That is a nice looking watch… checking it out now.

Much thanks to everyone complimenting the article, think it got more attention here than on the site lol. Brought great cheer, and I hope you all find the straps you need xD

I've tried all sorts of adjustment on them, can never get them to sit in a way which isn't uncomfortable. But thanks, maybe I'll have a look if I eve put one back on one :)
I don't massively like the way they make them sit so high anyway.

You can wear it with the buckle and loops all underneath, as long as you position the watch head just right. Don’t need to trim them or anything, and it has just the thickness on one strap (almost less than 1mm with the basic versions) Might fix both problems, and suits the Connery Colours in particular if you want that Bond look from having the NATO.

    Like so:

Does that not leave you with a large amount of folded fabric under your wrist? May as well just get a canvas conventional strap as you've lost the security aspect of the Nato with that which is kind of its main purpose I thought.

Not a large amount in my opinion, and it actually increases the security aspect, because the strap now has two fastening functions rather than one — like a strap and buckle version of a deployment clasp to some extent — and still retains the fundamental security function of the fact that a spring bar failure won’t lose your watch. I suspect it’s actually how it was originally designed to be used to be honest.
The shorter strap that usually sits under the watch is now folded back under the wrist instead — which can sometimes be more comfortable if anything.
It depends on how the strap is made (length particularly) and the wearer, and is a little more fiddly to put on until you get used to it mind you. The bonus is, because you aren’t cutting the strap or anything like that, you can switch back and forth.
This way a watch will still slide under your cuff, and you can probably tuck a playing card under your wrist to cheat at cards…

    Edit:
Here, this video shows it in action:

That fan-started Bond watch homage made me want to have a play- I know he's never worn one, but how about this for a 007-inspired dial design on an Explorer homage? :D

    ME15ZI5X_o.jpg

I used the crown from the Bond universe's MI6 logo, but perhaps it's a bit on the nose :D

That's a nice thought. Should find an Oyster Perpetual homage really!

Last year I bought two replica Explorer 1 cases and the riveted bracelets to make a couple of display mock-ups. They were selling on ebay. Must get back to those projects.

    Replicas of book Bond's watch?

I found this on YouTube earlier (even though it's over a decade old) and now I think it's the thing I want the most in the world :D

Not quite the book watch, but that would be cool. I'm doing a mock-up of Fleming's Explorer, which may or may not be intended to be the same one in the books. From memory, Bond's was an Oyster Perpetual but not confirmed as an Explorer.

I've seen that video before, it's made by someone who was on AJB years back. How he got the face to rise while spinning just like the film prop, is really going the extra mile.

So what are everyone's opinion on the whole smartwatch situation?
I personally think it would absolutely make sense for Bond to wear a dedicated tactical smartwatch - possibly something like the one @Fire_and_Ice_Returns posted - on a tactical mission. Obviously spruced up a bit by Q Branch. I believe some fans are strictly against stuff like that, and I don't think I'd enjoy weird smartwatch features being shoved into an Omega watch, but these watches exist, so why not have him use one in a fitting situation? Arguably, a lot of the watches Bond has worn were tech-forward for their time. We'd obviously want him wearing a dress watch in other parts of the film.
The obvious reason why this will not happen anytime soon is that Omega doesn't produce a smartwatch and I am not aware of any other brand in the Swatch Group having one in the line-up.

I could see him wearing something like that on a stealth mission, sure. Personally I'd love him to wear an all PVD with steel bracelet and radar screen function or similar during a covert scene. Green lighting on black looks good. I was looking at buying a black PVD Seamaster homage a while back and they are quite striking.

I have nothing against smartwatch features on an Omega- much like the GoldenEye video game really! I think it would make sense for Bond to receive data on his watch as other people do.
But I'd like to see a gadget which suits the form of a watch- Spectre and NTTD's gadget features could have been installed in anything really; they could have been pens or lighters or anything, and I'd much prefer to see something like LALD's buzzsaw where it's actually the shape of the watch or where you wear it which is part of the gadget design. I just find that more pleasing. I guess TWINE's piton watch sort of counts too, whereas GE's laser doesn't for me.

Maybe as a wink to the books, it could have a gadget feature which makes the bracelet go rigid, so Bond can take it off and use it as a knuckle duster without actually breaking his fingers. Perhaps it's a staser knuckle duster.

One of the ideas for my unfinished Bond story from 2012 is, he had a watch with super strong bracelet and spring bars, and he uses it as a handcuff to restrain a henchman he just knocked out. The bracelet could retract and tighten by twisting the bezel. I agree about using the form of the design in the gadget, has more of a novel custom vibe to it, like they put in a bit more effort into the prop.

I like the handcuff idea; that's a lot of fun!

I've thought that it might be nice to put a super bright stun flash in the face of a watch; so when Bond is captured at gunpoint from behind he puts his hands up in surrender and then - flash! The goon is disorientated and Bond can sock him in the jaw.

Thanks mate, the handcuff idea has a whiff of plausibility to it, I think.

He had a stun flash 'flare' function in his watch in the Solstice comic - there's a nice humorous twist to it later on in the story, if you haven't read it. I like having it stun the guy behind him, that would work well.

I am not a fan of the majority of Smart Watches, I only bought the Instinct® 2 Solar Tactical Edition for its practical functionality. I am mainly using it for strength training running/hiking and cycling. It has 5 buttons and not a touch screen thankfully and I like the retro look and minimalist monochrome screen.

I love traditional watches but the usefulness of smart watches is great. Just that it unlocks my computer without passwords is almost reason enough! :)

I had a look at the Fenix models, Garmin do some very impressive smart watches. I could have opted for the cheaper Instnct 2 standard edition though I as I am often out trekking for long periods the Solar Power function will be handy and then I thought I may as well just get the additional Tactical features. I have used the watch several times now whilst out training and its absolutely amazing what these watches can do.

I have yet to have an extensive look at Garmin Connect IQ store with additional apps and widgets.

Very nice watch. I have a Garmin Fenix5x Sapphire and it is my single favorite piece of EDC gear. I use it for everything. It can do SO MUCH. I've always thought it was a very Bond gear item even if it's not a fancy Omega or Rolex. I have an Omega as well but I wear my Garmin 99% of the time.

I'm wearing a Forerunner 245 Music right now, which is very good for tracking all kinds of things and allows me to go on a run and listen to music without having to lug my phone around. Just like a semi-recent post I did in the gadgets thread about fun ways to finally use smartphones, they could certainly do a lot of cool stuff with smartwatches or smartwatch-like functions.
I wonder if Omega/Swatch Group ever wants to do something similar to Frederique Constant who have a line of smartwatches that still have a traditional, hand-based clockface (which automatically sets itself, if you change timezones), but also a small digital display and a bunch of sensors in there.
If they ever were to go that way (which I'm not sure they will), a Bond film would be tailor-made to introduce the watch.

Currently Instinct® 2 Solar Tactical Edition only has music control as far as I am aware though there is plenty of storage for a potential upgrade, some reviewers said it is likely to happen. It was not so much a deal breaker for me as I don't tend to listen to music when out running or walking though admittedly it would be a nice feature to have.

An ideal smart Bond watch would be a classic piece with all the optional extra's added.
