    When I was a kid RETURN OF THE JEDI seemed to be everyone's favorite at my school, perhaps because it was the newest at the time. I always liked the first film, being a huge Peter Cushing fan.
    I remember my elementary school having an assembly where they showed the first film on VHS. A few years later my middle school had a screening as well only in 16mm. Pity I can't recall if the opening scroll featured the A NEW HOPE title.

    Same here @ToTheRight. Jedi was the first SW movie for me at the theatre. I remember my cousin and I playing with lightsabers after the film. It was really popular at my school as well. Luke acted like a Sith when he got angry at Vader! He lost it.

    While Bond is my dominant franchise, with MI and the Indy franchise my next favorites, I can't deny the impact of Star Wars. I was there in the summer of '77 and watching that first film you knew things changed. I also will continue to refer to it by its title and not that "A New Hope" retcon garbage.

    While Empire remains my favorite, ROTJ remains one of the most disappointing film experiences I've ever had. All this build-up and I was there that opening day and we get a repeat of the first film with teddy bears and the best character turned into a domesticated wimp.

    I was as annoyed by Ep. 1 as anybody but actually enjoyed 2 and 3 for what they were. But they didn't make enough of an impact that I've revisited them despite owning the Blu-ray set. Given I rarely go to movies in the cinema anymore, I didn't go to the latest films but caught the first two on home video and liked them both but have yet to see the Rise of Skywalker, Rogue 1 or Solo.

    That's cool; nicely balanced between the three trilogies. I'm not really one for compiling lists but if I made one off the top of my head (and based on whether I fancy watching a SW film and if it delivers) it'd be:

    Rogue One

    I
    II

    Star Wars is a good film, but just like Dr No, for me it was improved upon by its sequels.

    The Thin Red Line > Saving Private Ryan
    Revenge of the Sith > Return of the Jedi
    The Indiana Jones movies are boring.
    M:I-1 is the best M:I movie.
    The first Lethal Weapon is the only good one, though the others are "fun."

    I’ve never seen The Thin Red Line, but there are several war films I prefer over Saving Private Ryan, I think Das Boot is my favourite though.

    Not curious. Like if someone says Highlander 2 is my favourite Highlander movie.... these opinions are processed in a facility that also processes nuts.

    Let's be real, there's no such thing as a good Highlander movie, it's just that the sequels are like raw sewage next to the original being one-day-expired milk.

    Escape From Alcatraz (Clint Eastwood) is better than the Shawshank Redemption.

    Lando didn t add anything, but all other characers were great. Especially Daisy and Adam.It looked good, had maybe the best score of them all and we got to go to the Emperor s home place, his own Vatican.

    Yeah I liked that; a bit like how I loved the unexpected excellently cheesy moment in Rogue One where we went to Darth Vader’s home and it turns out he lives in a big creepy castle, complete with sinister butler! I thought that was great.

    They are both excellent films.But besides them being both prison movies they couldn’t be more different in tone.Shawshank is very dark in places but also has a lot of humour and quite an uplifting ending.Escape is a more downbeat film,particularly because of its ambiguous ending.

    It wasn't totally pointless. I mean they were able to use the music from it in the desert scene in The Spy Who Loved Me. Where would British culture be without that scene? ;)

    I don t understand the purpose of it. The story is uninteresting, the dialogue is dumb, the performances exaggerated. I know many others love it, so I suppose it serves a purpose for them. It isn t among the worst films I have seen, I just don t ever want to watch it again.
