The fact that it was all done with the writers strike makes it all the more impressive to me. I can't believe that they managed to pull it off with so much against them at the time.

    Absolutely.

Like Enigma & Era, Conjure One is great. But I think like Madonna's DAD theme, Conjure One's Still Holding On is a great song on its own, but I'm not sure it has the DNA of a Bond theme, though.

While Madonna's song definitely has some 007 DNA chords in it, Still Holding On has the Daniel Craig kind fo stuff in it. It's got the perseverance vibe going on. Of course the song was a rough demo and it would have required edits to fit the film too as you see with most Bond songs sounding a little different on the title screen than in their album versions.

But the beginning of the song is easily fits the bill of when Bond gets shot or he just threw someone off a helicopter and looks at the Spectre ring. It's got that emotional pull to it.

Yeah, I like the song, like all of Conjure One's songs. Maybe another version of it with a touch of Bondian Orchestra would have helped more though. Maybe if David Arnold had worked with them.

That must have been the plan....David Arnold was on board until Sam Mendes came along with simplistic tuner Thomas Newman.
  • QoS made the most societal commentaries of any Bond movie, mainly through the dialogue we hear between other characters such as Felix and Beam, M and her colleagues, or Greene and his associates.

The series continued towards Oscar territory and could have met more goals had it stopped listening too much to paying fan service with return to its cliches.

It might have if it was a standalone film. It’s sad how underrated it is.

I would disagree....the film felt like a standalone but people felt that it just didn't have enough of CR to be a sequel. It was made in a way with both elements. Craig mentioned in the recent documentary that the additions for QoS to be a sequel were added as a last minute thing...imagine if it was standalone, people would have resented the film for pulling off another DAF to OHMSS or GE to LTK.

I like it the way it is. I am just saying that the average viewer might have not appreciated it as much for that reason, since they weren’t as invested in the story.

While CR was a suspense film with well written out scenes/twists, QoS was more of an action/adventure. CR felt more comprehensive and epic-like plot wise.

Sadly yes....QoS was action/adventure instead of suspense film with more time too.

The 4K HDR presentation of this film is weird. Something is wrong with the flesh tones. They all looks like wax figures. That combined with the hyper editing does not make this film a good visual experience.

I can't do the 4Ks of CR or QoS. The color seems entirely sucked out of the picture. I couldn't believe how dull the 4K Madagascar chase is in CR compared to the blu-ray. Plus, they removed the killer main menus from the blu-ray versions, which is a big letdown for me.

I'd be all for this, of course. In the meantime, I'll just keep my blu-ray copies and keep awaiting the rest of the pre-Craig installments to get a 4K release. Now THOSE would do well getting an upgrade. SF, of course, somehow looks even better on 4K, at least. I didn't bother even checking out SP when I had the set, but considering I don't love SF and rarely revisit it, I had no reason to keep it and ended up selling it off for a profit.

My understanding is that there is no "producer's cut" out there to be brought out. Is there even any finished, been-through-post-production footage to use ?

I'd imagine the alternate ending is intact in some form or fashion and there's gotta be some commentary that was finished but never produced. The issue here is the market for it - it's considered one of the weakest installments of the era, sadly, so I can't imagine they'd want to rush to sink money into any sort of special edition, unlike CR.

Yes, Forster himself said he'd prepared a cut that included the Bond-kills-Mr.-White ending for 'the producers' to view at an official screening, so I guess that scene must exist in final form. BB also said they cut Bond's response to Field's death - but I dunno if she meant that they cut an extra scene or just cut down the footage to get the scene we did get.

Again, it's wild to imagine what the rest of this era would've entailed had they kept that ending instead. I'm personally thankful for the ending we did get but I'd still love to see it in its entirety (and any deleted scenes that are surely floating around).

Absolutely - it's quite bizarre to think of the extent to which just cutting that one scene affected the rest of the Craig era!

If QoS and CR get released with a special edition together it would be best, because QoS is meant to viewed back to back. Many people have said QoS is best viewed in an abridged version.

I doubt we get anything better from CR than that three disc Collector's Edition. It's perfect. All I want is something similar for QoS.

Justice for QoS, indeed! DC said the movie has its special parts and would likely give it his blessing. Maybe for BB, it could be a good way for her to continue working directly with DC like how she did for the current Macbeth on Broadway.

Same. If I could greenlight one EON heritage project, it'd be a QOS Redux.

    Agree with all of this.

My optimistic side wonders if maybe they’d actually want a QOS recut/final cut BECAUSE it was seen as a weaker entry and could potentially refurbish its reputation.

That being said, does anyone know what happened to the footage of Bond in the desert wearing a white button down and huge aviators? There’s pics floating around of this look that didn't make it into the film.

Same goes with the shot of him in that polo running with a pistol outside during the finale, yet his outfit's different (he dons that jacket or whatever it is) in the finished film.

I think that was him practicing, rather than a finished shot! Similar to that great footage of him running up the crane in CR, with that padded vest, ( doing a lot of huffing and puffing 🤣)

Interesting! Thanks for that tidbit, I never knew that. The image of it always looked so official that I thought they had made a last second costume switch or something (considering it makes more sense for him to be in a polo, given the weather). Love it either way though.

Maybe add a scene with a stuntman to find the jacket and wear it, connect it and use the unused footage with the jacket.
  • That scene where Bond and Camille are contemplating death in the fire....there is a scene in NTTD where Bond and Madeleine are surrounded while in the car during a shootout and Bond is so heartbroken feeling betrayed as he did by Vesper that he loses all hope to live before he snaps out of it. These two scene compare well but little credit is given to the QoS references or similar aspects of the film. Bond is involved in a chase in Italy again and large bells are ringing in both movies while the streets compare fairly somehwat similar in each film.

    Wait a minute!!......

Daniel Craig is the same guy who wore gloves in a couple of major scenes in SF and nearly ruined the film as the editor noticed that you can't wear gloves for a fingerprint signature gun to be shot. So, since DC's contract would require an enormous amount of money for him to come back an reshoot the scenes, the directed ended having his hands CGI'd during casino beating/komodo dragon scene and the Patrice death scene. He enters the room holding a gun without gloves and ends up having gloves as Patrice slips through his hands.

If this can happen and SF continues to get heralded as a "good movie", though it hasn't aged well. It really, was funner to shoot for Craig and the actors involved more and the producers laughed their way to the bank with generous marketing by the studio.

No.....QoS deserves justice and the fans who stood by from CR to NTTD deserve their due share. The last 007 game hasn't been made in over 10 years and it had no involvement from DC. It was one of the lower-rated games in the franchise while the ones he was involved with like Bloodstone and QoS have many fans.....and his lack of involvement proves that the projects he dumped aren't worth your time or investment. DC doesn't show up to the Oscars or BAFTA, no matter who is singing, which goes to show how audiences don't watch these kinds of self-congratulatory and tone-deaf shows anymore. No matter who gets slapped, I won't be watching next year's Oscars.
  • Another thing to notice...the Spectre birthday party scene is filmed in a location used on QoS called Reform....there are similar pillars surrounding the ballroom and also an 8 pointed star on the marble floor appearing in both this scene and the one in QoS where M is getting briefed by Tanner....Rory Kinnear definitely deserves to come back as Tanner!

I didn't notice it in NTTD but it's indeed the same Blades club where Bond and Graves have their match in DAD.
