Don't shoot the messenger (he doesn't believe in the message!), he's merely bringing you news:

Pierce Bronan has told USA Today that he approves of a female James Bond: “I’m ready for a woman to play it. I think it would be magnificent to see a woman play it."
He added, "I think we've watched the guys do it for the last 40 years. Get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting." However, "I don't think that's going to happen with the Broccolis. I don't think that is going to happen under their watch." Nevertheless, he says Bond must cope with the present "The #MeToo movement has been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they'll have to address that."

In part this is polite pandering; If he really believes that a female Bond is viable, then thank goodness he has no control of the franchise.

I've read that before. Pierce was most likely high on life and probably had the best sex ever just before blessing with his input regarding the future of Bond.
  • While not concerning any one particular potential Bond. We discuss the age of an actor in relation to the Bond role a lot. Do any of you think the age might actually go a little older as most of these actors in the thier 30s these days do not look that old. Look at Connery at 32 when he started Bond and look at some actors in thier 40s today they look younger than Connery. So, my question is do you think since we are in a time where people are not maturing as fast that maybe a actor might be in the running despite their actual age?
  • I'll confess to not having seen 'Bodyguard' yet. But isn't this guy James Bond?

Having just seen Rocketman, I have to say Madden has to be frontrunner. Surely? He has so much sexual charisma in that film. He has a number of close-ups that just make you think 'James Bond'. He has a predatory sense of danger. Something innately sexy........I think he may be the guy to beat. Plus, he's young and a good actor.

How does one get a strategically placed strike of silver hair? Must look into that.

Seriously now, yeah, I'd be glad if they cast him. Accent and all.

You're probably confusing your innately sexual attraction towards him with being the next potential Bond. He's also ridiculously short.

He is shorter than the character yes, but ridiculously short? He's 1,77m. Is that ridiculously short? I suppose I'm Peter Dinklage, then.

    Richard Madden - 33 (1,77m)
    Henry Cavill - 36 (1,85m)
    Aidan Turner - 36 (1,83m)
    Tom Mison - 37 (1,85m)
    Dan Stevens - 37 (1,83m)
    Aaron Taylor-Johnson - 29 (1,80m)
    Tom Barnes - 38 (1,85m)
    Harry Lloyd - 36 (1,80m)
    Matthew McNulty - 37 (1,78m)
    Tom Hughes - 34 (1,85m)
    Tom Hiddleston - 38 (1,88m)
    Jack Huston - 37 (1,82m)
    Theo James - 34 (1,83m)

Just thought I'd organise this. if someone remembers anyone else, please inflate the list.

BTW, looking at that list, I think they'll all be too old. Maybe we should be looking for people in their late 20s.

Madden does give the appearance of a morphing of Brosnan and young Connery.

Being a Richard is a plus.

Madden has the looks, acting, talent, but... at 5'8'' it hurts me to say, he is too short. Damn he would be the only one named that I'd run with after Craig. But if his real height is 5'8... Damn...

Oh, of course, damn it, one of my personal favourites, and I forgot. Let's get him on the list, pronto.

To address the elephant in the room, in addition to being on the shorter side, there are indications that he is gay. Without arguing if an openly gay actor could be cast, I don’t think at that point EON would.
So, two strikes against him .

An openly gay Bond can work. If I may be so controversial, I'd like to nominate Neil Patrick Harris. He is chameleonic with accents and I do not see his American origins as an obstacle. Furthermore, he is rumored to be playing a villain in The Matrix 4, and he was very convincing in a serious capacity.

Our dream choices will inevitably reject the role... look at Clive Owen, Mel Gibson, Sam Neill, and Idris Elba. It will be someone we do not suspect, and I fully expect NPH!

There are still rumours that Jackman is gay. And these rumours are the inside rumours of the film industry.

And that ultimately means: if these two are gay, then, in the end, what’s the big deal at this point? They can play hungry and impulsive het-males. Which means they’re damn fine for the role, regardless of their private life.

Rumors are one thing, photographic documentation is another. Jackman is married and appears to truly love his wife.
Comparing the two is in inequivalent.

