A youthful look is an asset; he is steadily growing into his looks and will continue to do so. Bond 26 will not hit the screens for another 5 to 6 years. If they want an actor for a 10 to 15 years Hoult will be the perfect age.

There's that as well. And even someone looking younger than his age, like Moore or Brosnan, end up looking their age sooner or later.

Are women that crazy about Hoult? He's not ugly or anything, but doesn't seem super handsome or distinguishing either. He's a candidate that's great on paper and just underwhelms a bit in reality, at least to me. To me there's nothing particularly exciting about him outside of him just "checking all the boxes." I guess they could do worse though.

It's interesting someone mentioned Harry Lloyd, because I was just thinking about him for Bond a couple weeks ago, and moved him up my Bond Candidate list on IMDB. Not that it's a ranked list, but candidates I like more are closer to the top. I was thinking about making a post in here about him, but didn't. There is something I like about him. He's debonair and charming. It's not too surprising when you know he's from the Dickens family too (I believe he's the great-great grandson of Charles Dickens). On the other hand when I watch Hoult in anything, whether it's a movie or an interview I just don't really feel anything.

I’m not sure women were all that crazy about Moore or Brosnan though, really. They’re handsome but sort of sexless. You’ll obviously anecdotally get one here or there. It’s fairly rare for a Bond to have massive sex appeal I think.

Hoult has a lot of female admirers. There are things I'm not confident about when considering Hoult as 007, but his attractiveness to women is not one of them.

I think it's a shame that Adam Driver is both American and super famous. He has all the ingredients to play a moody, intense 007.

The problem I have with Page (not personally obviously) is that he seems to have only reached some kind of stardom due to being attractive as opposed to his acting. It seems to be the only talking point with him at the moment.

The same can be said of most actors, especially females. Folk like Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron, Ryan Gosling, Angelina Jolie and George Clooney all got their breaks based on their looks. The reason they have endured is because they are also talented.

Some pretty faces do fade away once it's revealed that's all they are. However, based off his performance in Bridgerton alone, I wouldn't say Page has reached that stage. Though we haven't yet seen him in a purely dramatic role. So, I'll admit he could be be a terrible actor. I hope he gets the chance to make a thriller over the next few years. Adam Driver broke out with Girls and it was Star Wars that demonstrated how talented he was. Now he's the busiest actor in Hollywood.

Hoult is definitely a finalist. But don't sleep on Harris Dickinson. If Eon wanted to chase the A24/Euphoria crowd, he'd be an interesting 007. He was terrific in Beach Rats, has a leading role in the new Kingsman and is getting good reviews for The Souvenir Part 2.

I think Daniel Craig's casting in 2005 is the biggest indicator that Eon won't cast conventionally. They'll hire the best man for the job

If you look at Daniel's casting, he wasn't the tallest, probably not the best looking and he maybe wasn't the biggest name but he was comfortably the most talented, with the most potential to make James Bond relevant again.

I do think they'll hire someone who looks tough or somebody who , with the right stylist, will look assured as Commander James Bond. Which is perhaps something that you can't say for a few of these names if I'm honest

Quite an interesting thought, I could imagine him doing that really nicely.

I'm afraid his role in The King's Man may disbenefit him as a hypothetical candidat. If Vaughn's film is a success, Dickinson will likely return for sequels and be recognized as the actor who portrays sort of a WW1 Bond; on the other hand, if the movie underperforms financially, then Dickinson will be associated with a box-office failure. In both case, I suppose he wouldn't be a very appealing profile for Eon.

Nevertheless, based on the first images from The King's Man, I think he could be a great contender.

Based only on the Gif above, he comes off as a sniveling psychopath rather than Bond.

Possibly he comes off betting the bigger picture.

I wonder how much Eon pay attention to box office figures of potential candidates? Of course they'll be a factor, but the individual performance of the candidate would be the biggest factor. Just guessing?

I can't say about Moore, but from my experience, among my circle of female friends, yes, Brosnan was considered hot when GE was released. Then again he was the taste of the time and a lot people's idea of what a Bond actor should be like. People's view changed gradually as his tenure went on.

Yeah I doubt they'd worry about box office too much as they'd be bringing that with 007: I would imagine they just want someone who can do the job. And my guess is that means a leading man who has starred in a movie or two and proven himself, I don't think it has to be hit movie because a performance on its own won't guarantee that.

From Connery to Craig, none of the Bond actors have been high profile
“ heartthrobs “ , and none of them had proven to be box office draws.

He was also voted Sexiest Man Alive in 2001. I think it's pretty safe to say he had huge sex appeal, worldwide, when he was Bond.

With a conk like that, Adam Driver would make a good Shadow.

Connery and Craig have both been pretty serious heartthrobs: Connery was always being called sexiest man alive and all that, and there was loads of stuff about Craig in the press around the time of Casino Royale getting released about him being a sex symbol, which lead up to some company making an ice lolly of his torso so punters could have a lick.

Prior to being cast they may have had some recognition but it was not high profile, and none were boxoffice draws.

Oh prior to being cast as Bond; I get what you mean now, yes. Sure, that’s true.
I guess Dalton’s Wuthering Heights may have set hearts a flutter, I don’t know. Roger was a big successful international star, just not in movies.

I feel the day will come when Barbara and Michael cave in to studio pressure and cast an A lister as Bond just based on his box office appeal.

Therefore I hereby advocate this guy to come out of retirement and take over as the new James Bond. He's an excellent actor, a box office draw and can play anything............also the ladies always loved him...............

Aside from maybe Pierce in 94, have Eon ever cast the early odds on favourite?

    The usual drivel...

I don't think those posting these stories even look at who they're nominating half the time.

Many of those listed are simply going to be too old. As you say, drivel, but like us they have nothing concrete to talk about.

I think the Scottish actor Stuart Martin, would have been a good choice for Bond but I don't think he has enough film experience and he's 35 now, perhaps his time has passed

To compensate for a weak lower face, his looks are too dependent on a beard

Very true mate, I think he looks a bit tougher than some of the candidates but yeah he needs facial hair

With and without a beard, his appearance is really night and day.

I know this is click bait but... James Norton is favourite now? I sure hope not!

I don't know whether it's because Daniel is my favourite Bond and I'm biased towards his interpretation of the character but I can't see any of these "favourite's" being a good enough replacement.
In Norton's case I've only seen McMafia but he was so wooden and forgettable
I'm sure Eon will no doubt prove me wrong when Bond #7 is unveiled though
