Don't you think that's also a repeat of Miranda Frost working for MI6 when her true allegiance lies with the main villain of the film @007Blofeld? Not so much the "power couple" as you put it, but more of a double agent scenario. Also, I think you're taking the trailer as chronologically correct. Clearly, Niomi isn't going to be shoehorned into every single scene that has Bond in it. It wouldn't surprise me in the least when M asks where 007 is, the movie cuts to the scene of the commando-style assault that proceeds it, with Niomi being the person wearing the balaclava, whipping it off to reveal that it's not Bond but Lashana Lynch doing all the fighting and Bond-like stuff. Well, that's my hunch.

Thing is I zoom in on one shot of that assault and before the explosion on one shot the computers its Safins head with a white mask! 😮 At least they look like computers and the sprinklers are going off their are definitely bodys on the floor.

Hhmmm, interesting. You could well be right @007Blofeld. I haven't studied the screen grabs in any great detail but if you're seeing Safin's presence there, it's quite feasible that it's Safin doing the industrial sabotage stuff and not Niomi.
Also I am loving it that none of you could figure out the plot yet :))
My guess is that Safrin is using the algae to help 'purify' the water contaminated from nuclear waste but it's just an environmental cover story for his own nefarious, diabolical plan, which is the rejuvenation of dead human skin cells. In part, resurrecting the dying or the now deceased. A modern-day Victor Frankenstein, if you will. This might explain why the scaring on his face doesn't look as severe as it does from the earlier scenes.

I've just looked at that in 2K. It actually looks to be some sort of bio-enclosure/sealed chamber with a few mannequin heads inside. There's black rings around them, too, which is very odd

Ok, I thought of a thing that the studio might do...

Imagine if Malek is actually Dr. No...

It turns out he is Dr. No, he somehow escapes and we all think he is dead or whatever

    Bond is 007 again.

There's some explanation and Bond has to go to a casino or whatever.

    Last shot:

Dark-haired woman is therere as sort of a dealer.

The camera goes behind a man in a tuxedo who is playing on the table.

    The woman says

    "I admire your luck Mister.."

    -Bond. James Bond.

We don't see the face of Bond, we just hear it, and that's how it ends.

    Full circle with Dr. No.

I am not saying this will happen but I believe there's at least 1% possibility of this happening.

    What would you think?

And what would you think if Dr. No is actually Malek?

A reminder of why fans should never be in charge.

    Indeed.

I wonder when we will finally put that Dr.No thing to rest.

Now, now, @M_Blaise. With respect to @dragonsky, I don't think he was suggesting for one minute that this was what he wished for, but more a case of what he thought the producers might have in store for us. It's just a unsubstantiated theory of his, not a desire to see it actually happen.

To sum it all up, do you think that Safin will be Dr No as well?

I for one thougt that Malek's "no" was a lot more convincing than Waltz's.

I think this has only come about because Malik mentioned Dr. No the film in an interview, they've filmed in Jamaica and CBS ran that article saying he was playing Dr. No.

Yes, and because no other Bondmovie has been speculated to death like NTTD...

No, no, I do not @JamesCraig. I think Malek is playing a similar type of character as Dr No but it isn't actually him per se. I think the producers told Malek to go watch Dr No as an idea of what sort of villain he would be playing, which was part of Broccoli's pitch in luring him for the role. Evidently Malek was worried about being typecast as an Islamic terrorist, so being told he'd be more of a villain in the Dr No mould helped ease his fears. I believe this was the sole reason why Malek answered Dr No as his favourite Bond movie when he was asked, because the movie had been part of his own personal research, was still fresh in his mind, and his own character would be built upon similar traits and ambitions.

In the German trailer Blofeld says "you" (Wenn ihr Geheimnis ans Licht kommt, wird das dein Tod sein). That settles it.

Nothing settled for me, when my ears tell me he's so obviously saying "him" on the English trailer I've seen.
We'll see, come April. That'll settle it!

