For example, F9 grossed $200 million this year in China, dropping a 50% compared to the previous one. So yes, the landscape has changed.

The only Bond film that really blew the roof off in the US box office in 30-40 years was Skyfall. If a Bond film hits 200 million here, that’s very successful. Normally, 160-170 million or so range. This is without me looking it up for exact numbers. I never could figure out why Bond films don’t do as well in the states. Casino had a great longevity here, just kept on going, stayed in the theatres for over 6 months. I have to say, I thought NTTD would do better, even with Covid. But for the Bond fans here, I do know that spoilers and Covid did not help. Our state newspaper had spoilers in it! About Bond dying etc before it came out. For whatever reason, it definitely did not do well here.

    Yup, this doing good IMHO.

Doing 650m+ in a pandemic is really good. It will be top 5 movies this year, maybe even higher depending on other movies (and if we count Spider-Man as 2021 movie even tho it will make a lot of money in 2022 too)

I think the studio should be content with this after everything

NTTD now at 605 million...should be able to at least get over 700 million

Surpassing F9 now is basically up to Australia (with a little push from China with another $15/20 million) and I think it will achieve that.

Adjusting for 2021 inflation NTTD has now surpassed OHMSS.

They were boycotting the film because Cena made a unforgivable error, he spoke about Taiwan

While the debate over how profitable (or not profitable) the film will be for the studio will likely continue, it seems it is doing perfectly respectable numbers for a pandemic release. I'd like to see it top F9.

I know the ending of NTTD was polarizing, but if you want to see an example of a film that is genuinely terrible, look no further than F9. ;)

Can we please avoid useless, provocative comments such as these, @Scaramanga1974? No more political insinuations for which you are as yet unable to present irrefutable evidence, please. Thank you.

Doing a quick math, in order to beat F9, Bond basically needs a further $70/75 million from the US/Canada, China and Australia combined.

It's doable if NTTD makes another $15-20M in the US/CAN, another $20M in China and $30-50M in Australia. I also think NTTD has yet to open in the Philippines and Malaysia, which may add another $8-10M. Also, current markets will continue to generate diminishing revenue. $700M is a lock. I think $750M is possible.

I apologise. I guess it's no time to lie!

No Time To Die Set to Beat ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in UK

    https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/no-time-to-die-overtake-avengers-endgame-britain-box-office-1235039986/

NTTD is now £85.9m total in the UK.

That would be awesome and crazy, but I think it’s gonna finish at £97 million. One thing I noticed is that NTTD has better legs than even SF. On its fifth weekend NTTD made £3.5 mil, SF made £3.2.

Good Monday in China were Bond was able to keep The Battle at Lake Changjin on the second spot. NTTD cume now stands at $31.6 million after four days, almost surpassing Dune that came out a week before.
It would be great if Bond will be able to drop only a 50% next weekend. That would generate a $50 million gross in China after two weeks.

    Quick question/speculation:

Universal was the distribution arm for an international release. But Universal was NOT involved with distribution in the U.S. and Canada, correct?

    And where did NTTD "underperform?"

I think it’s fair to say based on Daniels previous 4 films, America has been disappointing?

Yes, but you never know how much the Covid-situation plays a role in this.

Aside from SF, Bond hasn’t really been a big deal in the US since 60s Bondmania. It’s done respectable business, but nothing close to what other big films achieved. Bond has very much been bigger internationally.

Interesting! Since when do they not post the production budget on there anymore for newer films, btw? I noticed this for some time now even there is at least a "rumoured" budget like for NTTD, too?

Adjusting for inflation NTTD (that will finish its run at $150 million) ends up being the lowest grossing Bond film in NA since LTK.

Worldwide things are better and now stands at #15 behind GE. If NTTD will be able to reach $735 million globally it will surpass the adjusted cume of QoS ending up at #11.
  • I think its safe to conclude that NTTD has definitely not been a flop regardless of what some doom mongers are claiming. The US box office performance has been disappointing but Bond is a global franchise.

To be fair Bond's performance in NA is perfectly in line with F9's performance. F9 dropped a 23.5% from the previous one, and NTTD will basically drop the same compared to SP. Plus, NTTD has an older - more reluctant - demographic and Venom's release slightly damaged its performance as well. October was very crowded.
To sum up: NTTD did just... okay but thinking about it I wouldn't judge it so disappointing.

I can only speak anecdotally, but the two showings I went to were PACKED, including a middle of the day weekday showing just last Thursday.

Packed after 3 weeks probably means that word of mouth is catching on in the US.

Like I said, I can only speak from my own experience - maybe my theater is just a busy one - but yeah, I was shocked that much later that so many people were still seeing it.

Bond in China is still dominating 40% of market share even if it lost 4500 screens compared to yesterday. It has now surpassed Dune with a $34 million gross.

Why is it that films in China drop so quickly? Films play for many weeks/months internationally, but not there?
