    I wouldn't want him to direct a Bond, as he's lost his edge, plenty of better
    Directors out there.

    I recall that Cubby Broccoli didn't want him to be a Bond director anyway. Spielberg's too big a directorial name to helm a Bond film. It would be seen as a Spielberg film first and a Bond film very much second and that's surely not a good thing.

    Bit of a poor comment from Spielberg. He could have lowered his fee if he were serious about doing Bond. But no American director has ever directed a Bond film so it's unlikely he was ever going to get a chance. He may have reinvented history to suggest he was too expensive to hire - his comment suggests he has quite a big ego - when he must have known EON were against hiring American directors.

    Steven Spielberg would be the man to stop the course Craig-Mendez set the series upon. He could return the fun and Craig would probably jump to do his next 007 outing with none other than one of the greatest directors of our time.

    I don't know how they got on during filming of Munich but, presuming they did, this would be a cinematic event Dan surely would not want to miss out on.

    I have my reservations over whether Spielberg is right for Bond but on balance I'm happy to take the risk, although EON would need to keep a tight reign on any CGI prairie dogs.

    I do think Spielberg would bring his A game to it though as it would clearly be a one off and Dan's last. I reckon a Dan/Spielberg combo (with everyone knowing it would be Dan's last) that pulled out all the stops in a YOLT/MR style romp could easily hit the billion mark again.

    The big questions are would EON be prepared to pay for Spielberg and whether he would even do it?

    It's something I'd like to see but also wouldn't be devastated if it didn't happen - although if he could deliver a mash up of Raiders, Munich and Bridge of Spies with a dash of Minority Report it could be an absolutely epic send off for Dan.

    re: CGI prairie dogs....We've already had a CGI mouse in SPECTRE. And both Skyfall and SPECTRE had a lot of CGI. The genie is out of that particular bottle.

    Spielberg was a genius. Was. Now he is just another director aiming at big things in the Autumn of his career but fails repeatedly.

    I'm not sure what to think about this comment from Spielberg, while he's directed 2 of my very favourite films of all time I find his output hasn't set me on fire since Munich.

    That being said a chance for him to get a go at Bond isn't something I wouldn't mind seeing.

    Let me get this straight they couldn't afford him right? Is he afraid that just for the chance to add to the series one that he's a big fan that if he took a huge discount or even he worked for free that would have a bad effect on his career.

    Seriously this man is a multi millionaire it's not like he's Mike Leigh who I'm sure is comfortable but not swimming in money unlike Spielberg who is worth millions but because of his status he couldn't work to scale or free allowing him to add to the legacy of James Bond?

    It strikes me as hugely greedy to expect EON to pay what he'd cost, if Spielberg is that keen on Bond surely he could do it just for sheer thrill and then do a deal that he takes a percentage of the gross if he's that bothered of his millions taking a dent because he didn't get his usual fee.

    Maybe I just don't understand the business but hey haven't you got enough money Stevie?

    Is he afraid that others would expect him to do it again? If he came out and said yeah I'm doing this as a one off and order for it to happen I'm not getting paid. This would work as great publicity for the film and people would think what a great guy SS is for doing this for the fans and the film world. Hell the film would easily do a billion on the back of such a combination and he could then take a cut of the profits if he needed to be so desperately paid for his time.

    Craig I'm sure is a great friend of Spielberg and would sign off with the Beard on a Bond film with the pace of Raiders and the intrigue of Munich, sound too good to ever happen.
