    New Folios released tomorrow.

If we're lucky the final Fleming is among them.

    This looks good:

    You’re right, don’t know how I didn’t notice that.

Where is the octopus? It's someone with their head in their hands in front of a phone, isn't it?

That's what I thought. I can definitely see the phone and the person with their head in their hands.

Ah, yeah... I think the numbers on the rotary were confused for suckers. Looks more like a phone for sure.

I just ordered LALD and MR. That will bring my Folio Bond collection up to five (I already possess CR, FRWL & DN).

But will Octopussy include The Property of a Lady? Because the UK 1st editions of the books didn't. And Folio have been true to printing the text from the 1st editions.

Most recently acquired LALD, still need MR. My collection is at 5 as well; got a big tax return and thought about pulling the trigger on the rest all at once, but it was just under $700 with tax and shipping and couldn't stomach it.

Well, technically Operation Mincemeat... but yeah that tease was for an Agatha Christie then, we were seeing octopuses where there weren't any.

Love those illustrations of the gaming table in CR, Bond from YOLT, Viv on the scooter and Tiffany at the dressing table - genuinely fantastic stuff.

Yeah no Fleming this time. Pretty sure it's coming in October then. They are releasing the last two books as one per year, same as they did with the first two. Always felt they would do it like this. Stretch it out over a longer period.

This was mentioned on the book covers thread, and I thought it worth mentioning here (yet) again.
Every Folio edition thus far has been true to the first edition UK version of the book. Which we all applaud, obviously.
With the possible October publication of Octopussy and the Living Daylights, there is a worry that if they go with the UK first edition text, (my UK 1st book is picture below), then the short story Property of a Lady won't be included. This is because this short story wasn't in the UK 1st edition, I think it first appeared in novel format in the first paperback edition of O&tLD (can anyone confirm this?).
Also, later editions of O&tLD included 007 in New York. Personally, I'm not so worried about that one, but I'd rather both stories be in the upcoming Folio set.

As you can see from the first picture, the original O&tLD was a slight volume when compared to the previous four books.

Nice. I'd of course rather have the full set of stories, but I'm not too concerned either as my other complete set has them.

I suspect most people collecting the Folio editions would have the stories elsewhere in their collection even a few times. It's not so much about not being able to read the story, as having all the Fleming Bond stories in one complete luxury hardback collection.

The 2008 Centenary Editions featured an Octopussy with four stories in, (and it was still the slimmest volume in the set). I hope this is the way Folio go, (not least because I'm re-reading them as they come out, and I'm halfway through FYEO now).

@ColonelAdamski this is what the Folio Society confirmed to me regarding the source material for the Fleming novels:

"The James Bond Folio editions are taken from earlier versions of the Ian Fleming novels published in the 1960s, and most closely follow the 2012 Vintage printings with minor emendations to the text."

I’m mostly hopeful about it. It really wouldn’t make sense to leave the stories out at this point with how short it is already. I understand the original printing came without the latter two, but this is an area I think most wouldn’t mind Folio not being 1000% faithful in.

Those are another set of editions that passed me by at the time (at least I don't remember seeing them around), but are hard to come by now.

It was awesome to see how quickly my CR copy was shipped! But I’m guessing the wait will still be quite a while since I’m in the U.S. Does anyone have experience with this on how long it takes?

Wasn’t a fan of those covers. Way too 60s hippie pop art for Fleming Bond.

If I have to take a guess, perhaps another new version of CR. I’m hopeful for the rest of the short stories though to complete their collection.
  • edited April 2023 Posts: 988
Yep, it's CR, a limited edition of 750, hand numbered with new Faye Dalton artwork. Yours for for £500, but order quick I reckon!

Wow, yeah… I’ll leave this one to the people who can somehow afford it! Cool that I guessed it, but man, that price is truly eye-watering. I hope the final short stories are still coming sometime this year.

I went ahead and have ordered LALD and MR (I have the standard CR), so my collection will be off to a nice start. Going to try to set aside some money for a while now though so I can save money in the long run, given their $30 off $300+ deal. I was seeing something about them having done summer sales too, so perhaps so that will happen again and help.

I don't actually like the look of it very much. For that much cash I'd want a classier cover.
