I too will follow suit and vote for Casino Royale. Not much explanation is needed on this one, it's quite obvious for what reasons it trumps YOLT. Still though, here they are:

    -Better soundtrack
    -Better 007 performance
-Better action (though it is close)
-Better villains (Osato and Brandt are cheesy losers, and Le Chiffre beats Pleasance Blofeld)
-Better locations (I prefer the varied lot of the Florida, Madagascar, Montenengro, and Venice over the whole time spent in Japan)

Barry beats Arnold every time, and this is from a major Arnold enthusiast. Even Arnold himself says YOLT is his favourite soundtrack of all time.

The rest, apart from maybe the villains, I agree with, and for that reason, my vote goes to CR.

@CraigMooreOHMSS: I just dislike the fact that the majority of the soundtrack is all orchestral, stringy, instrumental melody sounds, whereas the CR soundtrack has a much harder rock sound to it, which heightens the enjoyment.

@00Beast Fair enough, if you prefer the more modern styles then I can't argue. The CR score is very good.

It's not necessarily the more modern take that I appeal to, but when you compare CR to YOLT on the soundtrack level, I have to go with the harder, more hard rock style. I just think that the CR soundtrack feels more polished and sleek than YOLT's.

But then you'd have to consider the films themselves too. Barry fused oriental style with the classic Bond style perfectly. CR, for the most part, is Arnold's love letter to the earlier days of Bond music. It's more similar to Thunderball than YOLT though, I would say.

Yes, I could definitely see-or hear, rather-the similarities between CR and TB in terms of soundtrack.

Anyway, at least we can both agree CR is superior to YOLT in most ways!

    This one is too easy.
Casino Royale by a mile. CR is brilliant in so many ways and You Only Live Twice is a mad as a box of frogs! No contest.

edit do love YOLT score though, one of my favourites of the series.

Common. Casino Royale (although I do enjoy YOLT and don't think it deserves some of the flack it gets)

    YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE...
I like CR a lot but it's just not in the same league as YOLT.

Seconded, Casino Royale for me as well. Not that I hate YOLT by any means. Has my favorite Bond girl ever and a lot of good things going for it, including inspiration for the storylines of TSWLM and TND.

I for one have always thought that TSWLM and TND did better with the YOLT plot than YOLT actually did. YOLT leaves many questions and plot holes to be discovered, whereas TSWLM and TND leave little, if none at all. Also, the villain's motives are more clearly explained in the latter two releases.

What plot holes and questions are you referring to may I ask? I'd be happy to explain whatever it is you are missing. I find Blofeld and the Chinese motives very clear.

It just does not make sense why the Chinese would pay Blofeld to spark war between the USA and Russia. What is their gain from this? Also, Blofeld's money wouldn't be worth anything, because if war did flare up, and global devestation followed, how could he even use it?

This is the most difficult match up I have came across, these two ranking 4 and 5 in my rankings. My heart goes with YOLT, my brain with Casino Royale, and my vote with YOLT!