What an actor is in his real life doesn't concern me one bit. And it's got nothing to do with a role. What, a gay person can't play heterosexual now? Or vice versa? Please.

Hey @talos7 , I sincerely didn’t hear that Madden was gay. In the end, that actually wouldn’t bother me since he was so kick ass in the Bodyguard.

Is there photographic evidence? Where is that (other than screenshots of him acting as Elton John’s lover)?

There is photographic evidence of John Travolta kissing his male lover here in Toronto. Does that mean he couldn’t play Vincent Vega??.... (or any of his other het-roles in, well, all of his films)?

Hugh Jackman married a woman much older than he and they adopted. It has dogged him for years he is gay. But....

IF he was would that take away his portrayal of Wolverine? Or from The Prisoner?

    We know the answer.

    It’s no.

Who gives a damn about an actor's sexual orientation?

All of that aside, would EON want the next Bond actor arriving, to the premier of Bond 26, hand in hand with his male partner? I doubt it.

Why not? Aren't we in 2019, heck, almost in 2020? Isn't that redundant as hell by now? Does anyone care? Cause we bloody well shouldn't. I don't. As long as the character remains a hot blooded heterosexual, just as it was written, I don't care about the actor who portrays it personal sexuality.

Speaking of Richard Madden-- as far as a quick google search will reveal: he isn't gay in the slightest.

Personal opinion: if he was (he doesn't appear to be), I think Eon could make it work, but, since Madden is 5'8-- this a moot argument.

I will say his talent, masculinity and prowess would make him a worthy successor of Craig-- certainly more than Hiddleston, Cavill and Turner.

But being 5'8 takes him out of the race in my eyes, unfortunately...

    And that’s your choice.
I have worked as a hairstylist for 33 years; I have many gay friends; only two weeks ago I attended a gay wedding. I am not a “ homophobe and consider myself very accepting and tolerant, but when it comes to James Bond, my preference is that he be portrayed by a straight actor. So, that makes me intolerant, a hater?
Where is the tolerance and open mindedness for my preferences?
There seems to be a few tall horses around here.

Whoah-whoa-whoah @talos7 ... I did NOT say you were intolerant nor a hater. I just said:

1/where is the photographic evidence that Madden is gay?
    1a/ This still wouldn't bug me if he was gay and portraying James Bond, because;
    1b/he has the chops, apart from height, to play 007 in all of his traits;
    2/there is photographic evidence of John Travolta being gay, but;
2b/if he is as gay as evidence proves, he still played all of his het-roles convincingly and, in other cases, was the perfect man for the role (Vincent Vega et al)
3/there are rumors of Hugh Jackman's sexuality for years; if true-- could he not play Bond?
3b/whether Jackman is gay or not, he could play Bond.

I know you @talos7 and I DO NOT THINK you're a hater not intolerant.

@peter I know that , and I did not intend to engage in an ideological battle.
My point is that there are realities of whee were are today, and from a business point , I don’t think EON would select an openly gay actor at this time. Now, one Bond beyond that, who knows.
Also personal preference does not reflect a person’s acceptance for another’s orientation and lifestyle.
I am very accepting , and tolerant of lifestyles that aren’t mine, I can accept gay actors portraying straight characters; but when it comes to Bond, my preference is that he be portrayed by a straight actor. I don’t ask that everyone agree with that , but show tolerance .

an openly gay actor playing Bond isn't the problem , his playing a straight Bond would be , Ian McKellen for one would be all over the media asking why he wasn't playing a gay Bond , i don't see EON handing someone a stick to beat them with , link to ian McKellen 's thoughts https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/ian-mckellen-gay-james-bond_n_594d37dce4b0da2c731b2c82?ri18n=true&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAMrZgNmrXNA6ALRpEueu82bQyrlMu_0ga64_h1R9M3CifL1ENzWzrt-_5DFur7G_2lkLVZoRWUTDuTbfJutjEyMkKFFx_U6q9AgwHPnyr67RpXU0P3RQ9zRGAlWUJMuBbGh2IiJetaD6xPDYA73bX-BpBrBbmQ87YupnbOTO4JV4

Good lord, Clive Owen was someone's dream choice? People talk about Cavill being a little stiff, but compared to Owen he is like Brando