Christoph Waltz has dubbed his own text for the German version. You don't really think he would not know his script?

Funny bit: In the trailer you see Blofeld's birth date as 04.07.1946. Waltz's birthdate is 04.10.1956. They made him 10 years older.

The line is "you." Chinagraph London, the editors of the trailer, have confirmed it.

I agree that his saying “you” makes more sense, if he’s talking to Bond; but having listened countless times, on three different sources, every time it sounds crystal clear like “him” , so strange.

To me it definitely sounded like “him.” But if we have confirmation, I’ll rest my case.

There's definitely a science as to why we hear different things. Has to do with the frequencies we can and can't hear. To me, it was clear he was saying you. At least we can put this to rest now.

He is talking to Bond. I checked those two clips carefully. The lighting matches, of course. But if you go to the part where Blofield says the line in question, we see the right arm of who's in the room. (It's dark, but it can be seen). That shot of Blofield in his cage is at eye level. If this were Madeleine in the room, we would see the slope of her right shoulder because she is not that tall. It has to be Bond.

Its interesting how when we get to Safins base we don't see nomi anymore you think Safin and Nomi are like a power couple drawing inspiration from Cary's first Bond film he saw a view to a kill and she is a flip of May Day instead of bad to good it's good to bad. The elevator with the fire in the beginning of the trailer reminds me of the climax of a view to a kill in city hall. I zoomed in and one looks like nomi the other I would have to double check. Plus there characters are grouped together with the posters Bond and Madeleine are grouped then its Safin and Nomi and then its polma and q at least on Twitter. Facebook they are next to each other.

I'd love that because I think it would make a great last mission for Daniel's Bond
It would make more sense as to why we the audience should care about Nomi
I also think it would be a fantastic misdirect from the trailer

I've just watched the trailer for the 4th time today and I'm ashamed to say the fantastic arrangement of the guitar riff of the Bond theme went over my head, the first 3 viewings. That was such a great moment

Also I really love that line "history isn't kind to men who play God." That is amazing I was so drawn to that viewing it this time. It's such a Bond moment

Unless , perhaps triggered by something she’s heard during Bond’s session, Madeleine enters the interrogation room after Bond leaves and confronts Blofeld.

Can't stop rewatching the trailer (I expected this would happen...). I'm trying to not get my hopes up too high, but it certainly brings a lot of excitement every time I look at it. I agree with @talos7 there is some misdirection in the trailer (for instance, I'm pretty sure Nomi will indeed be 007, but they conveniently left it out in the trailer, just calling her a "00"; I wouldn't even be surprised in the final film if the line from Craig instead of "You're a double OO?" is "So you're the new 007" or something to that effect). My favorite line is "History isn't kind to men who play God"; very Bondian line/moment. I'm most optimistic Safin is going to be a fantastic villain; just based on the trailer, he's the most intimidating Bond villain in many years.

The fact that she calls him "Commander Bond" as opposed to "007" (as he is referred by everyone at MI6) suggests what we thought: he is no longer a double-0.

It’s definitely Bond opposite him in that moment. You can see his right arm. There’s nothing tricksy about it. I think people are reading way too much into it (yes, I know that’s what people do on here).

@TripAces that is right in my face and I didn't even think about it. Great point
Is that the first time Daniel's Bond is referred to as commander by the way?
  • Who else is devastated that Blofeld doesn't have his iconic look? Seems like such a terrible waste. Though, already in his brief scene in the trailer, Waltz seems in finer form than he did in SP

Thank you. I have a feeling I'll be watching this after work

@Pierce2Daniel I think it's because of Dr Evil. Plus it would be jarring to see him bald and with the scar, when that wasn't set up really. But who knows

Daniel I think say it best in this interview, when talking about Bond and Austin Powers

I don't mind them playing with the look a bit. His screen portrayal has never been anything like the 300 pound guy in the novels anyways. I think the scar is enough of a nod to the iconic Pleasance while not being a direct copy.

He wasn't in the books either, I'm glad they're giving him a Flemingian look.
