    A Gloria Grahame appreciation post on what would have been her 99th birthday (November 28, 1923).

    A very complicated person, I can see why actress Dana Delany is so attracted to her story. In any case, Ms. Grahame was an absolute stunner!

    I still need to see the Barbara Broccoli movie about Gloria Grahame.
    Tonight I watched THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL in her honor.

    @ToTheRight: Given my affection for Gloria Grahame its surprising, but I haven't seen FILMS STARS DON'T DIE IN LIVERPOOL either. To date, I only seen the trailer and several of the interviews that Annette Bening did at the time of the film's release.

    I like to think of many of Noir's Femme Fatales as proto-Bond Girls, and Grahame certainly fit that description IMO. As for a film to watch in tribute .... IN A LONELY PLACE is too obvious, so I'm go with THE BIG HEAT.

    Gloria Grahame also has a role in the Mitchum noir MACAO, another one of my favorites.

    A nice re-watch of THE BIG HEAT (1953) and a good reminder to be careful around coffee pots! Surprisingly modern and violent (for its’ era), I could see a Liam Neeson type playing the Glen Ford role (Sgt Dave Bannion) in a remake. But who would replace Lee Marvin or Gloria Grahame?

    The supporting roles are also well cast with Jeanette Nolan, Jocelyn Brando, Alexander Scourby and Adam Williams (warming up for a similar role in NORTH BY NORTHWEST.

    Ava is in my top 3 favorite beauties of classic cinema. Certainly enjoying several of her movies this month.

    I saw The Big Sleep by chance one rainy weekday winter afternoon in 1985 - switched it on just as Marlowe went into the bookstore. Bought the first Picador Chandler omnibus the next time I went into town and that was me sold.

    The black spot is likely a boutonniere on Bond's lapel. Also Bond's handkerchief was likely not black lol.

    Saying that the handkerchief may actually be black looking at the original image or perhaps red? I know when films were shot in black and white certain tricks/colors were used to make things look more prominent. I am going to check the color poster for the film.

    This one turned out pretty well, a lot of the other images I found are very blurred.

    Accordingt to wikipedia, the original broadcast of CR was in color, though the survivng kinescope was in black and white.

    I wonder how much truth there is to that? Be interesting to know what the film looked like in color.

    I've always been fascinated by the techniques used for classic black and white cinematography: colors of the sets, clothes and props.
    George Reeves' gray/brown Superman suit for instance.
    I imagine Barry Nelson's dinner jacket was probably a beige, buff, taupe or gray.
