    @CraigMooreOHMSS , I'm not understanding....

The people posting here about appreciating one aren't the ones who dragged down another Bond in the thread you mentioned. I had a pop there at those you pointed out in the respective thread too, for what's worth. It's ridiculous, as your pointed out in your edit.

I think i may be losing something in translation, or my post was lost in translation; I wasn't condoning cheap shots at Brozz.

Originally I was responding to a post that mentioned that Brozz was close to Fleming's description of the character. Using the Carmichael excerpt, I disagreed.

One poster said he wish he didn't get the role, or something like that. I mean, that is that person's opinion, and I'm not sure if it was a low-blow, or an opinion with a little humour.

And therefore I mentioned the vitriol fired Craig's way, and it's usually the drive-by posters....

If that's what was meant @peter, then apologies. It didn't read that way.

I've got Covid-- 3 days in-- and the brain fog is real, so perhaps what makes sense in thoughts is coming out terribly in my posts

Always the way! I haven't had Omicron yet, but it seems inevitable seeing as I work in healthcare!

People cite the “very good looking” bit in CR, but nobody brings up the description in MR where Fleming summed up Bond as looking like someone that didn’t belong in a gentleman’s club.

Get well soon @peter! I've steered clear afak for now (and got my booster) but I've got plenty of colleagues sitting at home.
Yes, I was mainly referring to the 'wish' post, which I find a bit too much in an appreciation thread. Perhaps I'm out of sinc with the times but in my book that doesn't qualify as humour.

@CraigMooreOHMSS .... I am hoping this is it. Thankfully I dodged the other outbreaks, but this crafty Omicron seems to be very contagious. And bloody sneaky, lol: I didn't feel well on Saturday with a puffy lymphnode behind my jaw. Tested negative.

    It went away.

Monday I was swallowing fire. Took another test-- Negative.

Tuesday morning, no more soreness in throat, but sounded as if I had laryngitis, so, took a test-- Negative.

Go to the gym on Tuesday morning and had an amazing workout. When I got home, one of my daughters insisted I take another test....Positive....

And that same daughter also tested negative.... Until later that night. She was asymptomatic but tested positive. Now she's coughing up a lung.

My son tested negative and got out of here and back to his university home.

My wife and youngest are still testing negative, but my wife has started to complain about a mild back ache and sore throat, so....it's coming...

@MakeshiftPython , I love that description. He looks like a foreigner in his own country, but it helps him blend into different environments while on assignment...

Hmmm, something to consider in the recasting....

My apologies for being a bit unclear, sometimes it’s hard to engage in everything while on Break. But I mentioned earlier that I think it’s perfectly alright to point out the incorrection in Brosnan looking like Charmichael, because he doesn’t in the slightest, but neither do any of the other actors really, the closest probably is Dalton but even then I don’t see it.

I guess my posts have been largely in response to the original question of why a Brosnan appreciation thread has people coming in and trashing the man, and yeah it was only just one joke, but that joke is still kind of indicative of how some people will sit there and take any opportunity to make a dig at Brosnan. It may be all in good fun, but eventually that good fun gets tiring, especially when people will just bash him for the sake of a good joke. It is all opinion, but if Dalton, Craig, or even Connery received half of the unneeded bashing that Brosnan gets, their fans would be screaming at the top of their lungs. I get not liking Brosnan, and nobody is forcing anybody to change their opinions, but all this bashing of the man really isn’t taking into account the fact that he does have his fans, that he did contribute significantly to the franchise, and that he arguably saved the franchise from death after the Cold War ended. Again, people can dislike Brosnan all they want, but I rarely see people give him the credit he deserves, and it’s gotten to a point where I think that anyone who just takes pointless potshots at him for the same reasons isn’t really contributing anything or saying anything remotely interesting.

EDIT...also really hoping for a speedy recovery Peter! And hoping you and all your family are safe and healthy!

Would it be considered bashing if I opined that being compared to Hoagy Carmichael isn't a real compliment? I guess the guy was okay looking for his time, but he wasn't exactly classically handsome, whereas each of the Bond actors fit that definition better.

Peter, I hope you get better and your family isn't affected, and CraighMooreOHMSS I hope you remain healthy in your position, and the same for all others on these boards here as well. I've been fortunate to be safe, but many at my work have also been out this week and more closings happen every day.

Oh I absolutely agree, Hoagy Charmichael wasn’t exactly the most handsome guy, but I can see why some may have found him attractive. For me it’s always tricky with a solid description of Fleming’s Bond because he sometimes put in descriptions of what Bond looks like, but those descriptions get lost on me in the reading since I’m picturing Connery for the most part.
  • I love Brosnan. He wasn't the best actor nor the best Bond but you believed he was everything we understand James Bond to be and he made the character fun. You'll certainly find me watching his first 3 Bond films more often than the last 3 Bond outings that's for sure.

On another note if Brosnan was younger he could have played David Bowie in some sort of biopic.

Hoagy Charmichael or not, I always thought Brosnan was too pretty for Bond. I’d say the same for Moore, but he always had an elderly man quality to him compared to Brosnan’s more boyish charm.

It’s the same reason I can’t get behind Cavill for Bond. Too pretty. Connery, Dalton, and Craig at least looked like they lead rough lives. I brought up the MR quote because Fleming referred to Bond as “tough looking customer”.

In spite of looking like a L’Oreal spokesman, I thought Brosnan was most convincing as a tough guy in DIE ANOTHER DAY. There’s a certain attitude he carries in that film that he never had in the other films that elevated things. I wish we had more of that from the start.

There's a great bit in Goldeneye when Bond is setting the mines, someone fires at him and Bond just tilts his head out the way like it was nothing. Just another day at the office, great moment for Brosnan's Bond highlight reel

I watched Goldeneye with my nephew last week and I remembered how much I love that film

Great movie, isn't it? What did your nephew think?

He loved it mate, its probably his favourite of the 3 I've shown him (Goldfinger, Goldeneye and The Spy Who Loved Me)
He loves Pierce's Bond, he thinks he's really cool and he keeps quoting lines from the film

Watching Goldeneye (again) this morning...great film...not sure what people are not seeing but Brosnan is definitely a James Bond, plenty of grit, cold, calculating, plenty of energetic action, and still has the safisticated British agent swagger to him.

To be honest, I agree with where your coming from. Brosnan is an extremely handsome man, and perhaps that is what he has going against him, at least for some folks. Although I think Dalton is just as much a pretty boy as Brosnan, and he’s still tough as nails.

Brosnan was out of his pretty boy phase by November Man. That's a tough as nails movie. You can really see there what he could have done with Bond, given the right script....

So much so, that when I first saw November Man, I wondered if Brosnan had chosen to do it for precisely those reasons - to say, look, I asked for more hard-bitten elements in Bond and here's proof that I was up to it. Shame the proposed sequel never materialised.

It’s also that Brosnan has a more high pitched voice compared to the other actors. That’s not his fault, so I don’t want to put that too much against him. It did really stuck out to me when I saw the deepfake of Dalton in GOLDENEYE speaking with the soft voice of Brosnan’s American-Irish accent. It didn’t feel right. :-O

Those deep fakes are really creepy, well done, but creepy, especially Brosnans smirk on Daltons face.
