The acronym DAD reads basically as "Dad."

In fact, I think I've mentioned this before, but I actually read the acronyms as what they sound like: AVTAK to me is Av (like avenue) - tack. It's weird. I don't like it and want it to stop.

I’ve always done that- I guess I just assumed that everyone did too? I guess not?

How do you pronounce TMWTGG, then?

It takes longer to say the letters than the full title.

I must say that I probably never have spoken conversations using the abbreviations. But at worst, I'd use those that can be pronounced like an acronym: YOLT, DAF, DAD, TWINE, maybe LALD. But, for instance, spelling out TMWTTG means you have to say one syllable more than if you'd say the full film title. Same with FRWL. Same with TWINE unless you say it as a word.

Reminds me of the scene from Billy Wilder's One, Two, Three (1961), where the girl says "Just tell Daddy I'm on my way to the U - S - S - R. That's short for Russia."

That one my brain just converts to The Man With The Golden Gun. No acronym or weird reading of the acronym letters for that one.

Not sure if this one belongs in this thread, or the "References in Pop Culture." But I recently re-watched Coppola's 1974 classic, The Conversation. The film features a surveillance company called Spectre.

On the topic of these acronyms, I recently noticed that my phone's autocorrect recognizes most of them! This lockdown has clearly had an effect on my internet Bond chatting habits....

    And a better script too.

Do people say all of on "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"? Shorten it to Ohms? Majesty?

I don't know if anyone here plays StarCraft, but iPhone autocapitalizes a lot of proper nouns from that game Makes me think there's a fan somewhere in the development team at Apple. Maybe Bond too?

Haha, no, it comes from using the words and abbreviations yourself that you train your autocorrect.

I've never noticed the large lizard (on the right of the picture) as Bond and Quarrel hide their boat on Crab Key.

Could be the 'dragon' everybody kept mentioning....

Isn't that Norbert, the Norwegian Ridgeback? (Not to be confused with the Norwegian Blue, the ex-parrot who's pining for the fiords.)

I feel sheepish to admit this but I hadn't realized that in LALD that they talk about the shark gun quite a bit leading up the reveal at the very end. I had not noticed or remembered that Quarrel Jr. had mentioned it on the beach to Bond. Weird.

Can someone confirm this...is Connery's Bond the only one to sing and dance?

DN sings Underneath the Mango Tree to Honey on the beach
TB dances with Fiona and Domino

I could even add in NSNA where he tangos with Domino. Odd that he's the only one who does both. Or am I wrong?

@thedove I'm pretty sure that he never sings again. This is even mentioned in a Empire magazine issue.

I've thought about this before. When I'm having an actual in person or phone conversation with another Bond fan, which I often do, these are the terms I find myself using without forethought. In other words, I use the verbal shorthand below without even realizing that I am most of the time. Those not listed, obviously, are the ones that I find myself naturally using the full title for.

    Russia
    Only Live Twice
    Majesty's
    Diamonds
    Golden Gun
    Spy
    Eyes
    Never Say Never
    View
    Daylights
    Licence
    Tomorrow
    Twine
    Casino
    Quantum

Sorry but this is a big pet peeve of mine. Even when the cast and crew use them. Drives me crazy.

    Heh! That's a fun observation.

I rather liked the NSNA tango bit, I wouldn't mind Bond doing something like that again.

I remember at the time of release the publicity was about the dance and how it would show a different side of the character. I agree with you @mtm that it's a nice scene and a great way to handle some story exposition while also showing some movement and character.

I like the romance of Bond and Domino in TB. When she melts into and says "the way you hold me." The back and forth with Fiona is also handled nicely.

Based on the night club scenes featured in NTTD teaser maybe Craig will join Connery as the only 2 to dance?

I think Dalton could have pulled a scene like that off. He looked pretty dashing dancing with Jennifer Connelly in THE ROCKETEER.

I blame Jennifer Connelly for that she is an amazing actress, she makes Dalton look good too.
