Just an impression, but are you thinking that May is a grifter and a drifter, a con artist but one who's getting on in years and has no home ?
Bond takes her in, demanding that she promise to stay honest and take care of his home and as his assistant, as well as enjoying her own life, but no crime ! and, then, of course, when Bond's away how the May will play...
while I don't believe this that being said he doesn't give a year so technically any post Oscars we could find out the next 007
I know she's used to larger roles, and plays a rather major one in the F&F stories, but wouldn't Hellen Mirren just knock it out of the park ? She's known for keeping the Sexy Hot regardless of the number of years since she happened to be born - so, maybe, when Bond's in town, she saves time in helping him make the bed cuz she is IN IT ALL NIGHT LONG ?!!? Um, yeah, this says nothing about May and reveals only that I greatly admire and find phenomenally attractive the wonderful Ms. Mirren.
I’d prefer a ‘normal’ granny-next-door type woman, who fuss over Bond like a surrogate child. Who has a husband and grown up kids and grandchildren, living in a different universe to her boss
I'm with you on this. As much as I love specific Fleming details in this films, I don't think May is necessary for the big screen. Funny thing is I do picture someone along the lines of Judi Dench as May when I think of that character.
I remember in LeCarre's "Spy Who Came In From The Cold", Bernard Lee plays a shopkeeper that gets punched in the face, felt like a bit of a "f*** you" to Bond :))
Maybe Mission: Impossible could cast Judi as Ethan Hunt's housekeeper as their own jab at Bond.
Agreed. Even if he was super amazing in the role, I think it would be a terrible idea to bring him back, what with the way NTTD ended. New M, new Moneypenny, new Q, new Bond, new everything. Clean slate.
That natural gun barrel shot towards the End of NTTD was proof....
If you notice throughout almost each scene/shot of the film with Cary Fukunaga, there is a light blue/turquoise color in each "digital frame"...
Daniel Craig's involvement with each film behind the scenes in the production is something you haven't quite seen from his predecessors and will be missed.
I really wish P&W had found a place for May in NTTD. She could have been in the Garden of Death, tied to the train tracks in the garden by the Spang Brothers, after which she dives off a cliff and fights a giant squid.

That's interesting considering Jamie Dornan may get nominated for Belfast? Dev Patel, Jonathan Majors, Iranian actor Amir Jadidi also in the mix for awards this year.
EON maybe further along with Bond 26 then we realize.
I honestly don't think so, and I don't mean to get anybody's hopes up. Just looking at names that will likely be on the red carpet and may get headlines. Keep in mind it's guaranteed the NTTD crew will also be on that red carpet making headlines, so I don't think anything is actually happening. They don't want to distract from NTTD and they've made that clear, and the Oscars are probably the last big event for the movie.
Alternatively, Variety has reported that Bond will play strong in its usual technical categories but there could be a nod to Cary Fukunaga. It may just be that they want to wait until the Oscars are awarded, finish enjoying NTTD's moment, and then announce they are BEGINNING to cast the net. I bet that's the most likely scenario, if anything. But realistically my doubts are high for any major news this year outside of boring Amazon/MGM merger stuff settling.

Somehow I'm taking the tweet with a grain of salt. It would be nice to get an announcement after the Oscars and I really wish Eon were planning the next film already.
After the ending of NTTD it would be a shame to leave audiences hanging with a dormant Bond for the next 6-10 years or however long they plan on celebrating Daniel's achievement in the role.
Again, I really hope not.
The Jason Bourne movies did absolutely just that. When the one with Jeremy Renner didn’t do as well as the first three, they brought Damon and Greengrass back and just named it Jason Bourne. And it’s the absolute weakest film in the series.

There is a trend these days to have a simple title that's already been used before and just add the word THE.
THE SUICIDE SQUAD, THE BATMAN, etc
Perhaps THE JAMES BOND could be akin to the Truman-Lodge Seinfeld episode THE JIMMY where he refers to himself in the third person?
"Mr. Bond's name is Bond, James Bond, Mr. Bond will have a vodka martini, shaken not stirred".
