farewell:

I doubt Doctor Who will finish for good but it may be put on hold for a few years.
It's clear the final act was completely reworked, well I know that as fact. Ruby's hair really gives it away. The Doctor reacts in a way to a certain situation that suggests he knows and then the next scene feels totally contradictory.
The ending I knew about weeks ago.
There were some good things in this finale and some utter cringe, the big bad
I will rewatch the two part finale again, the first part is hilarious and utterly ridiculous so much so it's entertaining, the second part actually for a few scenes had genuine weight and emotional depth.
The finale improves the overall arc of the series, it's a shame so much preachy nonsense ruins so much of this era.
@MajorDSmythe good point regarding
The War Between The Land And The Sea looks interesting I will give it a go.
I was mixed on it; I really enjoyed the end part with the Doctor trying to save a child's life and pulling her between realities, the cameo was surprisingly good and made me kind of reconsider that actor/character, and Omega was nicely terrifying, but before then it was failing to land with me a bit and was obviously quite frantic. I still think it's better than it was under Chibnall as everything connected up but I didn't perhaps love it and preferred earlier eps in the series like the song contest one.
I think it's been a strong series overall though and I'm sad to see Gatwa go.
Regarding the ending I had the same thought:
See my Reddit link above :))
Ruby was the goat of the episode, Millie really can act, I warmed a lot to Belinda in the finale now that the script allowed her to develop her character and appear happy and smiling was a bonus, they were both great.
No thanks, Ten years ago the show was nothing like it is now.
You can say that again. Series 8 wasn't so blatantly sanctimonious as series 2 (2025).
Here's a wild idea for RTD, give the show a break for a year. Instead make a spin off show featuring The Rani (the Archie Panjabi Rani). Give her a companion of her own, and turn her loose on all of time and space.
DW has jumped the Fonz way way into the stratosphere.
If it leads to a reset and good DW I will be happy.
As much as I hated that last shot nothing to do with person it's because of creative choice, DW may be thrusted into the public consciousness again. (It was a stunt).
I love DW I want good story telling, I want the show to do well without BS.
As a kid growing up I watched Tom Baker so my bar is very high. City of Death I will never forget watching that when it aired, it blew my mind.
Matt Smith is my favourite Doctor, season 5 was incredible.
You know when a actor has there heart in the role when playing DW.
Since 2005 Eccleston, Smith, Capaldi all juganauts.
Gatwa has tremendous range but I agree about his inability to own the role.
Not really his fault, though, and I think he did a good job. Wish him well.
Has it? Did it? I don't recall that being the case at the time, when I was actually a part of the shows target audience.
It does seem to me that too much discussion around Dr Who these days revolves around sexual politics rather than saving the Universe. Every season seems to have to have some additional development in that space to the point where, dare I say it, it's beginning to come across like a publicity gimmick to attract attention.
Personally I think the current creators as a group have been doing it for a very long time and have simply run out of good ideas. It may be time for another hiatus, or at least for a completely new set of people to have a go.
Looking back, it's been another great run, but it may be time to say "Goodbye and thanks for all the Fish"
It really has.
It's just the culture war idiots targeting it now.
For the usual reasons.
It's not time to say goodbye at all. Plenty of potential and a massive, ready-made audience.
Should just resist any overtures of its politicised critics.
They want ownership, not consensus.

Well, that was proven wrong, haha.
I did actually catch it. Very weird. Felt like the whole thing had been done a bit last minute (which would make sense if the lead actor decided not to continue and/or there was a change in direction).
The concept of Dr Who will always have plenty of potential, but the people involved will inevitably run out of ideas and become stale at some point, just look at any TV show ever made.
Sometimes they know when to stop, sometimes they don't and end up "jumping the shark" or begin recycling previous ideas. That's when a break or a fresh set of eyes is required.
