It’s disapointing to see people’s lack of enthusiasm when it comes to this series. I had high hopes for the Oddjob run, but it seems to me the writers don’t quite understand how to treat Oddjob correctly.

Greg Pak was very open about why he wanted the gig in the first place.
He wanted more representation for asian characters (he's half asian or something). In this case he tried to turn Oddjob into a semi heroic figure. God knows why.

And it's a pity because the first 2 issues, where Oddjob was still portrayed as an antagonist to Bond, were very good (The first issue still remains one of my favorites in the entire catalogue). Now the whole series just feels like it's wandering aimlessly without a lead character.

But that is just my opinion, maybe someone else enjoys this run.
At least Bond gets some good moments here and there, and the character is not misrepresented like in The Body.

We still have 3 issues to go so i will keep my final verdict till it's finished.

I haven’t read the Oddjob series yet, but why would you make Oddjob in particular a goodie. I haven’t ever watched Goldfinger and thought ‘wow I wish Bond and Oddjob would team up and stop this bomb going off’. Why not create a new awesome character of colour and leave a positive mark on the series instead of ruining existing characters.

On another note, I bought the hardcover for Origin and really enjoyed it. Not quite my favourite, I much prefer Bond working for MI6 as an adult. Despite that it’s nice seeing Bond in a different period of his life without it falling into many of the traps that other prequels fall into. I found the end of the sixth issue particularly effective.

He should have just written a spin-off for Tiger Tanaka instead. Or a Tiger - Bond Team up. A retelling of YOLT, why not?
I would have loved to read that, especially with the badass Tiger from the Felix Leiter spinoff.

That would have made sense. I'm with you there.

So since Dynamite is calling it "the finale", i guess this will be the end of the series. Can't wait to hold this one in my hands finally.

The finale, it seems. Well, we’ll see what else Dynamite is cooking up for the world of James Bond.

However, Jeff Parker retweeted a minor response.

i'm really curious to see how this issue unfolds because the last one seemed to me like they could have squeezed another 3 issues out of where the story was heading.

    Fantastic final issue to Origin.
Hope there will be more coming, but i don't want them to force it.
Better to leave on a high note.

Overall i would say Origin is one of the best Bond series that Dynamite has produced so far.
From art to story telling everything is top notch.

It really is excellent and the art is brilliant. The first issue is truly something magnificent in particular.

Currently listening through podcasts by the James Bond Complex about some of the Dynamite comics. I really wish more fans would be interested in reading these comics, as they have been where I have got my Bond fix over the last four years!

Recieved my Hardcover collection for Origin Vol. 1 today after months of delay. Gotta say it was worth the wait, a nice addition to my collection and best of all they included the Short story from Playboy.
Origin HC Vol. 2 comes out in November.

Ooh. The HC will be worth picking up then along with the other issues.

Gotta say I read James Bond #10 and I wasn't impressed. I don't know what your feelings were on it. Shame. There's something about the pacing in this that just feels so weird to me.

Yeah i didn't like it at all, another pointless issue, and the artist they got now for these last 3 issues is a let down. But i don't like being a negative nancy on here, we got enough of those on the forum. I rather talk about good news. Yeah Goldfinger isn't going anywhere i would like it to go, and i'm afraid that won't change for the last two issues. But apparently there are people who like it.

I will only ever get vocal when I see Bond being bastardized and PC'ed for some BS agenda. GF is not that, it's just lame.... But there were some good moments and great artists (not enough overall i'm afraid)

I much rather focus on Live and Let die for now. I hope they won't delay it because i wanna buy it on the 5th of October when i'm in London.

Lovely all those other Dynamite comic books. But what counts for me are the true comic book adaptations of the Fleming novels in chronological order.

I already bought two editions of the upcoming "Live And Let Die" comic book, one of which is signed by the author Van Jensen (and I have to say, what a wonderful guy he is, always very open and easy to approach on Twitter!). Because it now seems this will be an ongoing series. Van Jensen told me though, that adapting a novel into a comic book is perhaps more challenging than writing an original new Bond comic book.

The amount of time he invests in (re-)reading the actual Bond novels is a task I couldn't do myself. He has to maintain the 'feel' of the original novel, while also maintaining Fleming's rich prose, which is full of details. That's……..one helluva task!

I wrote a review for jamesbond.nl about "Casino Royale", which I truly loved and, in a way, is so much better than the original newspaper comic from the 1950's.

So, "Live And Let Die", that's the one I'm waiting for :-).

Down below the artwork for "Casino Royale" and its successor, "Live And Let Die", which arrives in stores next month:

Having learned that the upcoming James Bond-film "No Time To Die" will be set in Jamaica (and having seen some of the Jamaica images, I hadddd to reread the novel "Live And Let Die"), I am especially looking forward to the new Dynamite comic book adaptation of "Live And Let Die".

One last thing, I think it will be these Van Jensen comics that eventually will become very valuable in someone's collection. It's only a matter of waiting for the next Fleming-novel to be adapted :-).

The CR graphic novel was fantastic. I'm really looking forward to LALD. I'm thinking the art style in LALD might be more my preference but there's no denying there's some fantastic stand out panels in CR.

Over James Bond 007... You're definitely right. It's not worth being negative over. On that thought, I actually don't think it's all bad. I think some of it has been pretty decent - particularly the earlier issues. I do hope it can redeem itself before the end. As you said the art in the earlier issues is pretty good!

Personally I love the art in Origin. It's so well drawn (among everything else that makes it pretty good!)

I think the Daily Express newspaper strips didn't really come alive until the adaptation of OHMSS, which benefited from an increased run-time. Before then the strips tended to come off as digests of the novels, rather than proper adaptations.

If they had released the first issue of Oddjob as a one shot, i would've put it next to Solstice as one of the greatest of them all. I still do.

I was so ridiculously hyped back then, just for the art. And the Story delivered too. Just for that one issue.
The first issue of Goldfinger is also pretty great, strangely enough.
I think the next two issues will just focus on the new scooby gang we have now, saddly.

Here's the part where I get my Bond fan badge revoked. LALD is the only Fleming I haven't read, and to be honest I've kind of been waiting to read the graphic novel first and then experience the novel, just as an interesting experience.

OK. Can someone list for me in order all the Dynamite James Bond comic books? I'm assuming each series is now available as a graphic novel/trade paperback?

Every book on that list is available as HC, but not all are available as TBP because Dynamite releases those much later, about a year after the HC.
Personally i prefer the HC anyway.

I'll grant that I'm more interested in the Fleming adaptations than any other Bond comic... but I still enjoy "those others" for what they are.

(Okay, aside from "The Body." That pretty much sucked. But the others have been okay.)

The problem is, a proper Bond story needs a lot of different elements in it to really touch all the bases we look for... and a 20 page monthly comic book just doesn't have the space to fit all those elements in. Those who are willing to wait for the collections may very well have a different experience of the stories than I do... but I think a good monthly comic is an art form all its own, and the Bond series just works better for me as a full novel or a big screen movie, than as a 20 page monthly "floppy." The full Fleming adaptations work for me in a way that the new comics storylines just haven't been able to. I'll still support them, but I look forward to the Fleming adaptations with a lot more enthusiasm.

October 8th. Also at Long Beach comic-con this weekend, the new writers will be there. Maybe some news is coming...
